So I was kind of digging the convo that Elu and Nata were having yesterday about what kind of KISA's we might find in different regions of Thedas that we might visit in future games.

Nevarra - Dragon Hunter

Kal-Shirok - Rock-Knocker

Free Marches - Grand Tourney Combatant

Tevinter - Centurian, Gladiator

Rivain - Royal Admiral, Qunari Lady Blacksmith (I think she'd be perfect for Kont-aar, the one friendly Qunari outpost on the continent)

That leaves the Anderfels and Antiva.  And maybe Seheron.

We've got the writers covered man!  Regardless of where they go, we have an idea for them!

Anderfels would have to be a Grey Warden.

Antiva can be a knight that serves the monarchy of Antiva.

Seheron I already suggested a Fog Warrior.

History major, not just a buff   :)

in any event, I'm kinda tired with Mediterranean based civs in DA, Orlais, Antiva, Nevarra, the Free Marches, all have elements of it, I'd like to see more central European inspired realms, like i imagine the Anderfells to be

Huh. I'll be damned. Is the medieval time period your specific concentration? Cause that's usually where I see you chiming in with historical insight.

Anything between Classical Greece and the Reformation is fair game for my interest.

Medieval history just tends to come up in DA for obvious reasons

Very cool. I've always had a strong interest in history, since my dad teaches grade school World History. I absolutely enjoyed taking several history courses since I've been in college as well.

Tangential learning is my favorite kind of learning.  Please, continue to compare nations of Thedas to our world.  This is fascinating to me, since I'm also into history.  :D

I've always had a major attraction to the Greeks and Romans. As a kid, I used to pick up books from my grade school library, detailing the Greek and Roman pantheon of deities, which really turbocharged my interest. Stories of Hellenic era were absolutely enthralling to me. Other than that, I'm a major fan of Egyptian history, as well as the Catholic Reformation (since I'm Catholic, I find it very interesting as well).

Would the Fereldens before they were united under King Calahad be comparable to the Anglo-Saxon English?

not really, Anglo-Saxon England only arose after Rome decided they didn't fancy England after all.  And it wasn't a loose patchwork of tribes, there were several defined Kingdoms (Mercia, Wessex, and Northumbria) that were coalesced into a single nation under the descendents of Alfred the Great

It's different than most history books, in that the author is seeking to write a narrative history, not a pure recollection of facts.

I think its really interesting, and the writing style grew on me.  Also Byzantine history would make GRR Martin queasy

Sounds like the old Ferelden people to me. Tevinter let go of them, the tribes organized into small kingdoms of arls who supported even higher kingdoms of teyrnirs whom under King Calahad were coalesced into a single nation: the kingdom of Ferelden.

it takes a while to get accustomed to the writing style, but learning about 'The White Death of the Saracen' or 'The Bulghar Slayer' along with more well known figures like Constantine the Great. Justinian I, or interesting but less known figures like Empress Irene (wonderful human being that she was)

Eh, it's a mixture of Spain and Italy, more so Italy.

How do we explain Zevran's accent then?  Spain has fish markets and great fish soup.

It's really more so Italy because of how Antiva is run. Italy, or more specifically Italian city states. Italy up to the nineteenth century defied centralized government for the most part, with the landmass of modern Italy divided into city states run by powerful merchant families, and the Papal States, under the direct rule of the Pope. There a reason "The Merchant of Venice" is a big thing by Shakespeare - Venecian merchant consortiums, together with other wealthy psuedo-dynasties, exerted far greater power over Europe and Eurasia than one would ordinarily expect from such a small territory, land wise.

Getting back to Dragon Age, according to the wiki and Zevran, Antiva is run by similar powerful merchant princes - Prince Azrin, etc. Each prince fields their own army and uses the threat of a third-party force to keep outsiders wary - for the real-life Italian merchants, it was the threat of hiring large mercenary armies, for Antiva, the Crows. Machiavelli himself wrote about the dangers of putting too much trust in the hands of hired mercenaries - they were that popular in his time. Of course Italian city states, just like Antiva, were conquered by outside powers occasionally nonetheless - see the history of HRE Frederick I Barbarossa for my favourite story, where the man himself was so irritated at the lack of cooperation from the Pope he crowned his own "Anti-Pope" and sacked his way through the Italian Peninsula. :)

Oooo, do you think Antiva has condottieri? Now that could be an excellent source of gay KISAs ...

I think that role was filled by the Antivan Crows. Zevran mentions on of his jobs was him and an army of Crows attacking a castle, acting more like soldiers than assassins.

The standards for KISA are rapidly extending beyond the mesosphere. I fear this height too great a distance for most KISA to survive. Cullen, Alistair, Cassandra and Aveline will perish in the emptiness of space with such standards. Only Lord Woolsley in all his majesty can survive.

Lord Woolsley

But yeah, at this point I am okay with a KISA to be in lawful neutral territory. With my moral standard in DA world, I consider a very few characters "good". A lot of names mentioned in this thread do not fit into my good category, but at least they are not evil.

On the subject of virginity, I don't care how much sex a gay KISA had before, as long as he will stay faithful in a current relationship, it is fine by me.

I have not been lurking proper as I should be (keep stalking my own emails waiting for the rp that my KISA prototype is in instead) so I apologize if this has been brought up and that this is also a very small and very and I mean VERY stupid thing to ask about but, would anyone really prefer the KISA to be more no nonsense type of person or have a bit of a sense of humor to them? (Yes like i said stupid thing to ask) Personally I prefer it if LIs have some kind of humor to them so I would really dig having a KISA with a very dry sense of humor.
