I really doubt it was Merrill.  My reasoning behind it is that not only did it not sound like Merrill, it makes very little sense plot-wise for her to show up at Skyhold.  Plus: why are people grasping at straws and freaking out when they think they see Merrill?  I really want Bethany to show up in DA:I, but I'm not grasping at straws.

 

Anyway, it makes little sense plot-wise for Merrill to show up in Skyhold because 1) she is romanceable and can end up travelling with Hawke post-DA2, according to Varric, and 2) she's more interested in the eluvians, so she'd more likely be encountered in some ancient elven ruins.  Also, I highly doubt she'd refer to Hawke as 'the Champion' since they knew each other for nearly 10 years.

 

I'm opting a 'wait and see' policy on character appearances.  If Merrill show up in DA:I, great.  If not, oh well.

I will admit that a lot of my enthusiasm stems from wishful thinking. I really like Merrill, and I'd love to see her again.

 

All the same, I remember reading somewhere that Hawke wouldn't (necessarily) be showing up with their LI, so it's not impossible that they managed to get separated somehow.

 

As for the way she talked, beyond the accents, it sounded to me like she was talking to somebody she didn't know all that well. Hawke isn't widely known of as "Hawke", but "the Champion". It makes more sense for Merrill to be rather impersonal so that she can get the message across more easily, imo.

 

It just seems like an strangely big coincidence that someone who looks so much like Merrill is talking about the Champion, as if she were at least somewhat familiar with them. It could just be some other elf, but Merrill had a pretty unique style.

tbh, I think that Merrill is a bit too socially awkward to think about that.  She'd still try to refer to Hawke as "Hawke" instead of "the Champion".  Besides, I'm 80% sure that she'd be running around in her Act III outfit instead of her Act I & II gear.  I like her Act III gear the best, anyway.

 

Like I said, we're more likely to encounter her in some ancient elven ruins.  As for where she'll be with Hawke if romanced... I'm not sure.  It's up in the air, like it is with Fenris (who probably won't be in DA:I at all), Isabela, and Anders.

I've seen her end up with her Act III gear without romancing her several times.

 

But yeah, I'm still sticking with my 'wait and see' policy.  Probably going to go on a media blackout after DA:I launches just so I don't get spoiled on whether or not Bethany shows up.

Maybe it's a glitch?  Or maybe it's a problem with the flag for completing her Act III quest?  Meh, I'm not an expert on this kind of stuff, so idk.

I'd die to see a kid with Merrills shyness and Sarcastic Hawkes personality LOL XD

I'd really like to see Merrill again, too, particularly as it would allow her story arc to actually have some meaning, as opposed to stopping dead in the water and becoming pointless by Act III. I really enjoyed her; Merrill is a great character. Smart, dedicated to ending the plight of the People, refuses to back down about her cultural and religious beliefs when Anders tries to pressure her that the Chantry version of Spirits and Demons is correct, and she has dry humor that often goes over every shemlen's head.

 

Ah, if only she was a romance option for an elven Inquisitor...

I was reminded of this while reading a different thread, but I figured I'd ask about it here... was that Merrill or not?  I haven't heard anything about her on the DA:I forums... is she in the game at all?

No, she's not in-game at all.  A lot of elves just wear the same outfit as her (it's also the design for the Dalish Scout Armor for rogues).  Since my first world-state had Merrill romanced and she still didn't show up, I'm pretty sure that the only one other than Hawke and Varric that shows up in DA:I from DA2 is Stroud, and that's only if Alistair/Loghain isn't a Warden in your world-state.
