Meh, she's good looking I guess. How is her voice acting?

People have said much odder while being serious on here hard to tell much for me to begin with when some one is joking, and only made harder over text. Sorry about that.

It's fine.

I still want my gay Avvar, so I guess he'd be my KISA for choice. Although I haven't gotten to play Hakkon yet (  ), so I can't really conjecture at any back story since the lore about them has obviously been expanded upon.

I was looking through the DA wiki about them to get a better idea of what they're like. All I remember from the game concerning their appearance apart from their tribal wear is that they're huge. When World of Thedas 2 comes out, hopefully they'll go into more detail.

The fact that BioWare is given this kind of praise for thematically bankrupt filler is quite possibility behind how incompetent the writing in Inquisition was.

Why even bother to go through the work of building any of the fundamentals behind a successful narrative if all you have to do is put in lots of cuddles and have it called 'the best scene of all time' and 'genius'?

Oh David, angry that people have different tastes than him.

In the interest of sanity, I agree. I'll leave the post there so yours makes sense, but you're right that I should know better. :)

I've been thinking on that front. It's hard IMO to draft an NPC that works, and I'd really like a story that has no ties with their sexuality. With the caveat that I have my own views on who ought to be a KISA (i.e., I'd prefer a bi-guy, but thoroughly masculine, to combat that particular stereotype, which I suppose the IB kind of helps with given the IB/Dorian swing, but I don't think is prominent enough) but I think I can write something neutral on gender.

I don't like regular knightly orders (e.g. the Chevaliers). I'd rather something more exotic or atypical. For example:

- Avar warrior turned Tevinter slave/gladiator.

- Ancient elven warrior, revived and joining the party.

- Tevinter [insert fictional equivalent to the Praetorian].

I think an interesting story for the KISA is about values. Stay true to what you believe, the ideals of the trope, or leave it behind for something else (e.g. anti-hero-esque qualities). Something tied with their past that forces them to choose between the ideals and, say, passion.

To me, a KISA is all about embodying a kind of ideal. And to me the interesting journey to tell in that is one of temptation. And if I were writing it (since this is an RPG and we want choice) I would have it be that without the PC, the KISA is and always will be a KISA - no help needed to be the noble hero, despite the struggle. Instead the PC can use the friendship (or romance) to lead the KISA away from that ideal. Which of course casts the unsupportive PC more in the villain temptor role, but in that regard I think the only players who would be pro-temptation anyway would cast themselves in that role.

But again, this is all just me.

We don't normally agree on much of anything, but this post right here... I want to rub it all over my body.

Hopefully, the dwarf KISA would have a hella deep voice, b/c hell yes!

My dream voice acting for him is definitely Troy Baker. I love that guy. I was absolutely blown away by his VA in The Last of Us (Joel, perfect deep voice for KISA) and Far Cry 4 (Pagan Min, not so deep, but damn impressive, I can watch his cutscenes literally for hours. I think it's a good voice for human KISA.)

Cutscenes with their voices:

Hey now.  Troy is talented, and does good characters given the right writers.  It's not his fault that Kai Leng was an awful Villain Stu from the comics that was even worse than the Starbrat.  I loathe Kai Leng for several reasons, but one of the two things I liked about the character was his voice.   The other was the hair.  Kai had nice hair.

It didn't sound nearly as gravelly or forced to me as Bale's take on Batman, but YMMV.   Besides, a lot of VAs have a good range of voices, so he doesn't have to sound exactly like Kai Leng.  He could still do a good role in the games.  As long as BioWare doesn't pull something quite as ridiculous of a character as Kai was in ME3, I'm good.

Stupid Final Fantasy reject.  Imho, he's the worst thing about ME3.  More than the Starbrat, more than Cerberus becoming two dimensional cartoon villains, more than the endings.  He's terrible and should have never been in the game at all.  Some characters should stay in the EU of a game's canon.  It probably doesn't help that I'm replaying ME3 currently, but what a mistaken on the part of the devs.  <end rant>

I think the ending fiasco and Cerberus are worse than the individual character, but he's certainly not topping any best character liata

The worst part about it for me is the wasted potential for him to be like the Winter Soldier

Kai Leng failed on account of the writing of his character, not anything about his VA. Kai Leng was said to be this badass combat fighter on an equal footing with Shepard, that he could potentially beat Shepard via skill alone. But that's the thing - he's said to be that, but we're not shown that. Instead, the first time Shepard goes head to head with him, he's cheating with a gunship we can't fight (despite Shepard dealing with no less than three separate gunships in the course of ME2) and a cutscene takeover that makes fighting him ultimately an exercise in futility for the player. The second time, he's really not that much more difficult than a standard issue Cerberus Phantom. Hell, the two that drop in near the end of the fight are probably a bigger challenge and threat than he is.

But none of that is any reflection of Troy Baker's performance. Troy Baker just voiced the character, and honestly, I don't even think Kai Leng gets enough of a chance to do judge his VA performance - for all that Kai Leng gets to say, they might as well have had one of the many 'additional voices' VAs voicing him.

I'm curious. Even though technically we have already had Alistair, would any be opposed to have the KISA be royalty?

*peeks out of hidey-hole* I liked Kai Leng as a character and villain, in no small part due to Troy Baker's voice acting. *goes back into hidey-hole*

So basically something like Griffith from Berserk, except we ramp up the homoerotic undertones and take out the sociopathic tendencies.

I wouldn't oppose it, but neither would I really be for it since it's not just Alistair we've already had. We've had Sebastian (he might not be a knight, but he has the shiniest armour of all) and (technically) Cassandra too. Also, though not actually royalty and a KISA, we've already had Dorian's story revolving around his noble status, his sexuality and the resulting conflict. I'm just not sure what it could really add without rehashing old plots. After all we've had the bastard thing, the reclaim the throne thing, the I'm not interested in all this nonsense thing and the marriage/inheritance problem thing. Being nobility is fine, realistic (for lack of a better word) even, I just don't think it needs to be royalty.

Agreed. Troy Baker has astonishing range of voice. He voiced Joker in Batman: Arkham Origins which is similar to the original Joker voiced by Mark Hamill.
