Don't worry. Mages seem to be so "nerfed" in comparison to Origins that it will be no different than running a party of 4 rogues or 4 warriors in terms of a challenge.

When in doubt - barrier spam and ravage your mouse for autoattacks like a true hack&slash baws.

What are these nerfs of which you speak?

Watch what mages could do in DAO, Awakening and DA2 then look at gameplay videos of mages in Inquisiton.

If you wont be able to see it, repeat untill it comes to you.

Have fun.

Ah I see, you mean bring their power level in line with other party members.

Yes nerfed then. Good job too.

Makes absolutely no sense lore-wise. Unless Dragon Age is an MMO with PvP.

Other than making players who prefer to play Warriors and Rogues feel like their job wasn't just to keep the mage alive.

Mages should be overpowered. They're mages.

Warriors and rogues also use magic in this game, so an All Mages party is unavoidable.

Rogues were very powerful in DA:O, an agility rogue build was in top 2 with the arcane warrior. Then both warriors and rogues on par with mages in Awakening. I would've preferred making all three classes powerful instead of gimping mages but that's me.

Agree with you about the principle of making all classes broadly comparable in terms of combat power. But if one class is hugely powerful then bringing the others up to that level rather than levelling up or down to the approximate median would have been ... a bit over the top from a gameplay perspective imo.

Honestly though, I don't really care enough to argue the point so I'll concede and bow out. Too much huffing and puffing around here without me joining in about something I'm ambivalent about at best.

I thought about using an all mage party on my 1st playthrough but I don't want to miss any hidden areas so I'll be using dorian, varric, and iron bull.

I hope they allow warriors to bash locked chests (maybe with chance to destroy all or just some loot), so mages can bash walls/doors/whatever with spells. Just doesn't make sense for them to not be able to. Especially considering our char (maybe from the adventures in the fade) should be very powerfull from the begining - he/she will be equal (or even more powefull?) to such characters as Cassandra/Varric (which in terms of d&d are epc chars :D ).

As for gameplay power level equal to lore - I very much doubt that there will come such a game in the near future. Apart from pen and paper (and maybe there too - not sure....have never played one) that will require too much changes just for somewhat small chance you will be the class. Maybe if the game is all about a mage...

What they've done is created class-specific obstacles for all the classes. So inly Rogues can pick locks, but only Warriors can bash doors, and only mages can open portals (or something).

There will be stuff you miss if you don't have a Rogue, and stuff you miss if you don't have a Warrior, and stuff you miss if you don't have a Mage.

Don't worry. With the exception of Vivienne, all mages will have to be ranged staff-wielding morons who'll probably die in one hit if you decide to go all mages this time.

Is the title saying:

All mages are capable party-goers?
All mages should celebrate?
Someone is hosting a party exclusively for mages?

Spam barriers all day B)

Edit: I plan on having each class in my party, but seem like a fun challenge.

I think its going to be amazing fun to run an all Mage party.
Step 1. All mages have access to ice/fire Wall. Trap bad guys in 4 walled slaughter pen

Step 2. All mages have access to area effect nuke. Drop nukes into slaughter pen until manu runs out.

Step 3. Profit.

Glorious.

I usually try to have one of each class in my party.

It was so satisfying in DA2 where my PC was a Rogue archer and Fenris, Anders, and Isabela were in a party.

but an all mage party sounds really fun  :P

I love the lore comments.

You should be able to lose your mage permanently to possession "Lore-wise" too... but I don't see people whining about that.

I plan on doing this too but we're defiantly going to be stonewalled quite often. If you run into anything that's locked or something that requires another class to activate expect to do plenty of backtracking. :(

it's annoying enough to have to take a lock picker, now grunts too?

In lore mages are overpowered, however and there are a few big differences that player mages NEVER have to deal with.

1.) becoming possessed and becoming an abomination: players rightfully as mages don't have to worry about potentially becoming an abomination and then dying. It wouldn't be that fun.

2.) Lyrium addicition. mages, as well as templars have the very likely chance of becoming addicted to Lyrium that they use for their abilities. This was actually considered IIRC back in origins but was not implemented as it wouldn't be fun.

Because of this mages are not as powerful as they would be in lore, that isn't to say their aren't powerful, they are.

Besides an all mage party would not have the non-mages banter :P Though with knight-enchanter I suspect it would be easier to have an all mage party if you spec right.

In DA2, less so in DAO, I wanted to disarm every single trap in game for exp, same goes for lockpicking. Luckily in DA2 I liked the duo Aveline and Isabela so much that I took them almost everywhere with me. However before I discovered Aveline and Isabela dynamic I felt forced to take a rogue with me every time. It pissed me off.

Inquisiton seems to force players to take one of each class through both combat and exploration design decisions. I am already annoyed, because if I want to take all rogues, mages or warriors to discover the banter amoung them while doing side quests I will need to backtrack if I find something one class specific.

Well that's the concession. These things like lockpicks, mystical keys or walls for WARRIOR SMASH are there to give each class some non-combat activity that gives them added value. From a gameplay perspective I think this is the right approach, but accept that this means if I do choose a monoclass party there will be stuff I'll miss out on. The real question is how much stuff that will be.

I'm comfortable with missing out on loot. I'm not comfortable with having plot advancement blocked because of my class choices, unless that was telegraphed well in advance of party selection screen.
