MESSAGE POPULAIRE !

So, this is something that I've seen tossed around in many a romance related thread. I figured I'd make a thread for it so that people who would like to see a gay knight in shining armor could consolidate their thoughts.

Regarding the archetypes of the LI's we've had up to this point, the gay knight in shining armor is one that has yet to be explored. The idea of a strong, virtuous, noble human warrior with strong morals has only been made available for opposite sex romance. (Alistair, Cullen, Blackwall, and Cassandra).  They tend to have a 'cute' and somewhat awkward quality about them concerning romance and the PC is implied to be one of (if not their only) romantic partners. It tends to make them seem more "innocent."

EDIT POST LAUNCH:  Boy, was I wrong about Blackwall. Lol.

Although Aveline isn't a LI, she is also an example of a straight character who fits the knight in shining armor archetype.

Meanwhile, characters available for same sex romance tend to be roguish characters who have a dark streak and/or questionable morals, and tend to be promiscuous. They tend to have a "bad boy/girl" or "edgy" quality to them. (Leliana, Zevran, Isabela, Anders, Fenris, Iron Bull, Sera). Note that this is not necessarily a bad thing, as grayness tends to make for interesting characters.

I would just like for things to be switched up from time to time.

So this is a thread asking for a strong, morally noble (not necessarily of noble status, but that would be good too) gay warrior. (Male and female would be great.)

Note:  Although  we know very little about the DA:I companions at this point, and it may be a bit premature to categorize them in such a way, I am making this thread now because it is a good time for suggestions to be made, since presumably the next DA game is in an early enough stage where new ideas can be put forward and possibly implemented.

I am not complaining here. I am happy with the fact that I have two guys to romance (Dorian and Bull) but I would like to see the archetypes of the LIs change up a bit in the next game.

Aveline isn't a romance option though,  but she does certainly fit the archetype and has only been in opposite sex relationships that we know of.

So much love for this thread! :D

I'm sure I'm gonna love Dorian and IB and I wouldn't trade them at all, but maybe for DA4 it would be a very nice thing to have this kind of LI!

And they are going to have more in the next game.  I'm just making a suggestion for the type of gay character I would like to see.

If we include other Bioware games, too:

The idea of a strong, virtuous, noble human warrior with strong morals has only been made available for opposite sex romance. (Alistair, Cullen, Blackwall, and Cassandra).

+Anomen in Baldur's Gate

+Sebastian in DA2, only caveat being usage of the bow

Meanwhile, characters available for same sex romance tend to be roguish characters who have a dark streak and/or questionable morals, and tend to be promiscuous. They tend to have a "bad boy/girl" or "edgy" quality to them. (Leliana, Zevran, Isabela, Anders, Iron Bull, Sera). +Sky in Jade Empire and Juhani in KOTOR

+Fenris, for the bad boy/dark streak part

+Theron Shan and Lana Beniko in SWTOR if you count them

Weeeeeell, you could flirt with her, that counts for something right? (sorry, I mean as counting her as a LI, in a way)

Well, there has already been one, for females at least. Juhani in KOTOR is a lesbian and was a Jedi Guardian, the Warrior class of that game.

When you meet her she had fallen to the dark side. I don't think she really counts.

Sure, the more different options the better for everyone. Although we still haven't met Dorian in game, perhaps he will be closer to what you are looking for in terms of character? In the twitch video he seemed like a really cool guy.

He definitely isn't a traditional warrior, he's an outcast and doesn't seem like the awkward/innocent/inexperience type.

Oh man, I totally see Fenris as the first category. He's a warrior who's nothing if not fully committed to his own moral compass, and virtuous to the extent that he wants to see evil punished (that guy in the cave killing elf girls) and chaos controlled (mages presided over by the templars) and the vulnerable protected (he bristles at Orana being a servant). He's never had a prior love interest so we can't even call his *potential* fling with Isabella promiscuous, and is a more than capable warrior, and bi. He gets a lot of flack for the haircut, being an elf, and not having a sunny disposition ala Alistair, but he fits your description to a T in my eyes.

Dorian's absolutely great! But I still would like to break the gay mages and rogues stereotype in the DA cycle. All the noble warriors have been straight thus far.

I don't believe its an archetype Bioware have done before (in DA or ME anyway), so if they were going to have a 'white knight' type character, it might be interesting if he were gay and bucked the trend a bit.

And it seems to have a fair bit of demand already, so I'd day its definitely a suggestion to bear in mind.

And besides, at least he wouldn't dump you for being infertile!

*glares at Alistair* <_<

I don't really agree. He's more concerned about revenge and survival than any broad sense of good.

I'm firmly in the camp of 'this is something I'd like to see' but along the lines some others have pointed out in the other thread that drifted into being about this :) I'd add the caveat that sexuality and whether you can romance a companion shouldn't be the starting point of writing one. Good well written characters are the most important thing. Just thought I'd throw that in.

Edit: Forgot to say, actually really love the romance options for DA:I, like OP - really not complaining :)

Sandal, I am happy that you made this thread.  This has been something that I've wanted to see explored in media since my childhood.  I had the biggest crush on the prince from Sleeping Beauty as a kid and it's really been a "thing" of mine.

Unfortunately, in fantasy and science fiction, there are rarely gay characters like this.  I think you hit the nail on the head regarding the roguish gay character versus the heroic straight character.  Obviously it's a bit of a generalization, but I see the trend.

I would love to see a gay knight in shining armor type in a future game.  I think that Gaider did a fantastic job with Julien and Nicolas.  He really hit the ball out of the park on that one.  They were masculine, heroic, warriors, and brothers-in-arms, who happened to be gay.  That's really what I want to see.  I don't want the whole storyline to be about them being gay.  Just characters in this vein who happen to be gay.

I've been waiting 30 years for this story to be told and I think that the DA team could really do it justice (ugh, Justice, no thanks).  I really hope that they take notice that this is something that some of their fans really, really want and I hope that there is one writer on the team who wants to tell that story.

I can see your point, but to me, there's a darkness to Fenris.  He's moody, bitter, and lashes out in anger.  He's also pretty prejudiced against mages (not to open that can of worms).  He doesn't really strike me as a "knight in shining armor" type.  More like a (emo) vengeful anti-hero type.
