And you think people have been jerks because...?

Also lol at rewarded for behavior. I guess we should take out the romance bits and the stuff you like too because people have been jerks about every single damn thing in this game.

The fandom would improve tenfold tbh

finally an end to the romance arguments and sweat calculations

I like Lara's walk/run from the 2013 tomb raider. Female but natural, realistic, and not exaggerated or stylized. I'd like to see something like that in the next game.

We'd also lose attributes, combat, crafting and multiplayer.

so yeah agreed improvement.

Tbh I dont have anything against the female quizzi walk/run animation, what annoys me though is that if they have her walk like that, they should ad it into cut scenes as well not make it different.

What's especially creepy is when the devs say that the female walk/run style is sexy.

You'd never see the male protagonist's walk/run animation being designed to be sexy to the devs.

Altair's walk is male sexy - the shoulder swag. Scientific stuff. Ask men to walk sexy and they'll do that.

At the end of the day, whatever the motivations, some people don't like sway, there exist an animation which doesn't have it, we know for a fact that it works on the female models, allow whoever wants it to pick that one instead, there's no way that'd be hard to do, the game does it on the fly when it switches into cutscenes.

And whatever the animators' motivations (or whoever told them to do that's motivation), whether it was "women should be sexy so I'll impose my preference" or "women players want to be sexy so I'll make it so". First: not everyone thinks this is sexy, according to reactions I see on here most people actually find it ridiculous. Second: this may shock you but some women don't want to look sexy

Yeah, I got that. His last sentence had:

Second: this may shock you but some women don't want to look sexy

So, I was just wondering if he was speaking to some "you" in particular and just forgot to add a quote, or "you" in general.

Right.  Male characters are sexualized by making them appear to be strong and confident.

Would you believe me if I told you that some people find strength and confidence sexually appealing in women, too?

Of course I'd believe you. I'd hope that's the case with many men, and I fervently hope for my own sake that it will become more and more prevalent.

Unfortunately, we're not there yet. Standards of feminine and masculine beauty are based in deeply regressive gender roles, which place an emphasis on men being providers and women being sheltered, unspoiled, and young.

Both genders are caged by these assumptions, and I hope that we move past them quickly and thoroughly. All I wanted to say was that I think both genders are being sexualised in media that presents men as grizzled, competent warriors and women as swaying, feminine seductresses. I was not implying that it's healthy or natural.

The matter of what constitutes a sexualized character and what doesn't is more complicated than people seem to be making out. The majority of male characters are not really sexualized in my opinion, and being "strong and confident" does not a sexualized character make on it's own. Or even muscles, for that matter. It's about how the character is presented.

The female run animation is very definitely sexualized. It's not even physically possible in a lot of the armours, completely impractical anywhere outside a town or the keep and serves no purpose other than to fit someones definition of 'attractive'. It's not even visually appealing to me, as it looks downright clownish.

...The difference is that the developers probably aren't designing the male animations to be sexy. If they might be incidentally sexy (I would challenge you to find more than a handful of women who think that male warden/hawke/inquisitor's animations are particularly sexy), but based upon developer comments, they designed the female animations specifically to be sexy.

To me, this all comes across as designing from a straight male's perspective. The male animations are practical, the female animations are cute (footsie) and "sexy".

So don't equate the two of them. A lot of people also mention comic book's muscle bound male heroes. Once again, it is not the same because they are not designed to look sexy to the designers (who are mostly male and probably mostly straight) and the audience. They are designed that way because of the tough, strong, practical, cool and power fantasy factor.

The whole time I was playing that game I could not get over how amazingly realistically she moved. And not just because of hip sway, but other things as well, little things like putting her hand to the wall you're walking alongside to stabilize herself. It was amazing.

I find quite...sad that still the default is look at a female character as "having to be somehow sexy at all cost" :(

I truly wish there was the ability to choose between walk/run animations for our Inquisitors.  At first, when we saw the video of the lady Qunari mage gameplay, I was very happy to see her walk/run wasn't as wholly exaggerated and ridiculous as Lady Hawke.  It still wasn't to my interests and preferences, but it was a bit more tempered... and then I saw the animation on elves and human ladies and it made me cringe all over again.  I realized it was probably the more bulky mage robe coverings and body size that tempered some of the animation issues that became a lot more overwhelming on the human and elven bodies in more snug-fitted attire.  I really don't like it at all.  It pulls me out of the game (and roleplaying) entirely.

I loved the walk/run mod for DA2.  My most used mod for that game.

Having two voicesets to choose from is great, and the customization options seem more diverse than before, which is also great, but I do wish we would have gotten a choice between the two walk/run cycles.

I'd love for the mods to be available for consoles too. I can't buy a PC to play (I have only a laptop for work, not too old, but is already not enought for the newer games)

but I'll download in a moment a mod to have the male animation outside of cutscene too for my femInquisitor.

Sigh. I think I'll have to roleplay she is making fun of Vivienne or something...

I am behind this 100% :) Dragon's Dogma allows you to select your gate, and the OP isn't even asking that much... just the ability to select masculine or feminine walk and standing animation.

Would have to be post-launch, I would imagine; if they wanted to make the female's arms rest naturally at her sides like the male's (instead of hovering delicately in the air the way they do currently) they would probably have to test and make sure her hands don't clip into her armor.

This might be unpopular to say and I apologize if I come off as beating a dead horse this just bugs me so much, if they only default to male animations for the cut scenes then I really see no point in giving female pcs their own animations that for me really drives it home that she is walking and running like that because it's 'sexy' and I have a feeling that if we did get to choose the walk and run cycles of the PC that the cut scenes would still default to one all the time and if thats the case then I'd rather just have one default walk for everyone personally. Seeing my Inquisitors going from the female walk cycle to the male walk cycle whenever a cut scene happens would pull me more out of the game than the the female walk cycle it's self. I mean really why go through the work of having different walk run animations when its going to default to one during the cut scenes? At this point I'd much rather have the in game walk cycle match up to the cut scene walk cycle and them not matching up still gives me the impression of 'this character walks like this to have their ass stared at and nothing more'.

That would not have been such a big problem if the female animation was toned down and less exaggerated. If the femWalk was less "sexy" and visible, such changes of animation would have felt less noticeable.

Very true but since they are still pretty exaggerated it's quite noticeable at least so far it is to me and makes me question why all the hard work was even done if it gets thrown out of the cinematic scenes all together. I would love to be able to chose the animations of walk and run for my PCs but I would also really like for them to match up to the movements in the cut scenes if that makes sense.
