Not sure where exactly to post this. I don't need specific storyline help but need help with spellbook and abilities. I have never played a spellcaster in this game and only stuck with martial builds or rogue/monk builds.

I am starting a new original campaign using this character build:

http://nwn2.wikia.co...Pal(4)_or_BG(4)

with the evil alignment. I haven't played a divine spellcaster since the mid 90's in a pen and paper campaign. I could use help picking which spells would be the most beneficial and which skills are the most useful. I know you need five points in Hide to qualify for Blackguard but what about the other points and skills? What are the "can't miss" besides the Concentration and Spellcraft? I would assume Diplomacy or Intimidate but what about Crafting skills?

Appreciate any advice in advance.

Go for Favored Soul/Stormlord/Blackguard. You don't need Fighter levels, because depending on your race, you will get a multiclass xp penalty.
Also the Paladin/Blackguard is not possible unless you make him fallen.

In general, a Favored Soul/Stormlord/Blackguard is far better than Paladin because you get more and better spells, sooner.
If you pick a deity with the spear, you get Weapon Focus with it for free.

A good example is Talos, the Storm Lord. ;) Which fits perfectly per lore and gameplay wise.

Spellcraft is actually not that necessary unless you want to get epic spells which aren't needed. In the expansion you get a bunch of casters which they can handle the epic spells for you.

So, Concentration, Diplomacy for the OC if you want to but if you play Evil (Blackguards must be evil and Talos need you to be CN, CE or NE) you can just kill everybody.
If you don't like Diplomacy, go with Spellcraft and put cross class skills in Hide, not many are required.

Also, you want Power Attack, Cleave and when you get the third Blackguard you get Turn Undead which can be used for Divine Might (CHA to damage).

You don't need Wisdom at all, so leave it at 8 or 10, it doesn't matter, your saves will be great with FS and Blackguard and buffs.
You might want Monkey Grip to use a shield with your spear also but it gives you -2 to attack.

For spells, pick ONLY defensive and healing spells. Don't bother with summons or offensive spells that have Save: No in their descriptions.

You basically need things like Protection from Evil, Shield of Faith, Nightshield, Greater Magic Weapon, Magic Vestment (cast it on both armor and shield) as well as anything that protects you or makes you stronger.
Divine Power is essential, try getting the Extend Spell feat and cast it all the time. You can also pick stuff like Raise Dead/Resurrection/Heal/Regenerate/the Restoration line etc.

Basically, the Favored Soul/Stormlord/Blackguard is all about buffing and going into melee. And Blackguard gives you Heavy Armor as well so don't waste a feat on it.

Also get Practiced Spellcaster (Favored Soul) when you get the Blackguard levels so your caster level will be a bit higher. You don't need more than 3-4 levels in Blackguard. Practiced Spellcaster requires about 4 Spellcraft though.

For races, Aasimar or Humans are probably the best.

Don't bother with crafting, Sand and the other NPCs can do it for you.

I mostly agree. Don't multiclass too much with non-casting classes, even if some numbers are slightly worse in the end game, and try to get new spell levels ASAP. You don't even have to bother with blackguard; if you want epic divine might, a cleric level can take care of that and it doesn't delay your spellcasting that much, while still giving you heavy armour (though the best armour in the game is medium) and some extra feats from domains. Make sure to take blind fight, anyway.

That said, if you're looking for an offensive caster, you may want to consider a different class. Even if you adjusted a FS to be a decent one, you still wouldn't have many offensive spells in your repertoire.

A cleric with the Earth and War domains can have all the prerequisite stormlord feats at character creation (Earth domain for the Toughness feat, War domain for the Weapon Focus feat, and Great Fortitude as a chosen feat). They have to worship a deity with a stormlord-friendly favoured weapon, but there are plenty to choose from (Angarradh, Gruumsh, Hoar, Lurue, Talos, Tymora, Lliira, Mystra, etc).

I'm playing through Storm of Zehir with a halfling party at the moment, and one of them is a cleric / stormlord of Tymora who flings electrified shuriken. Zen archery, point blank shot, and rapid shot turn her into a great ranged support character. Her exotic weapon proficiency (granted by the War domain) allows her to use katanas, bastard swords, or dwarven waraxes if she's forced into melee combat.

Thanks for the help guys. :)  I have played only the OC before back when it first came out and beat it several times with various good martial or rogue builds. I wanted to try it on the evil side for once so I definitely want BG for the flavor and undead pet.

Forgot to add: I played way back in the day a FR campaign pen and paper where I was a Stormlord of Talos and it was the most fun I've had in any role playing game. Guy was a blast to play which is why I wanted a SL/BG combo that focused on melee combat which is why I am going by the listed build in the first post.

For the Blackguard, you get your Charisma modifier to your saves and prevents a multiclass penalty if you go with Aasimar for example.

Like I said, you only need 3-4 Blackguard levels. Don't bother with it's pets. As a Favored Soul you can get Create Undead and Create Greater Undead to summon vampires. The Blackguard cannot do that.

And you can also get Gate which summons a Horned Devil for extra evil flavor. In epics, you have Epic Gate which summons two Balors (the second one comes after the first one dies). Epic spells require very high Spellcraft though.

So, I would go with Aasimar Favored Soul of Talos/Blackguard/Stormlord.

You can even pull off a Favored Soul/Cleric/Stormlord/Blackguard if you're human and get the requirements much faster.

To clarify about blackguard pets: They're good by the time you get them, if you get them quickly, but that's not the case here and you only get the level 3 one, so you won't get much out of it.

Your saves will be uber with or without BG. The CHA bonus is there, but it's overkill most of the time. Just saying, not trying to convince you to ignore BG if you want it for flavour.

I'd suggest human for the faster levelling, but perhaps you can get EDM a bit earlier with aasimar. If the sooner you can get it is level 29, I wouldn't even bother.
