In the Skyhold video, we got to see a lady inquisitor mince about Skyhold and while it isn't nearly as exaggerated as f!Hawke's movements, it was still a bit disappointing.

Until I remembered my fave thing in the world is to make my big burly m!Hawkes mince around with the animation-swap mod. (May M!Hawke's hips never quit.)

Can we get a "Sway off/on" toggle somewhere?  (I don't care if this happens post launch lol) I mean, There are games that allow you to chose your walk animations in CC, so it's not like it's revolutionary either. (Can you imagine a huge m!Adaar running around like that? Hips swinging back and forth like a pendulum? I need this to happen. Who knows how long it'll take for Frostbite to be cracked.)

EDIT: When I say "toggle" here I literally mean "let us chose between the two available options" because I honestly do not expect Bioware to add in more animations. I'd just like to choose which run my Inquisitors have. Fullstop, and I know there are others who are interested in that as well.

This is not meant to shame others who walk differently than us, or walk like this in real life. The Inquisitor isn't a real person, however, and their movements are planned, choreographed, and coded by a team of developers. The Inquisitor's walk is artificial and not the result of his/her/their development as a human being. It was decided for them by a third party.

It is a response to the uncomfortable reality that, in gaming, characters who are coded "female" are often given a different set of movement animations intended to sexaulize them or heighten their sexuality. No one is saying that this has to be taken out, some of us would just like the option to NOT have a walk/run animation created for the sole purpose of making our heroine's butt wiggle while she walks. And some of us would like to see our heroes (or Inquisitors of other gender alignments) sashay around with that same animation.

That would be cool, but I doubt they'd do it. :(

I'm pretty sure the word toggle is like a buzzword for the devs now lol

It doesn't hurt to ask! If there's enough interest in it, they might deem it worthwhile.

Toggles are so old-fashioned, anyway.

What we REALLY need is a sway slider .
Adjust the amount of hip sway in your stride precisely to your liking!

Yeah, an option to choose between male and female animation sets during character creation would be particularly awesome. I would love my Qunari warrior to use the male animations, but also allows people to use female animations on their male characters should they be so inclined.

I would really love a way to have less flashy walk for my female Inquisitors. I love play tomboysh characters, and that walk style is terrible to look at, It destroy all the concept of said character.  :(

And I have a soft spot for female warriors with a rude and masculine spirit, looking at them in full armor walk like they have twelve cm of heels (expecially when they are not wearing them.  if they had at the feet shoes like Bayonetta, I would have not liked them, but at least would have made sense) would make me faceplam so hard I would have to buy new glasses every day.

Actualy, even if it's not perfect, it's a decent animation and i'm very pleased that Bioware did it. (Oh god, may be it's not perfect but it's soooo much better than Female Shep in ME3).

I doubt that the sway could be toggled off, because while you can call different animation on different part of a character, i think the key animation of the sway is an entire part of the walking and runing animation it self, not and independent "sway" animation called while walking or running.

If so, that would be lot of rework and i doubt it will be answered .

An option to swap to male animation would be better.

And while i have zero intrest in that kind of thing, i think allowing male character to choose the female walk / run animation would be a plus for people wanting to play "this kind of character".

Why can't we just have the female characters move around like normal human beings?

I mean seriously. I don't claim to be an expert on human movement but I see a lot of people walking, running and jogging around, including many women, and I have never seen anyone who wanted people to take them remotely seriously move around in such a ridiculous fashion.

Multiple reasons.

-This is hand made animation, not motion capture, so it's a lot harder to make it ultra real (same as if you ask a painter to make the picture look like a camera shot instead of painting).

-I guess they had in mind flashy lady walk and no "common woman" walk. It's the inquisitor afterall, one woman of a kind.

-hypersexualisation

IMO, this had to the character. Personnaly, i loved the sound of female Hawk's voice. The sweet voice with the rafined british accent and the flashy walk (ok, there was too much sway in DA2) helped to build this women out of the average female population.

Of course, personnal preferences matter a lot.

What's especially creepy is when the devs say that the female walk/run style is sexy.

You'd never see the male protagonist's walk/run animation being designed to be sexy to the devs.

I think they called the f!Hawke's walk a "perfect blend of sexy and strong" and it occurred to me that I've never seen a male walk animation described like that.

I think also, if you put your "female" walk/run animations on a "male" character and it looks completely ridiculous something went wrong somewhere.

This is pretty much what I meant. An option to swap between the two sets of walk/run animations. I don't expect them to make a completely new animation or anything like that.

I mean, it's going to be weird to see my Hawke again if he isn't mincing and flouncing about haha. HIS HIPS DON'T LIE~~

When people do things to draw attention to themselves, some of the attention they receive will not be positive. It is the risk people take when they do things like that.

It's her natural walk. She does not do it to draw attention.

That's a loaded statement. I walk with an odd gait because I have a neurological condition (no sashaying involved, more like bumbling). Some people don't walk certain ways for attention, they walk that way because it's the only way they can walk. I don't give two sticks if people think the way I walk is funny or attention seeking, I'm just glad I'm not stuck to a chair.

In regards to the walk animations, I'd like a toggle to be there too. If only to add some variation into the game.
