Wouldn't let them play a Lego game? I don't even...

EDIT: My parents were pretty strict until I turned 13, then they pretty much gave up. One of my aunts, mother of a cousin ten years younger than me, keeps asking for my advice on what video games are appropriate for him. I don't think she's even aware of the rating system.

SpongeBob is also not allowed in the house either so yeah I don't know what their standards are for being okay and not being okay. I'm guessing no violence ever not even cartoon unless its Kirby then that's okay. *shrugs* My mom was reasonable about stuff like that but when I moved to my aunts and grandmothers it went from everything being NO to 'Sure whatever go away now' *shrugs*

Eh, some parents are strict, some are not, and some (my mother included) relax as they have more children.  By the time #6 7 and 8 came around my siblings were able to play with legos made in the shape of battleships and tanks, whereas I was strictly forbidden such things XD

My mother only had me at the time this parent had two or three kids I think three with two younger ones still living with them.  Course they banded some odd things from the house the only games their kids had was wii sports and Kirby. I still question why Legos was a no though. ME, DA, Fable? I get those. Legos? Not so much

I don't know if this has been suggested before, but the first line sort of reminds me of a line made by Wash in the show Firefly (which like this first line, sounds very bizarre when taken out of context):

It was something like this (remembering off the top of my head) "Were I unwed, I would take you in a manly fashion."

It sounds awkward here, but in the context of the scene it's lighthearted and amusing. I'm thinking/hoping that first line from the rating is couched in a similar way in DA:I.

The second line... Maybe it's all in how its said and the context. Reading it at face value is just kinda... eh... for me. XD

You mean that buying a game as a present for an adult guy/gal someone would hesitate because of the quote about bouncing ******? In the era when pop stars sing whole songs about their asses?

Yes exactly.  You may not be aware of how people totally unaware of content and not familiar with genre will react.  I know nothing about knitting books so I might be affected by a strange report or review of a certain knitting book.  All some parents or significant others know is that person A likes video games so I'll get them a game.  See this kind of thing and it's on to the next product.  It's not about right or wrong or how things should be viewed, it's about reality.

Prudish asexual European.

But seriously, don't judge if we don't have the context yet.

I'm so sorry for saying a line about "bouncing t*ts" feels awkward and makes me, personally, uncomfortable. You're right, I'm such a judgmental prude  :(

That language is clearly taken out of context. It's comical how ESRB phrased it, as most of their descriptions of mature games are generally humorous. It does appear that there will be actual female nudity based on the "nudity" designation, of which BioWare has only historically received "partial nudity," and the fact "depicted topless" generally means you see breasts and nipples. Mass Effect 1 and 3 used the term "brief" when breasts or buttocks were partially exposed on the screen. That's really surprising coming from BioWare as they have generally been rather conservative when it comes to nudity. I'd expect Rockstar, CD Projekt Red, or a few others to really push the boundaries in terms of romance scenes or nudity.

They got a brand new engine that is amazing, they probably felt now would be  a good time to test the water, as it were, and show some small nude cutscenes. It appears to be limited to breasts and butts and is probably very brief (10 sec max at a guess). If they don't get flak for it I'd expect more of this in the future. Let's hope it goes well since none of their recent games apart from ME1 handled sex scenes well at all.

Actually it just says buttocks, but it doesn't specify male or female. I'd be surprised if there weren't male butts if there are female breasts, but it isn't confirmed yet.

To be honest if I was BioWare I wouldn't be all that amused at this turn of events, not only from the writing point of view but from the perception point of view.  Just because regular game players can make light of it doesn't mean that some people looking to buy a Christmas present or something will not be turned off by this.  Not the rating itself but how it has been stated.

If there is an inaccuracy or something taken out of context BioWare/Ea should come out quickly with a clarification.

I wouldn't be too worried about it. Someone in that buying situation will be looking at the box, which only has the ratings, not the summary.

I can say that a friend of mine who has seen romance footage has confirmed male buttocks and female breasts.  She only saw three "sex scenes", but I think it's safe to say that these are probably what we should expect from the other scenes as well.  I'd be surprised if there were any other nudity (except maybe female buttocks).

That makes sense. I think people will have to wait a longer time before BioWare is comfortable with depicting the male genitalia, as Rockstar does in GTA.

It's likely because of Frostbite 3 as well as the fact that nudity and sex scenes have become much more prevalent and acceptable in video games as of late. The Witcher 2 is probably the crowning example of a game, albeit controversial to some, that handled sex scenes really professionally. I wouldn't be surprised if BioWare took some cues from CDPR, as BioWare's romance scenes in ME2, ME3, and especially DA2 were beyond horrible. It was painful and awkward just to watch.

Bioware isn't showing any genitalia. It's not just male parts they are not showing.

Nothing should want to emulate that...franchise.

They aren't showing genitalia yet. Not that I necessarily believe they will, as GTA always depicted male genitalia for comical reasons. Who knows though? They are showing everything else except for the crotch region of males and females. I don't personally believe it's necessary as games like The Witcher 2 leave more than enough for the imagination of what is supposedly happening.

When it comes to the financial success that GTA is, I'm sure many studios and publishers would disagree lol. That being said, BioWare makes much more serious games than Rockstar generally, so that likely won't be something that comes up.
