Oh there is an updo?
Yeah across all genders and races--except the Qunari of course. It's pretty intricate Orlesian French braid style updo. I *think* there's a bun hairstyle as well but I'm not positive on that.

Braid the long hair up into an updo and try putting a helmet on or Armour. It doesn't fit properly. I wore helmets for years and have very short hair due to my job at the time and. I wish I had long hair sometimes. But it just is not practical. Armour (Bullet proof vests) is very hard t find to fit a female body as it is, so when i game i want female Armour that fits and is functional, not steel bikini's with flowing long hair whishing in the wind as I fight my way thru hordes of baddies.

So you don't wear helmets? Then good thing this is not multi player, as I would target anyone who chooses fashion over safety. Worrying about your hair when you will be fighting. I cant be the only female veteran in here who finds that so funny?

There have been plenty of cultures who have had long-haired warriors wearing helmets. And these are helmets smithed by hand, (or at the very least, fastened together by hand) so it's not like a "one size fits all" thing is going on here. One would presume the Inquisitor's crafters would be skilled enough to adjust the fit for their hairstyle. And if you want to believe the internet, the chonmage (the top knot") hairstyles were also a way for samurai to help keep their helmets in place. So there you go. Hair being used to achieve a more 'snug' fit.

@LiquidLyrium, I concede you have a point. Having used armour and helmets I do not see long hair as being practical.

Besides, not every single character is going to use a helmet. As a rogue or mage player, I don't feel the need to wear a helmet since I will be long ranged, also there is a hide helmet toggle. So whether or not it will fit is a point we can bypass.

[The film adaptations of The Lord of the Rings did a very poor job with properly representing the elves in general. Pet peeve of mine; I can't stand those adaptations. There is very little indeed that I feel they did right.]

We are supposed to be HEROES! In fantasy-settings or any other kind of heroic tale (except comic books..) true heroes do not wear helmets! So we can distinguish them from the grunts ... see below...and Agent Smith there has kinda long hair, so I guess even elves should use some "head and shoulders" now and then

And yeah, though I prefer shorter hair, some more options would be nice. Clipping? I played so many mods for Skyrim I am not offended by it. Also some nice ponytails surely would be easier to handle to not clip?

Lots of clipping issues and difficult to animate.
Devs should finally get out from the comfort zone and learn how to fix it. One day the will have to face this problem anyway.

But why spend that extra time and money on hair when it can be spent on beter things, more important things.
Long hair is only such a tiny part.

Long hair looks bad???
No, but seriously now. I think i've seen one for fem inquisitors that's medium short, that's as long as you get, I guess. No game has ever made long hair (or hair, in general) well. Maybe the sims 4?

That's just bull. I will tell you what it is. It is 'taking the easy way around'. And because of that we have now a lot of baldies and buzz cuts in the game. TW2 did it just fine.

Ashley and Miranda got long hair but they also only had like 2 outfits each at most so accounting for clipping was an easy task. If you have customisable outfits then checking to ensure hair doesn't clip into all of the possible outfits is a long and arduous task. Modders don't care about clipping which is why some of the more talented ones can churn out hundreds of hairstyles, but the BW artists presumably do care.
DAI has physics for long coat tails and presumably skirts. The same thing can be done to hair and I think this is the future of long hairstyles. Heck, if some Skyrim modders can release half a dozen ponytails complete with physics, what could a company with actual monetary resources do?
