The thing that doesn't feel right is how you can say with a straight face that Dorian is a perfect character but we're specifically requesting a different character. It's almost like, I was married to X and it was perfect and they're perfect, now we're divorced.

The second post is my companion wish list. It's contents range from a Fog Warrior to a Chevalier to an expert blood Mage, a mad scientist type.
I'm expressing a hope for a "mad scientist" archetype, that is in many ways a reaction to Merrill, and what I believe are her more noble and selfless motives.
Does that mean I'm not a fan of Merrill, because I'm requesting a future character who's different, but comparable, to her?
Nope. If I got my wish, that character would very likely still be less beloved to me than Merrill is.
So why am I requesting someone different, and not just Merrill over again?
Because Merrill's story has been told. They will be moving on to different characters in games to come. I have hopes for seeing new things, different things, in future installments of the franchise. The suggestion that my hopes for different things are implicitly critical of past characters is a bit nonsensical.
The food metaphor is pretty valid. Vietnamese Pho is one of my favorite dishes, but if I don't want to have it for every meal, it doesn't suddenly mean I dislike it.
