Actually you don't have to be a criminal to join the legion, from the Wiki:

"The Legion is a military organization not unlike the Grey Wardens in that it accepts anyone from any level of society. Many join the Legion to avoid punishment for various crimes or to regain their honor. Others join to have their debts forgiven, thus restoring their Houses' lost honor. Some even join for the glory, and the Legion accepts them all the same." so a dwarven KISA could be paying off family debts they didn't personally incur, seeking glory or trying to kill darkspawn to keep others safe.

And  'd by Hanako.

In order to be a Chevalier, one has to commit an act of murder. Thus goes against being a KISA.

No, there are members of the Legion of the Dead who are not criminals. So there can be a KISA Legion of the Dead member.

That's not strictly true, the Chevalier practice of killing elves in the Alienage is an informal one, it's not required.

So lets do KISAs by Culture?

Antivan- Merchant Prince. A good man with no head for Antivan politics.

Orlais- Chevalier (unless it is true they have to kill to join most of what I have read says they are very infamous and abuse their power but I couldn't find where they Had to kill)

Any number of Orlesian Nobility who may be trained to fight.

Fereldan- A Bann, an actual Bann from one of the many titled nobles.

Not the general KISA but an Avvar of high rank and capability

Rivain- For the men, perhaps a human/Elf ex convert of the Qun.

A Spirit Warrior trained by a Seeress perhaps we know very little of Ravaini Faith

Maybe even a Spirit/human type who has lived there for many years One of Valor?

Don't know much about Free Marches or Tevinter for way of a KISA

Grey Wardens and Templars have been kind of milked for KISA though, would like a new order to take their place.

Elves- Warrior defender of the Dales?

Anyone from the old ages could be a KISA just wish they explain themselves.

Dwarves- Noble Cast and Warrior Caste were made for this.

Also Kalsharock has tons of stuff to explore

A wronged Warrior who was placed in the Legion after being framed?

Any more ideas?

The Inquisition could be a new order to take the place of the Grey Wardens and the Templars, I'm sure it's a good source for KISA.

Now that would be interesting.  If they keep up the pattern of a new protagonist with each installment, then maybe the Inquisition has continued to grow in the time between the two games.  Since we will probably be moving up North next game, having a companion who is a member of the Inquisition would be a neat way to tie DA:I with DA4.

I like this idea! Grey Wardens and Templars are too corrupted for my taste by the end of DAI (even DA2 for the Templars). It's difficult for me to see a gay KISA from these two orders.

Just because an order gets corrupt doesn't mean members within can't hold to the ideals of what started that order

And to be fair for the Wardens, some were being controlled by Cory while others were being manipulated due to the false Calling

But Wardens were never KISAs. Alistair was because he idealised them and Blackwall tried to be given his background.

Good point. It is more about the individual. And I think if Bioware is going to make a gay KISA who is a Templar or Grey Warden, I am sure they can pull it off.

No more Templars, please. I'll make an exception for gay Ser Barris, but I'd prefer the Chantry boys get benched next game. I'm also a little tired of Wardens. KISAs can come from many other places.

Considering we are going north, I wouldn't hold your breath for not having a Grwy Warden as a follower. There will probably be a Templar as well, but maybe the Tevinter kind rather than the kind we know so far.

I do too. I was excited by the prospect of getting one in Inquisition, but that prospect turned out to be that...man named Thom Rainier.

I'm bored to death of both templars and wardens. I suppose an Imperial templar might be interesting, but that's really the only way it's not going to be a trope beaten to death at this point.

Yeah I don't have an idea for a gay KISA from Tevinter either. Anyone has any suggestion? It seems that we might move north in the next DA game.

I don't even watch the show, but I have heard enough from a lot of people about the eye candy. Google image search gives very excellent results.

There's of course the question of which version of Crixus one prefers. I personally think his final season look works far better. But that's just cause he can really rock that stubble/beard.

Interesting list of cultures...do you guys feel that a KISA is inherently tied to an organization of some sort?

Yep, Manu plays Crixus.

As for the whole templar thing, I think the templars really do fall into that archetype within the universe, I don't think that there's a way to really separate KISA characters from templars, given that they're dominant warriors of the Dragon Age universe. These are the types of people who much of Thedas envision as being that knight in shining armor. Plus I think it's actually a good message within that framework for the templar to be gay - not only are they a KISA, they're also the religious warrior. It's an explicit statement of 'this dominant religion is not opposed to homosexuality,' which I think is really a bit of a big deal, given the way that some people try to pervert religion into an excuse to hate homosexuality.

Still here!  *Waves back enthusiastically*

I wish I could have this thread moved to the more high traffic areas of the DA:I forum, but I don't think it would be appropriate in any other section at this point?

I don't think any one organization in Thedas screams KISA more than any other, but I still would like a Nevarran dragon hunter. That would be awesome. But, to me, character traits and personality combined with a warrior status is more important than what organization they belong to. I'm not picky.
