I have to say, I find this comic to be amazingly accurate right now.  This = how many people on BSN have reacted to the ESRB blurb. (That being said, this post is not intended to provoke/ridicule anyone's feelings.  I just find the comic funny.  And relevant.)

EDIT: Give me a break people, and grow a sense of humor.  I love my country.  I also love my little brother.  I make fun of both of them.  IMO, the comic is funny.  You don't think so, fine.  But no need to get your thongs in a twist.

The summaries are often funny, and almost certainly deliberately so.  For example Mass Effect 2 says

 

"clothed alien/human characters may prop a partner on top of a space console, clear away the clutter from a bed-slab, unzip a future-blouse, or just talk it out. Though an alien/human may gyrate her hips while on top (fleeting—one-to-two seconds), actual sex is never depicted—the camera cuts away to space furniture and ceilings."

About as accurate as any other over-exaggerated stereotype? This reminds me of the time when Mass Effect was released in the States and Fox News proclaimed it featured full-frontal nudity... Honestly, not as many Americans make as big of a deal about nudity as the internet or the media would have you believe. It's about as accurate as all people in France have bad hygiene, or all Russians are addicted to vodka.

 

If it's of any consolation, Rockstar is a US developer, and they are the only AAA studio who will actually feature the male genitalia in their games. I haven't seen that from even the Japanese.

 

Either way, if America was really so nudity-averse, most of these games would either be heavily censored or never even have nudity to start.

OK, I have just spent the past 10 minutes or so looking up other games M ratings descriptions on the ESRB website.  Gotta say, in that context...they are all pretty hilarious. Mass effect 2's is my favorite so far, but the Witcher series has some great ones too.

 

Ahh...good times.  I iwll think about all of this later with great respect.

I understood the "joke" as you were poking fun at the folks on BSN. I just find this "joke" to be "beating a dead horse," if you will. No need to apologize. Every nationality has its "questionable" folks.

Kotaku really is the worst video game reporter on the internet. I have never once found an article or a review of a game to have substance or a reasonable explanation. It's all ignorance, bias, fanboyism, and constant trolling. I'd probably place Game Informer right after them, as half their articles are generally ridiculous as well.

I'm really going to be surprised if any of the main characters use any of those lines provided by the ESRB. It's either purely for comedic value or it was a random conversation happening between NPCs in a brothel somewhere or out in the world. Unless BioWare is just intentionally poking fun at their terrible romance scenes these past seven years...

ESRB doesn't actually play the game, it would take far too long to explore all the permutations. The developer sends them what amounts to a "highlights reel" to watch and rate. It's in the developer's interest to include the most (potentially) offensive stuff, because the ratings board will take notice if they get complaints about stuff that wasn't accounted for.

For all we know, the sample lines could appear for only 1% of players. They represent the most extreme stuff that exists in the game, not necessarily what an average player is likely to encounter.

Now I want to work for the ESRB.
