Josephine doesn't have a sex scene and it works out alright.

I'll try to avoid launching a debate over the special snowflake sexualities.

I was speaking for my own personal preference.  I like having sex scenes and nudity in the romances, so I would prefer to see one for the KISA too, but I'd be fine with it either way.

I'm all for a gay knight in shining armor or a lesbian knight in shining armor. Simply because being a knight in shining armor is about putting duty, honor, loyalty and respect above pretty much everything else. A gay man or lesbian woman is just as capable of doing that as a straight man or woman.

Well, in terms of a cutscene that I would personally like to see, maybe that romantic night on the water, just the two of you. Maybe just sit there and watch the stars.

Thanks for coming in!  It's also a nice bonus that this post is coming from a poster calling themselves John Wayne.  ;)

Oh, I would really enjoy that.  I think the part I liked the most about Cullen's romance was the date out on the lake.

Wow!  We got John Wayne's approval!  Go us!

My favorite Bioware scene of all time is the Kaidan/mShep date night in the Citadel DLC.  He cooks steaks and you drink beer and just hang out and talk and cuddle.  It was genius and I want more of that.

Then I want to see Maj. Alenko without his pants!  ;)

Individual opinions and beliefs do not spring fully formed from the aether a priori. Beliefs are the product of culture and personal experience, and at a very high level like "revulsion" are very aptly called social. It's just ridiculous to say otherwise.

What's ridiculous is continually faulting 'society' for such problems, as if it's a giant evil floating brain in the sky that is the source of all meanness and injustice in the world, as no shortage of people do. It's an act of petty cowardice so people can pretend they don't depend on the people they hate. So when I say, for example, that I do not and will not find men feminine in any desirable sense, people advocating for the 'equality' of transgenders can curse at me and tell me how little my stance matters and whatnot. And they get to pretend that my stance doesn't matter because they envision it ensconced within 'society,' as some otherworldly object that exists outside the minds of me and people like me. Because the alternative is admitting that they need me and people like me. And they despise that. Which is why being denied my approval makes them so angry in the first place.

Of course it's social. All that means is a lot of people identify with it. It wouldn't be an issue if they didn't.

Speaking of which, I would argue that the revulsion in question is very low level, not high level. Very base. Why is it, do you think, that so many horror stories give the male psychopath very feminine dialogue and mannerisms? Why is the guy in Silence of the Lambs obsessed with becoming a woman?

Because it's scary.

How come?

Took too much liberty with my character. For example despite an entire trilogy of avoiding any alcohol consumption moment they assume my character drinks alcohol.

The fact that BioWare is given this kind of praise for thematically bankrupt filler is quite possibility behind how incompetent the writing in Inquisition was.

Why even bother to go through the work of building any of the fundamentals behind a successful narrative if all you have to do is put in lots of cuddles and have it called 'the best scene of all time' and 'genius'?

Immersion. Roleplaying. Emotional connection. All that good stuff.

That said, how would you have done Kaidan's romance in a narrative sense?

Agreed. If we each of us creates a list of traits associated with femininity and masculinity, I am sure our lists will be quite different. That's why when I discuss traits of characters or persons, I tend to avoid the whole femininity/masculinity categorization.

For a gay KISA, I will not say that he should not have any feminine traits. Rather, I would just say that "this specific trait is not what I want." and avoid the whole femininity/masculinity thing altogether.

Also I would like to a gay KISA to have some amount of sensitivity: not in a way that he would get offended easily. But in a way that he would be emotionally affected by other people's suffering and injustice. (I am not sure "sensitive" is the right word to describe this trait here.)

The more aggressive and contentious this discussion becomes the more enthusiastically I agree that on an online forum, it might be more productive to leave it alone altogether.

I'm a little down about it, though, because it's one of the only contributions I feel that I can make to the discussion. I took a few semesters of film studies, and analyses of the portrayal of women in media is an interest of mine. I enjoy discussing it, but it never seems to go smoothly at all.

To be fair, though, most discussions online don't.

Duh. Men are revolted by other men who dress, speak, or act in a feminine manner.

Actually to a real man, that wouldn't matter. A real man would be comfortable with his own sexuality so that it wouldn't bother him. An insecure boy would have issues with it. Also, being a real man has everything to do with how you  carry yourself, treat others and your actions.

A real man stands up for what they know is right, even if it means standing alone.

A real man is quick to help and protect those who needed it

A real man only judges someone by their actions and how they treat people

A real man strives to be a good role model for those around them

A real man is dependable and their word is their bond

A real man does whats necessary and if it means making the hardest decision possible or a unpopular one

A real man respects women, period

A real man is mature and respectable

I could sit here for the next hour and continue to type out what makes a real man, a man. But I simply do not have the time. So I'll close with this, Just because you are male and 18 or older does not mean you are a man. It is also 100% possible for a woman or gay man to be more of a man all of the males around them. Because being a real man has little to nothing to do with being able to  grow a beard or having something dangling between your legs.

Well... no, I have to disagree. Being a real man just means identifying as one. Real men can be totally lacking in all of the qualities you mentioned, because they have nothing whatsoever to do with "manliness," whatever the living hell that's supposed to be.

As much as I am tempted to stir up more heated discussion, it just won't end nicely. I kind of want this thread to continue so we'd have more discussions and share more ideas of what we'd like to see in a character we don't almost ever see. And personally, I'd like to save myself from being ban-hammered.

Yeah, this thread has some really great conversations.  But I'd rather see it avoid any 'heat' and, unfortunately, I think the ideas of "masculinity v. femininity" and "real men" are just too "hot" and will end up going in nasty places.

Boy, for someone attempting to defend 'unconventional' men, that sure is a homoerotic insult. Basically saying the only people who would care about this are men fixated with men being men. 'Insecure,' in that they of course secretly desire to seduce their male friends and despise feminine men out of jealously for being able to embrace their deeply buried fantasies of men, men, men.

Calling them gay, basically. With the implication of how laughable a thing that is.

Drivel.

Yep. If it were any other forum, you can just go to town, but here? On the BSN forums? The mods are watching.

Either we want this thread to continue with another topic or if this gets locked after much off topic... debate, then we'll have to open a new one.

I had the farmboy to knight-in-training schtick going, but for a time, I did want to see something from the Seekers. But Cassandra had that taken care of, so I'm thinking that would be redundant if it's in the next game.
