Lore question, does anyone know if Qunari/Kossith can have children with humans? We know that a dwarf and a human can - though it is very rare. We know an elf and a human can, though the child will be human. Has it ever been stated if it possible for a Qunari and human? Within the Qun itself I know the Tamassrans don't breed mixed race children and Tal-Vashoth aren't exactly numerous or welcomed with open arms so even if it is possible it'd be rare.

p.s. I'm totally avoiding any question of whether the horned race are actually called Qunari - as far as most of Thedas is concerned that's they're name so I'll we'll stick with it for ease.

Don't think anyone has tried at least not anyone we've spoken to.

It is unknown. But considering that humanity can interbred with other races I see no reason why it wouldn't be possible with Qunari. What the results would be are unknown. The Qunari are unlike the other races physically and aesthetically, and their biology is unusual. Horns, metallic color skin, immunity to certain toxins, Vitaar and saarqamek not to mention that they are bigger than us. Physical reasons aside I see no reason why they can't try. It'll fun to try at least.

Nobody knows at the moment. It's unknown if Qunari can actually breed with any other races.

Yeah, I don't think that there are any references either way to this.  I'm assuming that now that it is possible to have a female human/elf/dwarf PC romance a male qunari, the subject will be broached in some capacity.

Yes, there will be many Qunari/human hybrids in the future pondering what it means to be Quman.

My human female would definately want to know more about the potential size of qunari/kossith babies and if they might be born with horns....I'm thinking "ouch" :pinched:

Gah! Hadn't though of this - guessing the horns come in later. Sort of like teeth. For the sake of Qunari women i certainly hope so.

Nah im thinking the horns develope latter on judgeing from hight i assume qunari babies are arround the same size as humans but gestation rates could be different that being said im not sure about physical or genetic compatability.

Lol yeah, I agree about the horns. I just had this awful thought of my petite human female giving birth to a mini Arishok   It will be interesting to find out about though :).

Aren't all mammals with horns born without them for this very reason?  I can't think of a single one that has horns (beyond maybe a nub) at birth.

Interestingly, it's the same with porcupines.  They are born without quills and they come in shortly afterwards.  Hedgehogs and echidnas are born with soft spines that harden shortly after birth.

What if Qunari are born with soft floppy horns at birth... this would mean Twi'leks are actually all baby Qunari. As far I'm concerned this is now Star Wars lore :D

Someone should probably tweet the devs this question to find out.

THen again it may be that Qunari cant just cause of how different they are from other races.

Well assuming all humanoid races on Fadas branched off from the same evolvlutionery species and fit into a simeler taxonomy that still dose not mean that they can produce offspring.

departing from DA lore lets look at Tank girl for example who famously has sex woth a humanoid Kangaroo but has never become pregnant despite massive amounts of unprotected ( drunken ) sex mostly due to uncompatable genetics and biology.

Well the first qunari/ogre brood mothers would have been impregnated by darkspawn or ghoul humans/elf/dwarf. so it seems they can bread with other races.

But the taint does do weird things...

I doubt it. Granted, there might be a Dev out there who could eventually say otherwise, but just looking at the two races makes me think that it isn't possible. Sexual compatibility does not mean they can procreate. To switch universes for a second- think humans and drell. Sex, sure, kids, no.

Honestly I assumed that broodmothers don't actually have sex with the darkspawn to make more. Their bodies just start producing them with parthenogenesis. I mean taint ruins fertility in species I'd find it odd if they reproduced with actual sex. It would also explain why the type of darkspawn that come out seem to depend entirely on the mother.

Heck it would explain why all the darkspawn seem to be male, and why they can't just give birth to other broodmothers, if their breeding works like Komodo dragons doing parthenogenesis, where a female giving birth without a mate will always spawn males.

You're right we don't quite know. we know to become a brood mother you must be turned into a very very f'd up taint spawn, but we have seen Female ghouls so the taint it's self isn't enough to do it.

Personally i don't think Humans/Elf/Dwarfs can mate with qunari. the qunari grew up on a continent very far from thedas. so i just don't think they can do it.

I assumed it was whatever that whole ritual was with them eating the flesh of their own kin (or at least eating people) and I think they were fed darkspawn flesh as well.

As for the qunari mating with elves/humans/dwarves....isn't there a rumor that the qunari are just either humans or elves that did something that got their blood mixed with dragons and that made them into the qunari we know, based on something said about them all having the option to be a reaver in the comics? Or am I misremembering?

If that is the case I'm betting they breed like whatever species they were before.

Even without horns, the size of the head will likely be a pretty big problem for Male Qunari/Female Human couples. Hell, it can be a problem even with two human parents. Are there C-sections in Thedas?

I'm just going to assume that when it comes to reproduction they are biologically incompatible.
