Finally we can have a party consisting of all mages (including PC). Previously, there have always been only the max of 2 mages (Morrigan and Wynne, Anders and Velanna, Anders and Merril).

In DAO, it is ok to create an all warrior party (Alistair, Sten, and Orghen with PC as Warrior). In DA2, it is ok to create an all rouge party (Varric, Isabella and Sebastian with PC as Rouge). Finally, in DAI, it is possible to create an all Mage, Warrior or Rouge Party because there are 3 of them each. Maybe we can even get some achievements for them.

Yeah to my all mages party though i will be extremely unwelcome of the Olaris power-hungry fake noble.

I think its going to be amazing fun to run an all Mage party.

Step 1. All mages have access to ice/fire Wall. Trap bad guys in 4 walled slaughter pen

Step 2. All mages have access to area effect nuke. Drop nukes into slaughter pen until manu runs out.

Step 3. Profit.

I will definitely be trying out an all Mage party whenever I can, probably in exploration of new areas/Fade Rift banishing mode. I wouldn't want to dungeon crawl without a Rogue for treasure chests or a Warrior to bash in secret walls, but I love the idea of rolling around destroying rifts with an all mage team. Everyone will try to pick up extra Barriers/Dispels since those spells should be availabile as much as possible and also any passives that seem too good to be true (I'm looking at you, Storm Tree). My ideas on the all mage party so far:

My Elven Inferno/Necromancer: I'll have to wait to see details on the Necromancer spells but I'm pretty set on mastering the inferno tree. Seems like a lot of fun! I'll try to craft gear that increases Critical chance to make the most of the Flashpoint as well as using barriers for Chaotic Focus bonus. He'll be a debuff mage mixed with raw DPS/Fear inducer. He'll stay back to make use of the racial bonus of 25% extra ranged defence and hopefully be able to kill anything before it gets too close.

Vivienne as a Knight Enchanter/Spirit Mage: She would put extra points into other tree's passives, hopefully Ice Armor if I can manage it. Otherwise she plays as the party Cleric. Keepin up barriers, mindblasts, and using her Knight Enchanter abilities as best she can. Can't wait to phase into something then explode! She will get crafted gear to increase HP so she can always phase away and cast revival/resurgance in emergencies.

Solas will be a Storm/Rift Mage: I'm lovin the lightning passives and hope the Rift Mage tree is as badass as it sounds. He'll be a Nuker/Paralyzer. His gear will be focused on giving him as much MP as possible (hopefully MP regen) since all the  storm passives synergize with casting as much as possible.

Dorian will be the Winter/Necromancer: He will compliment my Inquisitor (possibly romance). I can never have enough Walking Bomb in my life and hope that we can use strategic Walls/Mines to coral the enemies into Solas' stun traps so we can launch AOEs on them. He will focus on freezing high profile targets and backup barrier boy. Crafted gear will probably go towards MP in someway, similar to Solas.

The only problem I have is I don't know exaclty how the Eldritch Detonators will work with an all mage party but I'm sure frozen/paralyzed/fear targets would count as "incapacitated".

I plan on doing this too but we're defiantly going to be stonewalled quite often. If you run into anything that's locked or something that requires another class to activate expect to do plenty of backtracking. :(

I plan on doing (or at least, at some point in my game) a all-party of everything.

The all mage party will be gloriously sated with walls, glyphs and area nukes. Not to mention barrier spam. It will be glorious and colourful to watch.

The all-rogue party will consist of 4 archers. Basically, it will be like D-day for the poor enemies. Full-on machine gun fire.

All-warrior party. 4 tanks. There'll be so much taunting on the battlefield it makes jerry springer shows sound like a disney musical.

Don't think there will be any bits where you must have a certain class to progress the mission (unless advised in a briefing) but it will be likely that you will miss out on loot or a shortcut perhaps.

I fear a mage only party will be breakfast for Highdragons. At least Morrigan or Wynne are onehit if they get catched by a dragon.

You got this al worked out for the most part.... I feel that you do require at least a good Tank in a party to aggro the crap out of enemies so you don't get picked off from a distance or get your spells deflected by a shield character. Not to mention a stealthed rogue.... those guys could tear a mage apart with their high DPS and crits....

I would get rid of Solas (this is only hypothetical) and throw in Blackwall or Cassandra and let them soak up the damage as I cast some crazy spells from a distance!

Against mooks, an all mage party will probably be able to do some amazing damage. But, as always, an army of glass cannons don't stand much chance against bigger things, like bosses or dragons.

* shrugs *  Still no options for all-elf or all-dwarf parties.  For elves, we only got Zevran in DA:O and Velanna in Awakening.  Got Fenris and Merrill in DA2 and now we have Solas and Sera in DA:I.  For dwarves, we only got Oghren in DA:O, and we got him again along with Sigrun in Awakening.  Only got Varric in DA2 and we still have him in DA:I.

Hopefully we'll get at least 3 elf and dwarf companions in DA4.  As for Qunari, we've only had Sten in DA:O and now IB in DA:I.  It's going to be a while before we get more Qunari companions...

Agreed, I don't think you should be able to do the whole game without mixed class parties, but I think for for certain missions it should be viable.

"Viable" is not "optimal" by any means of course :) Any monoclass party is going to need more attention and different strategies, and certainly, a mixed party is going to give you the  flexibility to tackle most situations, but I confess to a certain tightening in my trousers when I think of a full party of Warriors or Mages.

You just didn't level them properly. My 3 mage + Leliana (as agility dual wielding rogue) party steamrolled everything on nightmare in DAO.

Hmm didn't know Solas was a mage.  All mage party sounds very powerfull...and very weak depending on who controls it (by that I mean it will requre(imo) alot of micromanaging for all except mooks).

...tho that may not be correct - do we know if Knight enchanter have a way to generate enmity (threat) fast? He/she will be strong enought to tank otherwise.

I agree with the rest of your post, but dsagree with that.

Not all of us choose the paty based on companion abilities. I, for example, usually tell Fenris to get the hell from me when I first meet him. I know it's bad RP, but I just like Merrill too much to party her with that...thing :D

Now inquisition may ('may' mind you) introduce a way to make party banter more interactive (which will fix this problem in my opinion), but stll....who knows:)

Still have yet to have a straight female elf LI, too.  We had Zevran who was bi in DA:O, Merrill and Fenris who were bi in DA2 (and we were restricted to playing as a human), and now Sera who is les and Solas who is straight in DA:I.  Straight male elf PC's get no luck with the elven ladies.

Maybe we'll get a bi female dwarf Grey Warden or straight female elf companion in DA4?  We've only had male human Grey Warden companions so far (excluding Awakening), so having a non-human female Warden would be a nice change.

Still have yet to see a female Qunari in-game, though.  As a non-PC character, I mean.

Well I said mixed, that doesn't necessarily mean one of each, just not all of one :)

Also, Fenris isn't a class! If you are a warrior you don't need another warrior, so Fenris is out. If you are not a warrior you have Avelline who is amazing, or (nggggg) Carver. Altenatively, tanking with Issy and/or Merril is perfectly doable. However combat is much more efficient if you are able to pull of ccc's and for that you need... different classes.

Not bad RP if your char doesn't like Fenris. I admit I find it hard to keep the mopey emo sod around myself. I'm struggling through a DA2 PT which him as the LI at the moment, just because I haven't done it yet. Not easy.

Don't worry. Mages seem to be so "nerfed" in comparison to Origins that it will be no different than running a party of 4 rogues or 4 warriors in terms of a challenge.

When in doubt - barrier spam and ravage your mouse for autoattacks like a true hack&slash baws.
