Isn't Harding flirtable by all?

Oh yeah, I totally forgot about her. I'm slipping!

I don't really account Oghren's opinion in the matter. As you said he has quite the dirty mind and plainly past out of excitement at the mere mention of a threesome between Isabella, Leliana and the female HoF. The amount of straight guys fantasising over lesbian couples doesn't make a good measuring tool for LGBT openness.

I think his opinion on Branka was something like... "well, I could've made adjustments". He was actually being serious for a second. Not just fantasizing.

Speaking of dwarven KISA's appearance, here's how I'd like him to look like (I'm not a big fan of beards tbh)

I took inspiration from previous daveliam's avatar :>

Spoiler

A dwarf day KISA is strong in this thread. (Extra points for those fierce eyes)

Not to sound ungrateful but if we did have a KISA, can he's just happened to be gay instead of the storyline being revolved around that part of him? Steve's entire story is about his gay husband and get over his death then Dorian is about him being rejected by his parents for being gay. I want an everyday guy who just happens to be gay. A "sneaky" gay if you will. Someone who may mention about dating or have attraction to the same gender but don't define by their sexuality. Lesbians in generally have been avoiding this troop. Sera and Samantha's characters don't have anything to do with them being. They both mention about their sexual attractions to the same gender like how other straight characters like Varric do.

While there is nothing wrong with having a gay KISA's quest and story revolving around their sexuality (imo), I think Bioware should diversify those stories and personal quests. So yes, I would prefer the story/quest of the next gay character, KISA or not, to be not about their sexuality.

Also, +10 approval for mentioning Samantha. I really like her.

I don't think the next gay male companion needs to have his sexuality be part of the focus of his companion quest again.  I would be fine if he mentions it - a past relationship or something ( unless dead former lover, that's been done already).

Although, how would you guys feel if the next lesbian companion had her sexuality be the focus of her arch?  It hasn't really happened before with a female bisexual or lesbian character in DA or ME.

Thinking about dwarves and sexuality makes me think of the Tyddra story... because she was a powerful female lesbian leader who won the loyalty of the dwarves and in fact, married and conceived a child with a dwarf to preserve her line and cement their alliance (and he was totally cool with that being political).

also Tyrdda could be read as a lady KISA (interestingly enough she is eventually revealed to actually be a mage). I freaking love those Codex entries, even before you get into all the theory crafting "is her lover Mythal/who is Thelm", just for being an epic about a kickass lady Avaar and her elven sky goddess lover, haha.

Mixed.  On the one hand if could be very well done like Dorian's story.  On the other, I guess I'm a little weary of LGBT characters in media having so much of their story revolve around some sort of drama or conflict with their sexuality.  Plus, the writers got really creative with Dorian, and I'm not sure how they would address that again.

Off topic: I'm going to see Garth Brooks tonight.  My husband surprised me with the tickets.  I'm a metalhead and a former goth, but Garth is awesome.   :P

I'm kind of mixed.  If we look historically, there have been 10 s/s LI's.  Of them, only 4 of them have had their sexuality play a role (and by 'play a role', I simply mean that it is mentioned or alluded to) in their personal quests:  Zevran, Leliana, Anders, and Dorian.  Of the rest, 3 of them have strong references to their sexuality through banter and cut scenes:  Isabela, Sera, and Iron Bull.  The other 3 don't really have any mention or quests that involve their sexuality:  Fenris, Merrill, and Josephine.  So, to be honest, it's a pretty even bag so far.

I am not as personally invested in the lesbian representation, so my thoughts would defer on the lesbian and bisexual ladies on the forums say.  But, to me, it seems as if a fair amount of the f/f audience was disappointed with their options in DA: I.  Part of the reason, from what I've seen, is that the f/f romances had almost no references to be lesbian or bisexual at all.  So, while my gut is that I'd like to see them take a break from having sexuality playing a role for s/s options, I also understand why some might want to see an unabashedly open lesbian character whose story somehow relates to her sexuality.

I'd rather it not, personally. I think we got enough of that whole deal with Dorian.

No I don't want the next lesbian/bi lady's story to be about her sexuality. I don't think Dorian's is, or rather I'd say it's not the focus, but I would still prefer not to have that be the angle and I don't think it will be.

I don't see how they could make it a huge backstory with the Empress being a lesbian (or bi not sure which) and people aren't shocked at that, they're shocked it's an elf.

So I was trying to think of a gay KISA that's not Dorian even though I think he is, but why can't it be sort of like Ser Loras and him be a Chevalier.  He could have like pledged himself to chastity in order to be a better warrior in the field (kind of like Lancelot) and maybe he is forced out of the ring and on a mission where he experiences real life sort of like Alastair was a virgin until he was stuck camping out.

You probably said that already.  I'm just in GoT mode tonight.  Again.

I could get behind a "Ser Loras" knight type with the back story that you mentioned.  I don't know enough about Chevaliers, but there was a discussion here recently that I missed about why they are apparently not so nice.  But I could still see something like that.

One idea that I had recently when I was thinking of it (I love trying to come up with ideas for this gay KISA) was around the Grand Tourney in the Marches.  Apparently, this tourney is a big deal.  I don't think we're totally done in the Marches yet, so maybe there could be a quest where the PC has to win the Grand Tourney in order to receive a boon or audience with an influential Marcher and his/her greatest rival is a gay KISA type who, when you best him/her, s/he pledges him/herself to your quest.  That could be kind of cool.  Like a Loras or Brienne type (I'm also stoked about GoT starting up soon).

You know, I often wonder (since the books are way old) if Cassandra wasn't influenced by Brienne.

But yes, maybe he was the best Chevalier so he's ticked that you bested him and you have a semi-rivalmance.

I'd rather it didn't tbh. They took a risk with Dorian's quest and it paid off, sure. Personally, while I love games to be representative and realistic, they're also my escapism. This is just my opinion, and it's probably a silly one. :) However, my reason is simple: I had so much angst in my real life with coming to terms with being gay that being able to escape into this fantasy world where sexuality just isn't an issue is awesome. Anyone read the Sexuality in Thedas Codex...? :) I was kinda sad that Tevinter is the way it is, but hey, it's Tevinter. ;) Plus they're obsessed with bloodlines so it makesa sad sort of sense. And I know when the rest of Southern Thedas isn't as laissez-faire as Orlais, but it's still not a problem.

It's not that I don't enjoy stories, either real or imagined, that are true to the reality of being LGBT in real life - I do. But in BioWare games I have this little world where it just doesn't matter one bit, and I like that. It probably sounds daft as I actually love realistic, gritty, even sometimes grimdark in games. But that's my two cents.

Hmm I'm a little mixed on that on the one hand I would be worried that it would come off as too similar to Dorian's arch and being somewhat closeted myself at home I'm not sure I would like the angle all that much, on the other hand it could be approached differently and be something new on its own. I suppose if they were careful about making it its own thing it could be interesting but I won't be begging to see something like that if that makes any sense. Ancestors I can already picture the awkward family 'talk' I would get if they caught something like Dorian's arch on a game I played, course I might get that ****** talk anyway for the mere fact that romances exist in these games :lol:

I don't think it should be about his or her sexuality either. I like the Grand Tourney idea (I had been toying with how to include origin stories for the next game, and this was one of the human ones).

There aren't that many angles you can come at wrt to sexuality as a conflict in Thedas. We have political/lineage covered with Dorian, and then vows, which was already covered too (with Sebastian). Sure you could do another spin on those and have it be unique, but ehhh.

Also personally for me I would rather have a working woman's KISA, not tied to a higher order. (Unless it's Mother Giselle, of course, then I support it. Yes Dave, I will always remember this :P)

I hear you there, but I do enjoy the Grand Tourney idea.  What I was thinking was not only would that be a cool thing for all players to see, it could also give a chance to make the KISA's sexuality known in a subtle way.  Such as a flirt option for the male PC to give them a token of their favor.  If the PC isn't interested in a romance, then show the KISA giving a caprice coin to an adoring man in the crowd.

After literally an hour in line, with virtual tickets, the concert was underwhelming.  Garth was good, but he started playing his new stuff.  Which..isn't.  Got home early, but I'm not complaining.

Yes, yes, yes! That's totally what I was thinking of, with the favours and the subtle rivalry.

Now we've got:

* Legion of the Dead dwarf KISA
* Nevarran Dragon Hunter KISA
* Qunari Lady Blacksmith KISA
* Grand Tourney Rival KISA

Hell, if we keep this up, we can have an entire game of nothing BUT gay KISA characters!

I'd have quite liked a lady Templar KISA previously, but guess that depends on if we still have any. ;) I think even in Leliana's Chantry, you'd still need some sort of military force.
