It's the biggest BioWare's problem, and didn't happened only with DA2 combact. If a thing doesn't work too well, two things happen: or it is totally deleted, or is completely reversed to the exess.

DAO's female animation was a little stiff? let's make DA2's animation like FHawke have a tail intead of a spinal column.

The Mako and the planet exploration was a little boring in some parts? let's cut them altogether.

The third neutral option of dialogue sometimes doesn't really change the answers? let's just have two different dialogue choices. <_<

Is hard to have a more sad dramatic ending in ME than having a happy "hero win and save the galaxy"? let's take away totally the option for a happier ending

People play little at the various races? let's cut them and use only humans.

Elves are too "human like"? Let's make them a mix of a Na'vi and a Hobbit.

Fewer people play as hetero FemShep? let's cut away half of her romances. -_- (I know, now is the contrary, but, like I said, from one exess to the other)

The minigames to open doors and others thing with loot are a little boring after some times? Let's remove the minigame.

I'm not flaming. Is just a trend I have seen quite a few times happen in BioWare's games. Someone else have noticed it, or is just me?

A few game developers do this, but no, it's not just you.

My "favorite" is:

Warrior and Rogue are too similar? Remove every rogue weapon option but daggers and bows.

I still prefer use of male animations for female character since those are more in the neutral side, they aren't ultramasculine and when male animations was used in Origins I didn't even notice it with my female characters, I was completely happy with the animations. In DA2 I grinned so many times during running somewhere and then just headcanoned that my female Hawkes conciously walked like they wanted to seduce everyone in the Thedas. I guess I chose them as rogues and played on more sarcastic side for that reason too.

In DAI I however would have loved to return to my stoic warrior ladies that I liked to play in Origins..

Or, remove every warrior weapon option except two handed and sword/shield. Depends on your point of view. :) Personally I didn't mind it too much, it did really differentiate the two classes. Especially since neither ever shared any skills with the mage to begin with, so it always seemed odd to me to have two classes so similar while the third was so different. But I can see where it would annoy people, it did cut out a possibility for diversity within the classes.

And both had a side effect of forcing mages to have staves and nothing else until the end of time ;). Mages might have had totally different skills, but man, did I love to wield a sword and through Arcane Bolt everywhere. Robes swishing around me.....

Anyway... we're drifting off topic a bit :P.

I agree. I would also like the option to use the male walking and running animations on my female PC. Ideally, they would have made neutral female walking and running animations. However, since they didn't, I would much prefer the male animations because they are more neutral than the female animations.

Asking for neutral animations or for an on off toggle or just to use the same animations for male & female characters, sets us back in terms of game development, back to when all animations were the same for each character, when I'd like to see us move forward.

How does asking for the option to pick which animation "set us back"? I am genuinely confused. By definition, both options would be included.

I really hate the attitude on these forums that if a female does anything that could be considered 'attractive' to a male then she's obviously doing it for 'attention' or 'sex appeal' and isn't a 'sensible real woman'. Yet no one ever points out the over-masculine male movements as being an appeal for women. That's not equality.

People do walk as such in real life. A walk often has far more to do with body proportions, rather than personality. For women with wider hips, that walk is perfectly natural.

That being said, I've mentioned on other threads that I am in favor of there being some type of choice between female and male animations within the character creator. For myself, I like the current animations (apart from the stand perhaps), although I could imagine them not fitting every character I planned out. But I'm not about to berate someone for preferring something else.

I have very wide hips, a huge butt, and a small waist. I don't walk like that naturally. My hip width doesn't give me the magical power to move my spine from side to side like a swimming fish while running.

The female inquisitor has no motives, the people who created her movements have motives and that was to make her sexually appealing.

The knowledge that playing footsie is something that she is wont to do tarnishes her.

I just find it so freaking odd that they try to build up the femPC as being badass and tough, and yet she is diminished with all of these various stances and animations.

FemHawke's hip stance.

FemHawke's footsie thingy.

FemQusitor's bizarre arms out to the side at a 45 degree angle while having her weight shifted inefficiently with one foot in front of the other.

FemQuisitor's idle animations are still to be determined, but the rest along with the walking of both, have all elicited head-scratching, face-palming, and head-desking from me at various times.

So yes.

I haven't read this whole thread, and I haven't scrutinized the movements of the female Inquisitor, so this is me simply responding to the OP's suggestion of letting us choose our walk/run animations.

I am always bothered when I play a female character in a game, and it becomes obvious that my character is using the mocap movements of a male. 'I'm running wrong' is what constantly plays in the back of my head, and it never sits comfortably. I can't say that, as a female, I know exactly how every other female moves, but I am quite aware how we move differently than males. Our center of gravity is different, for starters, and that is the base of the whole 'I'm running wrong' feeling, since the balance is all off.

So I'm always happy when my character moves and it 'feels right'. But if that 'feels right' comes along with the mincing/overbalanced moves of someone wearing high heels or an over-exaggerated badonkadonk hip sway... well, that honestly feels worse than genderswap mocap, so I think I'd prefer to clomp around with an incorrect center of gravity instead. Especially if the (perhaps exaggerated) mocap involves other animations that are put in for what seems like no other reason than 'female!!'ing things up, well... Having the option to choose - just in case!!! - would be lovely.

She doesn't want people to have a choice because her friend supposedly walks and runs exactly like femhawke and femquisitor.

I am almost certain BioWare won't give us any kind of patch or update that lets us choose our animations but hopefully they'll do something different for the next game. A little bit of butt wiggle is fine and natural BioWare, a spastic wriggling fish run is not. Most of us don't want our full grown women who are warriors and leaders to have the idle animations of a 5 year old. If I want to play an immature character or a seductress character, that's something *I* should be able to choose through dialogue, actions, clothing, and choices. It should not be forced on me when it not only doesn't fit with a the character I play but downright contradicts her.

Don't put words in my mouth.  I never said I didn't want choice available because of that. I just don't like the insults that have been thrown around.
