All I can think of when reading "“'I will bring myself sexual pleasure later, while thinking about this with great respect'" is "All your base are belong to us." It's the first thing that popped into my mind and I don't know why.

I will admit I laughed at the line this morning. It's certainly something of a line.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking this.  I haven't heard so many embarrassed giggles since my grade 7 Sex Ed class :P

Seriously, if I accidentally walked in on a roommate in real life using those lines as pillow talk with their significant other, or on a roommate decapitating someone, I know which one of those would shock me more.

In a way it's not all that surprising. In US lot of people have guns and shootings are not that uncommon there. In Europe we have Femen group and their activists show boobs everywhere.

You can't even compare real life violence - where someone actually gets hurt or even killed - to video game violence.

It all depends. Two drunks scrapping outside of a bar over a girl is one thing. Child-soldiers from certain parts of Africa gunning down a village is another.

Yet something acceptable in real life is somehow frowned upon in video games (doesnt really make sense imo).

I just think it's silly to say "I'd be way more shocked to walk in on my roommate decapitating someone".
Yeah, well so would about 99.9% percent of the population. But why does that mean they're not allowed to be embarrassed or disquieted by sexual activity?

The 'thinking about this with great respect' could also easily be a voice acting que.  Often when dialogue is in front of a voice actor the writers also add a line or two for how they want the voice actor to speak the line.   Perhaps the people viewing dialogue mistook some of these intent prompts to be actual dialogue.

Wouldn't they just immediately re-record it? The voice director or someone from the company sits in on their voice takes.

Also, the scene directions are clearly marked in the script and look totally different to the spoken dialogue. In the sample scenes they gave for the voice acting competition, the [sadly], [with anger] directions were on the opposite side of the page.

Also, no voice actor is stupid enough to read the prompts as part of their spoken line.

Yeah, they sound like pretty normal dirty talk to me too. That's kind of the whole point of dirty talk - to be dirty.

Anyway, we're missing context to both lines. As some previous posters speculate, the "great respect" line might not even be sexual, or might be deployed in an unusual situation. And the bouncing line could be something like

"I love your smile... your sense of humor... your ability to handle new situations... the way your **** bounce when I pin your arms behind you and take you on the side of the bed..."

i.e. the "oh no I'm being too mushy, better slip in something silly so I'm not overcome with emotion" strategy.

Nah, you're right. I was just making a point. Violence isn't some absolute horror. Violence can be something as simple as me breaking up two dogs from fighting.

Fairly tame actually, if this is the worst they've got in a 150+ hour game.

Likewise.

Dat Ancient Rock Wraith on Nightmare...

But I don't think anything will beat that time I fought Arkham's second form in Devil May Cry 3 HD on Dante Must Die difficulty. I think my friends were actually frightened. I'm usually so calm and placid.

Lazarevic in U2:AT was my worst moment.  Poor cats were afraid to come near me until I beat that part.

You're right, there are different degrees of violence. But I'm the type to get light-headed at a nosebleed or a particularly nasty papercut, so even more 'mild' violence gets me antsy.

If someone feels unsettled, embarrassed etc. around sexual situations then perhaps they shouldn't partake in the more graphic optional romances.

I agree with this on principle, however in this particular instance we have no idea if those lines are optional or not.  We have no context.

For my part, I am most likely going to skip past the sex scenes, at least partly because I don't know when nudity is going to happen, and I don't want to get banned from Twitch as I will be streaming my playthroughs XD

Would showing pixelated nudity really get you banned?

That's certainly a valid option for them. But what I take umbridge at is the idea that if you have no issue with completely fictional violence where nobody gets hurt and there are no lasting consequences, you should automatically also have no issue with sexual content. Those two are not tied together - you can like sexual content whilst disliking violent content, and vice versa.

But why is the representation of violence less shocking than the representation of sex...?  They're both representations in this case.  The shock comes from identifying one with a real-life experience, but somehow the other is not.

It's hardly the first time BioWare's gotten into trouble for its portrayal of sex.  The first thing I ever heard about a BioWare game was that "Mass Effect was a sex simulator," and that was something that had wormed its way into the mainstream media.  When my friends got me into Mass Effect, the things that series did that shocked me was all the body horror involving the things reapers did to their victims.  The sex scenes in Mass Effect were tastefully done, and I didn't understand what had shocked people.

Dragon Age's were a little clumsy, but that was more of an uncanny valley thing.  And what disturbed me in Dragon Age were the Broodmothers.  Pure violence.  interestingly, the mainstream media had nothing to say about either that or the husks from Mass Effect.

I mean... really? Streaming extremely brutal games, horror games, disgusting graphical violence is fine there, but nudity can get you banned?

Neither did I. Actually I consider Mass Effect 1 scene (maybe not the dialogue before/after though) to be one of the better done sex scene in a game that I have seen (with elven ruins Geralt-Triss scene from Witcher 2 probably being the best). Scenes in Dragon Age on the contrary were all poorly done (in both games). I really hope that this time they've taken some hints from their collegues from Mass Effect department, and didn't just remove clothes and did everything the same.

So I don't mind sharing now that they have released this information that I have a friend who works at ESRB and she confirmed to me that both Sera and a female elf Inquisitor were topless in Sera's romance as well as a shot of Dorian nude from behind in the romance scene of his that she saw.  She also saw a scene of Iron Bull and a male dwarf and said that that scene started romantic and ended up humorous with no nudity from either character.

Me likey

Humorous romance is the best romance
