Okay I don't know if there is a thread like this already but if there is one sorry, okay, lets begin, WARNING! This thread will contain spoilers from DAO: Witch Hunt DLC! And may contain spoilers from DA:O and DAO:A and DA2. And the Masked Empire! You have been warned!

Okay lets begin, we know who is the Inquisitor in total, but do we know from where he/she got he/her's powers?

No, but I have a theory, remember Witch Hunt? Where Morrigan says that the child is a "Herald of what is to come" And that she prepars him for what is to come? No I am not saying the Inquisitor is the child but I have a theory that the Inquisitor is an ambomination and that the child is the spirit part, remember "The Enemy" trailer? Where there was a voice saying "You should never have existed!" Well anyway my theory is that the child gives the Inquisitor the powers to close the rifts that are opening around Thedas, and to me it makes sense that Morrigan's return is connected to THAT. Many pepole belive the Inquisitor is THE CHILD but it have been confirmed that the child is only 9 years old, so... And I dont think bioware can make a protoganist that is no matter what a male and make Elven/Dwarven fans be angry, and after that Qunari fans too, so t makes more sence that the child is the spirtual side of the Inquisitor at least for me... Tell your theories here! :)

Haven't they already stated the dark ritual is cannon, whether people chose to do it or not?

It may be canon in one of the Default Universes, but they have stated that the decisons in your game are yours alone. There is no canon that everyone has to adhere by. My canon is different from yours and yours is different from BWs.

There isn't really a canon for DA even in terms of a default state. The default game-state for example is one that minimises cameos and callbacks and basically follows the 'The Martyr' preset from DA2. By contrast the recent comic book trilogy starring Alistair, Isabela and Varric is set in a timeline where Alistair did the Dark Ritual with Morrigan. It is unknown whether the novels take place in this latter timeline or in a separate one entirely.

If the game's default state was the same as the novel or comic-verse we might be able to speak of a kind of loose 'canon' (e.g. Female Dalish Warden, Alistair King and had a baby with Morrigan, Male Hawke Mage, sided with Mages but killed Anders), but since even these clash then it's not really plausible to speak of one.

Not going to happen considering BioWare has told us repeatedly that the OGB won't exist if you never did the Dark Ritual.

I wonder what his name is if he does exist, though.

I think it'll be Geoff.

The Inquisitor is like Cole, a spirit that's forgotten he/she's a spirit and assumed the identity of a nearby (dead/dying) mortal.

...OGB?  What's that got to do with anything?

It would be Urthemiel of course, no one would suspect. Actually I wonder why it has to be a boy, a girl would be better, then it could be called Urzara.

I haven't seen it myself but is it certain that's a reference to the OGB? Could it be the human child that the Warden could have with Morrigan?

Urthemiel is a pretty dumb name for a 10 year old boy, or for anyone really. Morrigan might be cruel but I doubt she's that cruel.

Although I enjoyed reading this theory, there are too many other probabilities (such as mentioned - the dark ritual never happened) that completely and unfortunately invalidates the theory.

It may not be all that spectacular. "You should never have existed....you were a mistake..."

So the more probable explanation of how the Inquisitor got his/her green hand would be by means of freak accident.

Or perhaps the whole thing was orchestrated by Flemeth....

We'll find out pretty soon!

My bet is on Evangeline dying in the blast and the spirit keeping her alive assists us.

+1. Near death experience + glowing cracks in the skin + ability to do something only spirits have done thus far (closing Veil tears)... sounds like an abomination to me.

I think the probability of the Inquisitor being some kind of abomination is pretty high. Exactly who/what the spirit they are/they've fused with is is another matter, however.

I like this Idea as it sorta makes sense with the golden spirit you see in one of the trailers. I'm not as familiar with Cole as I did'nt read the books but I could certainly see the Inquisitor being in a Anders or Wynne like situation.

If you don't use the Keep, then the Warden did the ultimate sacrifice by default, so I doubt the OGB is going to be that integral to the plot.
