Still doing the Kaidan romance, and I'm a little over 1/2 way through ME2 with Natashina Shepard.  I did tear up slightly at the reunion at Horizon, mainly because he sounded so incredibly frustrated.  However, I'm a good kid and remaining loyal until ME3.  I did the romance in the first game and it was totally worth it.  I never disliked Kaidan, I just never really used him much.  He's grown on me a lot.  Plus, in either ME1 or ME3, put him and Liara in a party together to destroy everything in your path with biotics.  Liara plus Kaidan plus Infiltrator Shep = Undead Saren dead again in less than 90 seconds.  Anyway, Kaidan's romance actually shows a little more of his KISA side that I've noticed.

<hugs to her favorite DA thread>  At this point, I'm waiting for patch 7 to come out and then I'll be picking up the DLC and get back into DA.

Kaidan.

I hope the time goes by quickly, so you can start playing the DLC, soon. It's fun, and It's really got me warming up to the Avvar a lot more.

I don't see a reason why an armored, melee (mace & shield), cleric who is dedicated to an order and acts in a noble, chivalrous way couldn't count as a KISA.  Again, I don't think people are looking for only the most strict version of the archetype.  Most are happy with a KISA adjacent character who demonstrates most of these characteristics.

Yeah that all got way more nitpicky than I expected. I kind of think of the Knight in Shining Armor as a generic concept intended to concept a wide variety of people, and which requires neither knight nor shining armor. I would think it's something like

1. Dedicated to a purpose higher than themselves

2. Dedicated to the protection of the public realm and good

3. A highly skilled or capable fighter/commander as well as empathetic with people

4. Vanquisher of evil and the wicked

I mean basically this scene

https://youtu.be/35GUTY_Gr14?t=55s

Whether or not they take instructions from a divine entity (benevolent or otherwise) seems to just be one factor in a larger analysis that considers actions in the aggregate.

In fact I'd consider someone like Tywin Lannister to be a KISA in many respects, since he would meet most of those generic requirements. The mere fact that he can also be highly pragmatic or conniving doesn't seem to disturb the notion that on balance he is relatively focused on fulfilling a certain devotion to the realm etc.

I've always liked the Avvar, what I've gotten to see of them.  I do look forward to the DLC.  Amusingly enough, I'll be able to do a much prettier character.  I've picked up some tricks after the last session of ME1.  Like making the philtrum gap much smaller, setting the eyes a little wider apart, ect.  In the meantime, I've got my screenshot album to work on and Natashina's ME2 session.

OT:  I'm playing around online and have Cold Case on in the background and my ears perk up immediately when I hear that familiar voice:  Raphael Sbarge!  Made me immediately think of this thread.

Sidenote:  He was most certainly NOT a KISA in this episode.

That was the first time I saw him in something... I have to say he didn't look at all like I expected... admittedly I'm not sure what I expected but it wasn't how he appeared and behaved in that episode and so not a KISA either. On the other hand he's a really good actor.  :D

Er... and back on topic I'm not overly concerned with whether the KISA has a lord or a god or niether to have given allegiance to, as long as they are dedicated to helping and protecting others, do so while sticking to a morally good code and have a habit of saving puppy dogs and kittens and people with a warrior's skill sets I'm thinking they're pretty much there. I don't think they should have had a time when they did otherwise but a conflict where they find their deity or lord doesn't match with what they thought they were serving could be very interesting indeed.

Since people have been mentioning cleric types and 'gods',  how does everyone feel about the KISA being Andrastian?  Almost all of the very devout companions have been straight in the past, with Leliana being the exception.  Would you like to see a gay KISA who is devout?  Would you rather they not be devout, or not Andrastian at all?

That'll really depend on how this trait of being devout is delivered.

If we're keeping to this idea of this knight being virtuous, principled, and well-meaning (amongst other associated traits), and this knight is devoutly Andrastian, I could see it delivered in a way that they display a certain "elitist" mindset that usually comes with the most devout members of religious groups in the real world. "Oh, you're Dalish and worship your pantheon? That's okay, Andraste's light shall guide you." They don't mean harm by it, but you could see how it could be taken the wrong way?

I mean, it'll be a great character to write about, and it leaves room for a story about whether this knight should follow his faith or should follow his heart (given certain circumstances). Not sure if they'll be well-received.

...If we're talking about a knight devoted to Dalish religion, well...

Well the vast majoirty of humans in Thedas are either Andrastian or whatever the Tevinters call themselves. So most of the ideas I've seen would probably mean they would at least believe in the Maker. And I don't mind them being devout either. But with we've had one every game, and that's the only thing that I dislike about it. Some of the less traditional interpretations of the idea could be interesting with a devout character. And by that I largely mean a non-human KISA. I just want a fresh perspective, or at least one that's highly relevant to any issues at hand.

I think Tevinters call themselves Andrastian, despite the many differences between the Southern Chantry and the Imperial Chantry, it still centers around Andraste and the Maker...or a version of them.

Well I have an allergic reaction to organized religion, so it wouldn't be my preference, outright, but I'm not completely opposed to it.  It really depends on how it's done for me.  Take Dorian, for example, he's clearly Andrastrian and will discuss it with you.  But it doesn't become a thing where I feel like I can't avoid it in the discussions.  To me, I prefer this kind of religious character.  On the other hand, you have Sebastian who I found really off-putting for many reasons, one of which was the amount of religious conversations that he had with Hawke, despite my Hawke always responding "meh" to any Andrastrian references.  Somewhere in the middle is Ashley Williams.  She clearly devoutly religious.  It comes up a few times.  But it didn't feel as prominent as it did in Sebastian's storylines.  Although, admittedly, she never lived passed Virmire for me, so who knows.  She might lead a prayer circle on Ilos, for all I know.

In general, if it makes sense for the character, I'm down for it, despite it not really being a trait that I enjoy.  It certainly seems like it would fit nicely within a KISA storyline, so I guess I'd deal with it if he were hot and KISA enough, right?

I'd like a devout guy, pretty please. None of my DA boyfriends have been one of those yet. Andrastian, preferably.

Yes, Tevinters see themselves as the true Andrastrian faith while the one in Southern Thedas is "a backwater pretender".

I am okay with a KISA being an Andrastian but not with being devout to the Chantry.

I don't really care if a KISA believes in the Maker or in Andraste, but I do care how such belief leads to their actions.

Absolutely not!

I play mostly as mages in the DA setting. A devout Andrastian love interest is just about a nightmare for a mage to romance. Then again, it's only mundane humans that have to worry about getting fed lyrium or conscripted into an Exalted March. A mage would probably just get a simple brand of Tranquility in their sleep. Thedas is just not a safe place to live. A mage romancing a devout Andrastian has one more worry on their plate, and one that can met out immediate and tangible physical harm faster than a demon should they be romancing one. One word into the ear of the local Revered Mother and it's off to prison with you!

To each their own. I think that a devout Andrastian is a greater danger to a mage PC than you do. *Shrugs*

Could happen, could not happen... Who knows? The lands of the White Chantry are pretty much a textbook case of tall poppy syndrome in my view, anyway.

Anyways, back to the topic of the KISA. I'm assuming by devout, we're limiting this to a human character, no?

.........you're clearly trolling. Cause if you had the faintest idea of what we have discussed in this thread, you'd know that we are talking about both male and female KISAs.

Also, lesbians are gay, genius.
