Honestly, it's not that serious.  It's okay to lighten up a bit or, at the very least, allow others to enjoy humor without damping the conversation.

No, it's not okay. Laughing at the suffering of others is something that should never be seen as funny.

"Once they figure a way to work a dead horse, we'll be next. Likely I'll be the first too. 'Edd,' they'll say, 'dying's no excuse for laying down no more, so get on up and take this spear, you've got first watch tonight.' Well, I shouldn't be so gloomy. Might be I'll die before they work it out."

"I never win anything," Dolorous Edd complained. "The gods always smiled on Watt, though. When the wildlings knocked him off the Bridge of Skulls, somehow he landed in a nice deep pool of water. How lucky was that, missing all those rocks?"

"Was it a long fall?" Grenn wanted to know. "Did landing in the pool of water save his life?"

"No," said Dolorous Edd. "He was dead already, from that axe in his head. Still, it was pretty lucky, missing the rocks."

No idea who this person is but I would love a mix of dark and dry like that, that kind of humor is right up my ally maybe not totally fitting for a KISA though.

I feel like the people who get really uppity at a but of dark humor have never experienced trauma. Or, rather, not the kind of trauma being poked at in the joke. In my experience, people who have gone through something similar to what's being joked about are more able to take the joke, because they've faced the reality of whatever is happening, and humor is a good coping tool.

Seriously, go to a cancer ward in a hospital and talk to some of the patients. They make a LOT of cancer jokes. Hell, my brother and his son both have tumors in their brain stems and they both do it.

I've been through plenty of trauma, and I still don't see it as funny. So get off your high horse by saying "Oh, these people who don't find it funny just don't understand because they haven't experienced it."

On topic:

I do think that a little humor is necessary for a good KISA character.  Otherwise, they are a little one-dimensional for my liking.  I'd rather not see flippant, silly humor again, since we've gotten that a few times.  Dry humor might be a nice way to go.

Okay, good for you. That doesn't make the humor any less funny, nor does it make the people who crack the jokes bad people for finding humor in trauma. That's why humor is subjective. Being able to see the light through the darkness should be seen as a talent, not as something bad or wrong.

Dry humor is good.

I'd even be okay if the KISA wasn't intentionally trying to be funny, but said or did things that still come across as funny.  Perhaps in a clueless or naive way. Not to say that I want a clueless or unintelligent KISA, because I definitely would prefer that he and/or she be smart.

No, there's not. They have already gone to posting stupid gifs so there is no point.

Nonsense.

At any rate, Hanako is free to discuss whatever.

Especially after the way I derailed the Demisexuality thread the other week.

As long as it is also clean and decent humor, then I'm all for it.

They can be smart but maybe not street smart, leading to the types of scenarios you want.

Thank you.

Though part of me misses the derailing arguments when it had constructive discussions as well. It kept it on the front page. Now since Allan replied, barely anyone has replied. :(

If we want dry humor, then we should petition Bioware to make Jimmy Carr a companion and romance in DA4. Would buy the game twice for that.

The only clean jokes I know of are really painful dad jokes. And I say this knowing way more adult and dirty dad jokes than clean ones. Clean humor sucks, like really bad, for the most part. Like it tries to tackle potentially uncomfortable issues, but it skirts around it at the last second and shoots itself in the foot.

On the topic of humor, I'm rather fond of visual humor.

If that's "indecent", then I'll eat my hat.

Joke's on you though, I don't own any hats.

If you really think that's indecent, then I feel really, REALLY sorry for you.

Whatever you do, don't watch this (goes without saying, but NSFW):

Laughing about the death of others is objectively not funny. Anyone who does has issues.

I disagree.  Sometimes the dead person would want it that way.  My grandfather wrote that he wanted no one to cry at his funeral and to make things as funny as possible so my father (this is his father now) asked during the memorial if he could have the suit when his father was done with it.

Everyone is different.  I want no one moping at my death.

In your world, in the world where the rest of us live sometimes you dull the suffering by showing the humor in it.  Cancer patients do this all the time, where they joke about their disease.

Should people dwell in gloom or live?

Clean humor can be funny. If you're talking standup. Seinfeld was every bit as funny as his peers. For example. And Cosby back in the day.

Not that has anything to do with the topic at hand though. I don't know what you guys are talking about. Aill I know is there's a time for all kinds of humor.

Finishing up Sparticus, and remembering an exchange about tragic gay romances or ones that end in death on this thread. Well, (big spoilers) the only couple to come out alive and healthy by the end of Sparticus is Agron and Nasir! I thought everyone was going to die, but the creators spared this couple.  Agron and Nasir both had some KISA qualities. Agron is very much a man's man, too.

Anyway maybe next DA game Bioware can aspire to something similar in quality.

I was very pleasantly surprised when Agron and Nasir not only both survived (I thought for sure that Agron was going to die with the rest of the major characters), but that they were the only rebel couple to make it out unscathed (well, alive really, not necessarily unscathed).  Agron was super swoon-worthy.  I was totally hooked on this show (for obvious reasons) and really found myself getting into the characters despite fairly awful writing and acting and cheese-tastic fight scenes.  I don't really see either of them as KISAs (any of the rebels, really), but it's a great example of two male warriors in a romantic, loving relationship with each other.

Spoilers for pic spamming of this adorable gay warrior couple.  These boys were not shy with their affection for each other.

Spoiler
