Well, the giant Avvar guy we can recruit kind of has some metal bits on his chest and arms.

(Too bad they took away his ginger goatee in the game.  He looks so much better here in his Alpha version. )

I thought he was cool as ****.  I just thought you wanted more of a...dignified KISA?

Well, the guys we meet in game are kind of vigilante, but there has to be some good, honorable individuals too.  Maybe.

He/she wouldn't be a literal knight, but if they had the personality, I think it could work.

No, no, i'm for it because I like a barbarian/wildling.  Giantsbane (to me) is one of the hottest dudes to ever come out of GoT.

And a ginger at that.

Just bouncing ideas around and wanted to see what others thought.

I agree that it would be hard to make an Avvar fit the KISA trope, but the writers could work some magic. Who knows.

Bioware likes to subvert tropes.  A gentle, chivalrous, "barbarian" would be something I wouldn't put past them tackling.

That would be interesting, also I don't think I've seen a gay barbarian.  If you have point me to him because I need some novel food.

I am trying to work in a gay viking.

I mean, I'm not trying to ruin your thread with adding gay barbarians to it, but...I've never seen one is all.

Ser Loras and Oberyn were the closest things to gay sword wielders I've ever seen....well, no...Alexander (the movie).

Nevermind I think I blocked out Alexander because they left out the siege of Tyre.  One of the coolest battles of all ancient history and not even a hint of it in the movie.

Silly Zobert.

Gay barbarians couldn't possibly ruin anything.

Well, besides their unfortunate enemies.

I like a barbarian plus...not to diss your KISA because we want what we want...sometimes a KISA seems "soft" whereas a barbarian hacking the crap out of **** seems more...ohhhh, I'm going to take heat for this but...manly?

And it would blow out a stereotype about gay guys to make them a Tormund Giantsbane type that is willing to pull someone's "guts out through their mouth".

While I want a KISA, I would certainly not be opposed to a gay barbarian.  He'd at least be a warrior. He'd certainly be badass.

(Or she. A lady barbarian would be just as amazing and badass.)

BTW, have you seen this thread, dear?

It was created pre-lauch.  Apparently BioWare listens to this guy/girl.

Not to blow your KISA but the more I think about a gay (M/F) barbarian the cooler I think it would be.

The Avaar seem to have their own code about what is honourable or not and they certainly follow it as well as any other order so why not a KISA from the Avaar that plays with the trope but still follows it well enough. I mean if the moral compass is good, and they're honourable warriors who fight in armour that's a start right and the Avaar have different gods/religions so it would be interesting to see how such a character might differ from the Andrastian knights too. If not a KISA maybe a character to go alongside a KISA then? (I'd totally like a female barbarian type ;)).

Also since we're asking about warriors of other lands the wiki says that in Rivain and Antiva their warriors tend to be duelists who like lighter armour and more movement and flexibility than the heavily armoured chevaliers, would a warrior (not a rogue, an actual warrior) from one of those countries in shiny light armour with a good moral compass count as a KISA? I'm curious since I read that chevaliers practice specific training to take them on with and that makes them a formidable opponent, would such a warrior also count or do they need a knightly order or something else?

I like that this thread not only comes up with fantastic ideas for KISA companion/LIs but also leads to other character ideas to go with various parts of the themes (or in general) as well.  :D

Good points in your first paragraph about the Avaar! :) As for your other points about Rivain, etc, I would think so. I'm a bit iffy about Chevaliers myself. While they are completely obsessed with "honour", I don't think they necessarily are. Sure, every order or organisation has bad eggs, but it seems to be sanctioned or ignored - the "graduation" ceremony where they attack elves, the fact they can get away with rape etc with impunity (as per convo with Orlesian lady in Denerim Market in DA:O)...that shizz ain't honourable!

I can't take the abbreviation "KISA" itself seriously because of this bozo...

Spoiler

So you're gonna have to pardon me if I call this character archetype something else.

Also, months after clocking the game, I'm pleasantly surprised this thread is still up and running.

Oh I agree that chevaliers aren't honourable in my opinion and because of those things you mentioned I think it would be very difficult to have a chevalier KISA, their opponents however might be a very different thing but I only learned about the duelists because in the chevalier wiki it mentioned how they have to specially train to fight such a different style of warrior (I was looking for info on the 'graduation ceremony' as I hadn't read the books and wanted to be sure what I'd read elsewhere on forums was backed up somewhere).

The duelists were kind of a bonus discovery and got me thinking about whether they'd count as a KISA... it also makes me think that's where Isabela learned the discipline but starting with a rogue background she adapted it to suit her. ;)

I can't think of any gay barbarians as well.  The closest that I can think of is Ragnar from the Viking TV show.  The only reason why he comes up is because in the first season, he captures a Briton priest and takes him back to their village.  Once there, he (the priest) stays with Ragnar and his family for the first few nights.  During that time, Ragnar and his wife are in bed together, getting busy, and they stop and invite the priest to join them.  Ragnar was equally interested in this; not just his wife, which hints at him being bisexual.  The priest declined (!!!) despite both Ragnar and Lagertha being some of the best looking people I've ever seen!  They never really touch on this aspect from Ragnar again, but I've never forgotten it and it got my wheels turning thinking about what a bisexual or gay viking would be like as a character.  I don't think he'd fit the KISA archetype, but it would certain be something I'd be interested in seeing in from an Avvar companion at some point.

You know I do remember that he and his wife were going to do a threesome or something.

btw, I know this is actual history and it can't be changed, but I still think that Lagertha was ten times better than that boney freak he took up with.

Historians will confirm she existed and is the only female warrior that they are 100% sure about versus mythos.  I watched this program on women warriors and when they got to her I was like--I know that ******!

God I love The Vikings.

Where was I...?

Oh yeah, but I'm not sure that Vikings were "barbarians" because they had a pretty organized culture.  The Scots/Picts/Celts were more barbarians because they were tribal decentralists and ohmygodimanerd.

I'll be quiet now.  **chirp chirp**

Forgive the off topic, but wasn't that the episode where the priest is on magic mushrooms?

No, its the first week the priest is with them.  The magic mushrooms is when they go on a religious pilgrimage.

Bisexual avvar scout (dual wield rogue?) who looks like this to be the other m/m romance?  The perfect counter-point to our gay KISA.  ;)

The island I grew up on has a shrine near a beach. It was the site where Harrald Hårfagre (Fairhair) finally cut his hair after having conquered the whole of Norway and made it into one kingdom. He had vowed not to cut his hair until that was done.

I'm a little too far down the Kinsey scale to appreciate Lagertha that way, but I did model my lady Inquisitor after her!  It really worked, despite her being a dwarf, especially in her first iteration, when she was sword/shield.

I didn't even know that there was a WOW movie.  Meh.

That's mostly me.  I'm sorry.  I have a thing for crystal blue eyes.  It's because I have beady dark little eyes (like Jon Snow), so I find them just gorgeous to look at.  Like unicorns.  Sexy eyed unicorns.  Wait.......what?
