I'm surprised no one said "Hawke". Seeing as he's a pretty established character that a lot of people took a liking to, and that he's already confirmed to have a story-arc in Inquisition he'd be a perfect candidate for a story-driven DLC that would add him as a companion.
So who is going to be the dlc companion this time?

There won't be any DLC companions this time, the devs confirmed that ages ago. Unfortunately I don't have a source at hand rn.
Edit. Found a source!

There will be no DLC companions. I don't have the link to the article, but it has been confirmed that there are going to be no DLC characters. Sebastian was a nightmare enough, I suppose. I think if there is going to be DLC's with companions, it'll be with big quests that maybe deal with something in one of their pasts. I can totally picture there being a DLC in which Varric runs into the real Bianca and you have to decide whether to kill her for something, or let her and Varric go off into the sunset together. No one has ever actually said the Real Bianca is dead, after all.

The thing is, Bioware has made compelling DLC companions in the past (Zaeed, Kasumi, Shale) but their newest additions were not as stellar. Sebastian was an especially unsympathetic character that didn't have the best writing as far as Bioware is concerned - at least in my opinion as a fan of their games. He came off as aggressive, entitled, and a total black-hole of charisma. I still appreciated his presence in my party as my go-to Rogue playing as a Templar-sympathizer, but otherwise his addition to the game and story was very underwhelming. If, for example, Bioware decided to release Hawke as a DLC companion with the ability to customize his personality and appearance from previous games (as it's already looking to be the case according to the Keep) I know quite a few people that would be EXTREMELY happy about it.

Now, I'm curious. They've said there won't be a DLC companion like Shale, Javik, or Sebastian, but does that mean that they could still do like in Mark of the Assassin, where they introduce a new companion character for the DLC mission?

What about companions in future expansions? If these companions are all we're getting for the entire life cycle of DA:I then I'm actually a little disappointed. I'm fine with no day one dlc companions though, that **** is stupid.

They'll probably be a dlc that has a temporary companion with you through out. ME2 (Liara), DA2 (Tallis) and ME3 (Aria) all had DLC that was character-centered. Thankfully, there isn't going to be full DLC companion at launch though. Bioware confirmed that.

Oghren will return yet again to join the Inquisition because no one in the Grey warden's could beat him in a drinking contest.

Does anyone do any research anymore before they open up a new thread?
The dev's have said this many times, there will be NO dlc companions. day 1 or after because to write in a new companion would be too difficult because of the story of the game.
So since we aren't getting a Day one companion, seems like we wont be getting one after that either.

Actually I would like to see more companions. I mean, look at the size of Skyhold. It's f***ing huge! It's not like there isn't any room to add more companions. I'm not basing that just off of how big our camp is but the scale of the game itself. The game is also f***ing huge! A lot bigger than some games we thought were big *cough* Destiny.
I think it would also expand heavily on the scale of characters that can and are being put into this game. We already have characters that are going outside of what people expect. I'm talking about the pansexual minotaur. There is no reason to add more characters like this. I'm not asking for more romance options. I've learnt to accept what we have and I'm actually quite happy with the palette. I'm just saying, what if we could get some dwarf companions or maybe some characters we might not even comprehend right now. Or maybe some from the books?
I do think it's a little to early for BioWare to say "no DLC companions" even though it is there game. I think that no doors should be firmly shut yet. I'm happy with the list of companions and advisors, but how many years is this game going to be out there before the next even gets officially announced; I'm willing to bet a few years. This games looks to have a lot of replay value, a lot of choices and along with Dragon Age Keep, there are going to be absolutely hundreds of different stories you can tell, but the companions are, and I'm taking a shot in the dark here, going to stay very much the same with a possible variation depending on whether they like you or not; same as DA:2s Friendship/Rivalry. That will get boring after a while.

Yes i was aware of that fact but that dose not mean that the topic of who you would like to see can not be broached after all there are arround 15 threads regarding who every one wants to romance.

Yeah, they've done it in the past, but I don't personally think it's a good practice. As far as Hawke goes... I think that would be too much trouble to put into a DLC. You'd have to recreate your Hawke for a 3-4 hour long DLC, and I can't see them going through that much trouble. It's the same reason they probably won't bring back the Warden.

There isn't going to be a DLC companion that will be integrated into the main story line- they said it would be too difficult to add one. There could be the possibility of tempory companions in DLC missions (ex. Tallis in MoTA).

Not to be rude, but starting a thread about DLC companions with the words "we all know it's going to happen" really doesn't convey that you're aware there won't be a DLC companion (a full companion like Shale or Seb, that is)... And nothing in the title or the OP suggests that we're meant to talk about who we'd like to see, so it's sort of understandable some people thought you were simply mistaken about the existence of DLC characters.

I'd love Shale as a temporary companion. The banter with her in DA:O was just the best.
