I'm in CH2 and I visited adventure guild. My companions are bard moon elf, swashbuckler yuan ti and paladin3/favored soul7. I need a offensive caster! My bard has want of fire (50 fireballs) and few other spells, but she can't scribe them.

Could you tell me more how adventure guild leveling goes?

Each Instructor has a "feat" and often an "improved feat" to offer you.

The feats add a small bit of experience but more often add an "advantage" be it in combat / resting / game play. You usually have to "visit a site" that opens in the campaign map to "learn" the advantages of the feat.

There are usually pre-requisites for a feat. i.e. Each PC in the party must have at least one rank in Survival skill ; or each PC in the party must have weapon finesse. These are just a couple of examples. The Instructor provides you the details when you speak to them.

Obviously with the "prototype D & D party" (mage/thief/cleric/fighter) you cannot achieve all these party bonuses. You will have to select from a few as it is unlikely your Paladin Favored soul is a weapon finesse build .... just as an off the cuff observation.

The feats are not game changers but do in fact add an edge in playability.

I doubt you can farm the experience point bonus of all the feats but I could be wrong.

Aren't henchmen adjusted to your current level when you recruit them?

Thanks for help, but I will be able to pay for leveling to reach my previous levels?

No. Finch, Soraevora, and others are not.

Well, if in the end you don't manage to level them legally, you can always do so with the console. It's technically cheating, I guess, but every other module out there auto-levels companions so they're on par with the main character...

I suggest the warlock companion as one of the casters you're looking for. Warlocks are great in SOZ.

I though adventure guild offers to give me a experience to level my characters? Thanks for suggesting warlocks, I will definitely give warlocks a try.

I think Ark is correct in both counts above.

I don't know of any leveling mechanisms in SoZ with the exception of start of the module on ship - even though I played it a few times.

Warlock is a great class for SoZ.

Wait, wait, are you telling me The Adventure Guild can't give me experience to advance new level?

I was reading gamebanshee page for nwn2 soz and here it says: http://www.gamebansh...thenextstep.php

You'll also be able to talk to Daerred and have him advance companions to the experience level of your main character (at a cost of 1gp for each xp).

Does this mean cohorts instead companions?

One NPC in the Adventurers' Guild does offer to level up companions (cohorts for sure, maybe player-made companions, too) to match the main PC's level for a fee.  It's intentional design that the cohorts do not gain XP while not in your party.  I like this, because it made it a challenge when I went back mid-game and rescued the gnome wizard and brought her into the party, because she was very low level compared to the average party level.  I chose not to use the Adventurers' Guild service to level her up, and just gave her some wands and good equipment and did my best to protect her.  It's possible that no one in my party was the same level as any of the others.

Regarding prerequisites for group feats:

If any of your party members lack the prerequisite feats or skill levels you can remove them from the party, gain the group feat with the remaining party members, then add them back to the party afterward. Cohorts can be dismissed as usual, but you can also export any of the player-created party members (except for the party leader), remove them from the party, and add them back from the exported blueprint later.

You could conceivably remove the entire party except for the first PC, purchase any feat that the first PC has the prerequisites for, then add everyone else back in and complete the necessary quest.

If I recall correctly, I think I did a test on dismissing a player-created companion without exporting her, then adding her back into the party from her original blueprint, and she still had all of the items and XP she'd gotten before I dismissed her.  I can't be sure of this, because I didn't write any notes about it.

I done little test - I can create new character, but I can only level him/her up to level 9. I noticed when I export my old character and quickly bring her back, he has all equipment and experience, but if I bring her back after some time, she stays at level 9. I don't know if she has same equiment, seems she has.

Is there any way to solve this without "cheating"? I don't want to use console to give experience, I just want everything to work as planned.

EDIT: I'm level 11.

Forget this, she should be level 9 because she's yuanti.

But still, all my newly created characters stays at level 9

Does companion level has anything to do with henchmen level?

When I referred to the warlock "companion", I meant the "henchman"/"cohort". That half-elf you can recruit in some village.

Of course, a player-create one is fine too, but I thought you were looking for henchmen.

It's OK.

Another question - do you get penalties when you create new character midgame? And what that penalty is?

Probably the game only levels you up to 9 because it expects you'd only be creating a new character at the start of the game.  If you want to create a new character of a different level, I'd recommend using a character creating/leveling module like Vordan's Hero Creator, which lets you pick your level and outfit yourself with equipment.  It's not ideal since it doesn't give the recommended amount of gold for your level as described in the DMG, but you can tell it to remove all gold after you've bought appropriate equipment.  Then export the character and it's ready to import into your SoZ party.

Well, something similar my brother's friend told me, he just added that I'm experiencing penalty. He didn't told me what penalty is.

Ah, he might have meant the level penalty for ECL races.  You said one of your characters is yuan-ti, which is an ECL race.

But why is my new human character level 9, while my party leader wood elf is level 11?

Have your new character talk to Daerred.  He should be given the option to train up to your PC's level.

Also, you don't have to export your characters to drop them off.  Just change your active roster at any of the signin books (inns, headquarters).  Feel free to insult the stupid book - everyone does.  If you do export, your exported character will get a new name on the roster (Schmo will export as Schmo1, etc.)

You can get lost if you mix the dropping off method with the export/import method ("Shmo, Schmo1 , Schmo2, Schmo3 -   aaargh, which Schmo is the right schmo?"), so I find it's better not to use the exporting at all (unless you want to use the character in some other module).

He doesn't give me option to level up my companion. He do gives me option to level up henchmen, thou.

How do you mean insult the book? How could you insult a book?

When you click on the book, it says something like "do you want to dismiss your henchmen and rearrange your roster?"  One of your options is to say "this is really stupid" or something.  [The feeling expressed is the same one I get here when I post a message and have to reload the page for the Edit button to show up]

As for not being allowed to catch up your XP - it's a puzzler.  I've had that happen sometimes and not happen others.  Maybe you can't go above the experience of your weakest link or something.  Or maybe I have a mod...

Oh, that's only when you have henchmen and try to change your companions you have from the beginning.
