Even without horns, the size of the head will likely be a pretty big problem for Male Qunari/Female Human couples. Hell, it can be a problem even with two human parents. Are there C-sections in Thedas?

Are qunaris heads any larger than human heads? And do we know they aren't simply more elastic at birth?

It'd be even worse for female elves, if possible. Their waists are thinner.

Maybe it a situation where only female Qunari and Male human/elf/dwarf can produce an offspring cause a female human/elf/dwarf would die just trying to grow one?

I assumed it was whatever that whole ritual was with them eating the flesh of their own kin (or at least eating people) and I think they were fed darkspawn flesh as well.

I agree, if I remember the scene from DAO in the Dark Roads with the woman who had been part of Branka's house (sorry I can't remember her name now... Felsi, I wan't to say?) based off her rhyme/song and talking to her it seems like they are exposed to the taint and forced to eat their kin. However, I think it also implies that this isn't immediately successful each time. As she said all the women had been taken away, leaving only her now, and that there was only one that became a broodmother. I don't remember if it was explicitly said that they tried to make all of them broodmothers though, or if the others were just used to make one broodmother.

I doubt it. Granted, there might be a Dev out there who could eventually say otherwise, but just looking at the two races makes me think that it isn't possible. Sexual compatibility does not mean they can procreate. To switch universes for a second- think humans and drell. Sex, sure, kids, no.

I agree, I think it's possible it may be just like drell. However, all the other races have it as a possibility, and with the Qunari culture being as it is it may just be that there was no real chance/reason to go out of the way to show their children. It seems extremely rare to see any female Qunari away from their homeland (correct me if I'm wrong but they seem to take up roles in the culture that tend to leave them at or near their home). And the male Qunari and Tal-Vashoth we have seen up until now seemed much more interested in their orders, the Qun, or killing whatever they see moving (depending on which group we are talking about that is).

But I also think that now with the option of romance in the mix that it may be brought up at some point... hopefully.

In terms of broodmothers, the lore states that the darkspawn reproduce asexuality. So no genlock/hurlock/orge and broodmother getting it on. Which means that (hopefully) even in the event the Bioware devs going insane we'll be spared that cinematic ever appearing :P

But even if sexual reproduction was part of the darkspawn life cycle think the taint makes them too different to say a yes or no to my question generally. Going on peoples responses and looking it up myself seems like there isn't a hard cannon answer to this yet - who know, maybe it'll come in the course of romancing Iron Bull.

It wouldn't surprise me if C-sections exist in Thedas. In real life, they have been around since ancient times, though it was a last resort until relatively recently.

There are no female or male darkspawn. Broodmothers are special ghouls that produce darkspawn, but are not darkspawn themselves... technically, anyway.

The Architect in The Calling was referred to as "it" and I forget if Awakening ever referred to the awakened darkspawn as "he" at any time.

The process on making a broodmother is not entirely known, except for that one poem that is said in Origins... which is the stuff of nightmares right there, no need to get into details...

As for the baby hybrid thing... I would guess it would be no different than a human/dwarf child. Dwarf/Qunari, though... Ugh, they should really stop the whole hybrid thing when it comes to different species like this.

For some reason, I was reminded of the martians in John Carter of Mars, and how they lay eggs. Yes, eggs. If you saw the movie, the love interest would lay an egg. I think Qunari should lay eggs.

I assumed they tried to make them all broodmothers, but well, only a percentage of people survive having the taint just becoming a warden. I'm guessing the process of becoming a broodmother kills most of those who go through it.
