This is my second tank ever in a BioWare game. My first was in SWTOR as Kit, where I was tanking for my husband's insane Bounty Hunter healer.
Doup (my husband): Say, what does this big red button do?
Me (tanking, not able to zoom out): What button?
<KABOOM!>
Me: What the hell just happened? Why am I dead??
Doup: <giggling hard>
Me: You don't giggle, unless...what did you do?!?
Doup: I pushed the Big Red Button. I just wanted to see what would happen!
Me: <groan> You're paying for my repairs, Giggles.
To some extent, I would agree. However, I'm having difficulty, in my own mind, divorcing the desire for an actual "knight" s/s romance versus having a noble, honorable warrior. And to some extent, they are pretty much one and the same, in my mind.
Oh, I honestly don't really care whether or not (s)he is an actual knight. What I do care about is that they are a warrior through and through. Lawful or maybe neutral good, and...other qualities that I have discussed before and don't want to unleash upon the thread again. If you want to know send a pm. Racially, I would prefer human/dwarf but could be alright with a qunari. But neither elves nor qunari really fit given the lore we have on their interaction with everyone else, plus (as I just thought), it would be another layer of "outcast" to add to the character. So yea...bring me a gay Ser Barris, Korbin, Belinda, Lysette, or any other combination of somebody and I'm totally in.
I think that's a very good question to ask. As to me personally, yes, I would argue that you can be a KISA without being attached to an order. It's just that the majority of KISA material thus far has been attached to some powerful order.
I guess, however, we really need to define what we mean by a "Knight in Shining Armor", more or less.
Just some archetypes/character ideas that I'd like to throw out that could potentially fit the bill, but are not necessarily attached to an order:
--Village blacksmith
--soldier in an army
--bodyguard
oh no a small town LADY BLACKSMITH.
now i have a new ideal romance...thanks......![]()

Pleasure to be of service, m'lady.

I've got this concept in my head of a disillusioned former Chevalier.
But the concept comes with this reserved, almost shy and vulnerable personality, and most of the outcry that I've seen for this character archetype involves someone with a wish for a keen sense of humor. I suppose a lot of jokes would be difficult to mesh with a sympathetic example of someone from an order that doesn't exactly have a stellar reputation to begin with.

Have her be a female Qunari who was part of the Qun under the Arigena but ran away. We have a Female Qunari for those who want to romance one, and a source of information about the final part of the Triumvirate's domain.

Just finished playing my own gay KISA, and I did take joy in making the 'of course I'm the Herald!' representation of everything establishment in southern Thedas a black lesbian. Josephine suited her really well, although I wish there'd been a bit more to the romance.

I'm playing a Thedosian equivalent of RL bae, and the result is quite splendid so far. Devoutly Andrastian, and a Templar who takes his duty protecting mages so strongly, he takes a refugee from Tevinter as his lover.

I'll admit, that sounds pretty romantic. ![]()

What makes it so fun is that I could totally see him in that role. The only thing I had to fudge a bit was the faith aspect, but that's because his "faith" is turned more towards the ideas and themes of the Christian faith than the dogma itself. It's like combining the facade that Blackwall was, with the hunger of Ser Barris to to good. He does have his faults though...he's quite...um, strident shall I say in how correct his views are, and can at times come off more as a commanding officer than a lover. But there is no one I'd rather have tank for me while I rain AoE spells of doom!

Got this for you:

Dono what gender you had In mind, but I would LOVE a reserved, shy, and vulnerable disillusioned former Chevalier lady KISA as an f/f LI. Someone who is disillusioned but not collapsing into bitterness, who still believes in hope and goodness even after they've seen those ideals perverted?I've got this concept in my head of a disillusioned former Chevalier.

This is so adorable! Now I need to make my own KISA.

My noble character is a mage. Just can't stop playing them. Though a KE. I can just imagine the banter with Dorian.
Dorian: You're a mage.
Inquisitor: No, really?
Dorian: You're a mage that bashes things in the face.
Inquisitor: With an intangible magic sword.
Dorian: I don't even...
Inquisitor: Magic. Intangible. Sword.
I love playing a gay KISA myself. In every game where I can choose, I always go for a tank role. It feels good to be the one who first charges into the combat, draws aggression, and protect weaker party members. Outside the combat, my character would always stand for justice and against oppression. He is often very naive though.
A shame that I can't romance my own character ![]()

You know I tease ya, Jake. I owe you a like.
I hear you about playing a tank. Now that I've really gotten back into the swing of it, it's a lot of fun. I went Champion with some Battlemaster for the taunts and armor bonuses, and it's been great so far. I went riding out in a desert on a horse with no name (aka Hissing Wastes, used a map online to get to the vendor) to get some tier 3 armor, and I have nice procs like walking bomb @ 50% weapon dmg on my armor and chain lightning at 75% on my shield. I can make things mad just by walking into them and swinging my axe a bit.
Once I kill another dragon or two, I head back out there since I have the "Short List" perk and just enough cash to burn. ![]()
More on topic, I suppose that's part of the reason why I'm enjoying the Bull romance more this time than I even did with my dwarf (as much as I love her.) Valena's more of his guardian and his knight, while he just annihilates everything in his path. The battle-hardened yet compassionate Qunari exaluting in his love for battle with his mighty two handed axe (with bloodstone and bear's leather for his look,) with his Kadan, his lady knight in shining silver and red armor with her own axe by his side. I have a dragon slaying two handed axe in storage for my next dragon kill, and the two characters killing a dragon side-by-side is freaking amazing. It makes for a wonderful balance. ![]()
I hate playing as a warrior, which is the main reason I'm hoping my next main love interest is one. He'd never mess up my party dynamics. I have a very strong rogue preference, so it hasn't been too bad, but on the occasions I do play as a mage it definitely felt like Anders and Dorian don't give me very much party flexibility.

Rogue is my favorite class too, so that's another reason why I'd like a gay KISA companion/LI. I need a good strong warrior to watch my guy's back on the field, plus the added dynamic of the relationship between a bad boy rogue PC with a goody-two-shoes warrior guy is something I'd really like to see.
I've been fortunate in that I like pretty much all of the warrior companions we've had thus far. The mages too. I've also been fortunate in that most of the companions I'm 'meh' about and tend not to take with me have been rogues, and since my PC fulfills the rogue spot in the party on most playthroughs, I don't typically have issues that arise from the lack of a rogue.

I like playing mages the best so it's one of the reasons I'd like a gay KISA companion too. I seem to have been lucky enough to like at least one rogue a game to fill that spot for me on the team too, though I play rogue before warrior as well so it helps to have at least one likeable mage for rogue playthroughs too... which is where I struggled in DA2 after act 1 since I preferred Bethany out of the mages... no wonder I never finished rogue and warrior Hawkes. ![]()
Also I'm now really keen on the idea of a Qunari lady blacksmith who picks up one of her weapons to defend her village and just never puts it down again because the fight to save her village leads her to wanting to save others too. I love this thread, it has the best ideas ![]()
