Why dont we make her wear a burqa while we are at it. The keep outfit is very snug and you can clearly make out her ass and breasts.
I am sure that is entirely unintentional, just like it might happen in real life. Realistic.
Has no connection to how the developers portray women, or catering fan service to that segment of the video game market that objectify women and/or play the game for its (really) softcore role-play elements.
None. Zero. No connection whatsoever. I hope I am being clear.
I don't think people realize how much work it would take to be able to change the animations. In this case I think they rather put the resources into the combat animations instead. I can howeever see how some people don't like the feminine walk all that much. It is somewhat wierd to see a brutal warrior woman walk in a overly feminine way.

No.
The female already uses male animations in the cinematics.

Just a note that using an animation in a cinematic is not necessarily related to using that same animation during gameplay. They are typically handled rather differently. It is also a mistake to believe that using a resource in the controlled environment of a cutscene means it can be used during regular gameplay; there are memory and performance concerns as well as questions of what looks good at what camera angles.

Okay so would it be difficult to give the female elf male animations in gameplay?
And...I fail to see how that walk looks good. Especially when she's walking next to Cass. She looks rather frumpy in comparison if I'm being honest. Which again would be fine...if she didn't have the clearly female animations the rest of the time.
Also why would replacing the female animations with male animations for one female character lead to memory issues? (I'm genuinely curious in case this comes off differently).
Not saying that you are wrong, but could you send a link. Have not seen that in a cinematic cutscene/ trailer yet. Might have missed it.

The female elf doesn't look good in that cinematic with her walking with Cass though. She looks terrible especially in comparison. Cass is clearly using the female walk (as is mother Giselle (or however it's spelled) in another scene). Again this wouldn't bother me if it was consistent with the gameplay walk. But it's not.
Edit: Also that standing pose confuses me. I've never seen someone stand like that while idling in my life.
The hardest technical part of this I think would not be switching the animations or even calling up one particular animation. Those resources already exist somewhere in the coding and the game data. The harder part would be tying it in to a GUI/Menu somewhere--whether it's a gameplay menu or a CC option. That's my assumption with a very limited knowledge of coding. The next question is: is it "worthwhile" for the devs to put in that effort? If enough people express interest, then maybe yes, perhaps it is worthwhile.
I just wish every person who ever downloaded those animation-swap mods were in here and lending more voices to this discussion haha.

Well, you'd have to code in an option in the CC or somewhere if you want to change the gameplay walk, which could take some doing, depending on how it's handled now. But yeah, the animations themselves already exist, and are in certain places already being applied to the female model.

I'm just finding it a bit meh that she can sway when the camera might be focused on her back but with cinematics they can't be bothered keeping said animations consistent. Even when it'd make far more sense for her to be swaying when it's cinematic time considering many of those will be in safe places if the whole mostly talking to companions in the keep/camp bit is true rather than swaying in muddy fields and beach coasts.

I totally agree. The inconsistency in particular bugs the hell out of me and I'm totally for the option to choose. Just saying it may take more than a snap of the fingers to implement, so even if they do decide to do this it may take a while.
The female animation is a little less evident in the Qunari, but is bad. really bad. Reminded me of a japanese Idol. Expecially since is so out of context. Looking her sway while running down a hill make me want to bet when she will stumble. Just like when I was a little kid.
I think I'll make wear to all my female Inquisitor the long coat. That help to see less the sway, I've noticed.
Still sad we can't have a more "martial" walk for a female character.

I was watching the latest stream about the crafting and I noticed that the femquisitor's arms are sticking out at odd angles in an attempt to be elegant and dainty, instead of just hanging relaxedly down her body. It gave me sympathy muscle ache >_<

Saw some now too, it is horrible the idle animation. I actually liked DA 2 a lot more, it seem less uncomfortable.
I really do not know what they were thinking, it is so strange to see the FemInq with more comfortable animation on cut scenes and than bam, disgrace. Now I do not even know if I can play dwarf, I really dislike what they did with the animations and bodies type for females.

I agree. Those arms remind me of poor FemShep. I still can't understand how she can use a Black Widow.
Will we be ever able to play a female with a more athletic body (like a volleyball player, or a skier) somebody with actual muscle mass that happen to be female?
Nothing is wrong with noodle arms! There are plenty of people who have strength, yet have singular toned muscle mass. Sometimes people need to be strong without having body mass and so they work out accordingly to build strength, but not bulk. Strength has more to do with your motor system rather than your beefy muscles. I understand wanting to have a pc that looks muscular to fill your roleplaying needs, but you can be slender and trim and still be strong enough to do battle.
I don't know why bioware does this. It seems that for every stereotype that they brake they impose another.
I don't know if it's so much Bioware's doing, or a culmination them and fan expectations. For instance, there is a pretty widespread misconception about armor and weapons and also about what a "Warrior" should look like, behave like and who they should be. In a fantasy RPG, it's even harder because you have so many individuals imposing their own standards and stereotypes on how they want their character to be. It's a slippery slope to getting it right and not pissing off too many people.
It's a tough balance to find, if reading this forum alone is any indication.
It depends what type of slenderness it is. FemHawke wasn't beefy but she has some definition, she was athletic. FemShep was just super slim and it looked stupid

It would be extremely easy to change female animations to male. There's even a simple mod for DA2 that allows you to switch from female to male animations.
Everything would be much easier if we were able to mod this game... so many major BSN issues would be solved: new hairstyles, new animations, ball uniforms, casual apparel... I hate you, Frostbite!

It's very simple - you make ONE animation for everybody, no matter race, gender, class.

Meh, I disagree. I thought femshep was fine the way she was. I liked her body style. To each their own.

I don't disagree. I would like to see this implemented, but I hold no illusion that it would be a "fix". I can almost guarantee that there would still be complaints. There would still be complaints that it's either too "masculine" or "feminine" or that >insert race< wouldn't walk that way, or "that isn't how a warrior or mage would walk". I have a feeling not much would change. Sure, we might be happier, but I don't see it doing much beyond that.
