I really did like Solas quite a bit, and would have been willing to tolerate the absurd proportions (because the **** is up with those shoulders?) of male elves in DA to try out the romance.

I too had some issues with the elven male body structure. My men need to have some more meat on their bones and not look like they're gonna snap like a twig from a stiff breeze.
The "super story reasons" only came up after people started asking why he was double gated.
Whether or not it only actually applied to the race gate, well who knows.

Just to clarify, I'm totally cool with the other elves being thin and lithe. I'm into that type of build.
It's moreso that the elves that I want to play as need to at least have passably broader shoulders than their waist.

Oh, I agree. He's a prejudiced *******, but I would have tried at least one romance to say I had banged the Dread Wolf.
Let's hope that those dark times won't be repeated. I really hope they do a better job with the romance reveals for the next game- if they even choose to reveal them beforehand next time. It was pretty awful the way they were revealed for DA:I.

Same. Solas is my least favorite character this time around and he would have been another to add to the long list of passes that are Bioware's m/m love interests if he had been available.
Although I don't think I could look at the male elf body model long enough to romance him even if I did like him.
Yeah, I'm not really feeling Solas. I like the idea of an erudite m/m option, but I'm glad that it wasn't Solas. He becomes an insufferable, condescending jerk when you don't have high approval with him and, frankly, I don't agree with many of his stances.
And also agreed that I'm glad that I don't have to play as an elf to get access to one of the m/m romances. I've created about a dozen elves just to try something new and I can't get passed the first trip to Haven because they are just waaaaay to skinny and hairless for my liking. My last guy was about the most attractive that I could make him and he still just didn't do it for me. I think at this rate, I'd prefer a human to an elf, just for looks alone.
Pfffft I have high approval with him nearly every game and I"m still not too fond of the guy I don't hate him but I don't like him either. So imo he's hard to like (for me at least) even with high approval from him. Probably cause I still get that racist vibe from him he is a well written one though but that speech of 'Everyone in this group is bad except for you, you are different than them' really prevents me from enjoying his character more than meh at best and strong dislike at worst

In terms of the elf point, I think that's a separate issue more tied with the poor model the DA:I elves use. I don't understand how those shoulders could ever have been something one looked at and thought "Yes, this is a form that reflects human aesthetics in a positive fashion.
While the IB is a lolnope from my POV, he at least has a body type I've seen on a human before.
