Very true but since they are still pretty exaggerated it's quite noticeable at least so far it is to me and makes me question why all the hard work was even done if it gets thrown out of the cinematic scenes all together. I would love to be able to chose the animations of walk and run for my PCs but I would also really like for them to match up to the movements in the cut scenes if that makes sense.

I agree. I don't like, and I'll never like, the "sexy walk", but having it at least coerent with the cuscene would at least feel like it was put work to make a different animation to give the feeling to have a very "feminine" character, and not the male one.

But as it is, the femWalk feel like it was put there just for the straight male players to have "something pleasurable" to look at while playng. -_- and not having a female character.

More options are always good, but we can't have everything.

Would those (that are complaining) prefer we go back to the "good old days" when Femshep and Sheploo had the same animations, legs spread sitting scenes and whatnot?

People want to turn everything into a feminist debate it seems - the world has gone mad.

post script: I have plenty of friends who walk like the Femquisitor.. are the people here who are saying it's "not normal" saying my friends "aren't normal" ?

Femquisitor DOES have manquisitor's animations in cutscenes already just like Mass Effect so...

Your friends are only "not normal" imo if they run into battle, trek up mountains and through darkspawn infested pits wearing heavy plate armor and forcing an extreme, stylized, unrealistic sexy strut the whole time. Strutting down the sidewalk, sure. Strutting through a club, totally fine. Strutting through the grocery store, a-ok. Super-extreme-strutting away from a rampaging bear...uh no.

Honestly? Yes. I would. I would much rather the animations be the same between genders, because they already are in cinematic cutscenes. But other people feel differently.

As to the second part of your comment: there are people out there who do walk like that, it's true. However, some of us are tired of being represented by those types of walk animations every time we pick up a video game? Like, my back hurts watching the lady femquisitor walk, to be perfectly honest, in addition to making me feel slightly uncomfortable.

And certainly there are people who have been denied femininity/sexiness, so if they like that animation as a representation for that, then that's wonderful. But I know there are a lot of players out there who dislike being pigeonholed into that sort of box.

It's not something that's impossible to be addressed either, and there are plenty of games out there that let you choose walking animations in character creation.

If Frostbite was also more easily moddable, this wouldn't bother me so much, because I'd just download a mod and address my grievances that way.

Bioware devs always say that merely allowing players to toggle something is a lot more work than it intuitively seems. Whether or not you believe them (I personally think I do) that's what they're going to say here.

But no one is asking for a toggle, just a choice in CC o.o

generally a toogle is the default setting for this kind of features, isn't it?

Yes. I never had a problem with FemShep animations or way she sit (I always sit like that myself). I simply never put on that horrible dress, and I have the character I wanted. A tomboysh soldiar that happen to be female. I loved it.

..... Most of us don't want our full grown women who are warriors and leaders to have the idle animations of a 5 year old.......

Yes, absolutely!

DA2 idle animation is horrible. FemHawk just finish slicing and dicing and a moment later that slow toe wiggling while idle... what were Bioware's Devs thinking? More important who approved that ..that...embarassment?

Hmmm...  as an ex system programmer and master of archane "how did you do that?", I can point out that unless the animation you want is pre-recorded when the actors suit up for the purpose of combat animation recording or walking/sitting for that matter, then they have a point. Yes? However, if animation recording of multiple men/female walking was made then switching from one to another

is easy... much easier at character selection time.

Of course, one animation for all characters is much simpler to code and easier on the budget. Notice the character animation from in the DAI Teaser Videos/Streamed Videos  of, say,  mage combat.... that staff twirling move as an example.

A more immersive game would show different styles... especially between different races.... hmmm.. reminds me of DA2 dungeons...

I like the idea of being able to switch between the two walk/run animations. I don't really want my F!Inquisitors to sashay around like F!Hawke did.

And before someone says the female walk animations looked weird on males, someone made a mod to give SEBASTIAN the female gait in DA2, and damn did it look sexy.

In the Skyhold video, we got to see a lady inquisitor mince about Skyhold and while it isn't nearly as exaggerated as f!Hawke's movements, it was still a bit disappointing.
Until I remembered my fave thing in the world is to make my big burly m!Hawkes mince around with the animation-swap mod. (May M!Hawke's hips never quit.)

Can we get a "Sway off/on" toggle somewhere?  (I don't care if this happens post launch lol) I mean, There are games that allow you to chose your walk animations in CC, so it's not like it's revolutionary either. (Can you imagine a huge m!Adaar running around like that? Hips swinging back and forth like a pendulum? I need this to happen. Who knows how long it'll take for Frostbite to be cracked.)

EDIT: When I say "toggle" here I literally mean "let us chose between the two available options" because I honestly do not expect Bioware to add in more animations. I'd just like to choose which run my Inquisitors have. Fullstop, and I know there are others who are interested in that as well.

This is not meant to shame others who walk differently than us, or walk like this in real life. The Inquisitor isn't a real person, however, and their movements are planned, choreographed, and coded by a team of developers. The Inquisitor's walk is artificial and not the result of his/her/their development as a human being. It was decided for them by a third party.

It is a response to the uncomfortable reality that, in gaming, characters who are coded "female" are often given a different set of movement animations intended to sexaulize them or heighten their sexuality. No one is saying that this has to be taken out, some of us would just like the option to NOT have a walk/run animation created for the sole purpose of making our heroine's butt wiggle while she walks. And some of us would like to see our heroes (or Inquisitors of other gender alignments) sashay around with that same animation.

I remember it seemed unrealistic to me, but hell, did it look fine! :D I'm afraid we'll have to play hundreds of hours of a game surrounded by beautiful female asses that sway like a supermodel's. I have come to terms with this possiblity and feel ready to endure it :D

The mod to give all the companions f!Hawke's mod was actually fairly popular, it had over 1K unique downloads hahaha.

No, but I don't see why the choices for a female protagonist have to be one extreme or the other.

If not a switch/toggle, then something far more neutral for the idle/walk/run animations. This is how the female Inquisitor already idles/walks/runs during cutscenes.

I hate that the choices are: extreme, unrealistic, stylized, and created for the male gaze rather than the female player OR male animations put on a much smaller female frame with little to no alteration which makes her walk like she just got off a horse and her arms sticking way out to accommodate for a bigger frame that she doesn't actually have.

It would be nice if the walk would be more casual so that it would apply to more of the population.

The walk they chose is pretty rare and it does suggest quite a bit of personality.

I'd never want to be disrespectful to anyone who does walk this way though, so I recant any prior statements where I called the walk unnatural.

Honestly the all the serious problems I have with the game are small things. It seems to happen pretty often that games have 90% of things perfect (or at least pretty good) but have a few small bad points. Most of those bringing up small things probably do so because they're totally fine with the big things

Tell us how you really feel. lol. ;)

Ideally the walks would be more neutral, but I'd be perfectly happy if they'd let us chose between the 'male' and 'female' walk animations for our inquisitors no matter their gender. Anything that gives people a choice (and lets me play with gender presentation, yay!) would be super awesome.

its far too late for this in even if it was not name a game that lets choose different walking animations, like said there far more better things they can be doing with there time .like making there not skyrim level bugs in the game in etc.
