I would not mind a gay knight in shining armor, as long as we get a lesbian girly mage as a balance.

Please start a separate thread, and I'll be happy to jump in.  It would be nice having a non-hetero lady elf that 1) wasn't a blood mage or 2) hated elven culture.

There has been requests for a bisexual/lesbian KISA in here though.  Someone blonde and with looks like Natalie Dormer and Emma Blunt has been very popular (mmm, Natalie Dormer.  Ahem.)  If you go back about three pages or so, there are pictures of both of those very lovely ladies for reference.  You're welcome to join us on that.  However, as far as a lesbian mage request, that's probably better served with it's own thread.  It's a good request, but would be too much of a side topic here from the OP.   :)

Comforting a friend is briefly off-topic, but understandable.   ;)

Was more of a joke. Do not really care for a gay KISA that much (neither hate nor want).

Fair enough.  It's not a concept that everyone gives a toss about one way or the other.  Thanks for being civil.  I'm glad you helped bump the thread, because I'd at least like to get the conversation rolling in here again.  I mean that sincerely.  :)

Awesome.  :D  I'm playing ME at the moment, but when I'm done I'll swing by and throw in my support.  As well as my ideas too!  Also, and I know this seems silly, but thank you sooo much for the way you worded your OP.  You didn't start with "ugly" or "mannish."  You simply stated what you'd like, and I adore that.  Hopefully things go well, but I think you'll get a lot of support for your idea.

Yep, I'll be by later.  I might even throw up a picture of my elven mage, because that fit with a lot of what you're talking about.  She's not perfect, but I think you'd like where I'm going with.  For instance, I'm a sucker for dark eyeliner and red lips on women in general, including my female characters.  That would be awesome to see in a DA game, if possible, for a lady LI.  :)

In the interest of getting this conversation going again, what do you guys think of a 1980-mumble young Willem Dafoe?

Meh.  He's not really for me.  But I wouldn't kick him out of bed.

I would not mind a gay knight in shining armor, as long as we get a lesbian girly mage as a balance.

Support for this as well.

I wouldn't mind a guy that looked like Channing Tatum. Tall, broad, ripped as hell, know how to....dance.

Good morning Eluvian <hugs>

Picture for reference:

Spoiler

He's good looking, but far too pretty for me.  I like good looking men that are a little unusual looking.  <shrug>

Support for this as well.

I thought it was a darned good idea.  I was just bouncing between ME1 and DA:I last night since my vid card is working, so I haven't stopped by there yet.

Ooh, I just remembered: there's a franchise out there with a lovely female KISA! Gearbox recently  revealed that one of their female (warrior-esque) protagonists was in fact, gay.

Athena the Gladiator got hooked up with Janey Springs :P

Spoiler

So hey Bioware, get with the times man, even a first person shooter has their own official KISA already :P

Woah, I did NOT get that scene. I just got a phone call and confirmation they were in a relationship, but no Janey in the flesh. Damn, I really have to make different choices now!!!

Edit
And not sure if it counts, but Axton from Borderlands 2 is canonically bi.

I'm really hoping the writers/devs have taken this thread into consideration.  I know at least some of them have read it.  Long-lasting threads like this tend to get noticed, especially when the conversation is mostly civil and fun.  One of my personality goals is a sense of humor.  More pronounced than Cass, less snarky than Dorian and less immature than Alistair.  The "licked a lamp in winter" comment reminded me of elementary school.  :P

If it matters to anyone, the upcoming Fire Emblem game(s) will feature one M/M relationship for the player character and one F/F relationship. Granted, they're split between versions, (though both available in the third edition of the game), and are vastly outweighed by heterosexual options, but step in the right direction methinks.

I was pretty lucky I made the right choices x'D was really happy to see Athena and even happier to see her with Janey :P

And I believe Maya was confirmed as asexual by a tweet.

While I can't find the tweet, here's a lovely article on gearbox and LGBT representation. Seems like they're the 'bioware' among the shooter genre.

Good to hear that the new Fire Emblem game has s/s romances in it.  I'm not familiar with the series, but now I'm going to have to check them out.

I heard about Axton in Borderlands 2 being confirmed as bisexual.  It was a big factor in me deciding to buy the game.  I know it's minimal content and, frankly, I hate shooters, but I like to vote with my wallet and support developers who are willing to support us.

And, yes elu, we need much more ruggedness in our m/m options.  Love Dorian, but rugged he is not.  Bull's better in that respect.

Not that sure she even can count but Lysette, the templar npc from Haven. she was my favorite npc there, she doesn't have enough character to say too much about her though.

and I drew this of her.

Axton always struck me as solidly turret-sexual.

I guess you can never know with some people.

No surprise considering he calls his turret things like 'my lady friend', honey, darling, sweetheart, girlfriend (errr....), missus.... Then again, he's flirty with everyone.

Speaking of Axton and in an attempt to go somewhat back on topic: he has 2 or 3 knight helmet customization options (imo the coolest head-customization option in the game), so he's kinda a half gay KISA too : P

It's a shame Lysette didn't have more dialogue tbh, she seemed like a such a sweet/kind templar! :c Anyway; nice drawing :D the armor looks really sturdy, really nice clean lines c:

I wouldn't mind a romance option like that (same goes for the sort of evil LI suggested in the other topic -be that person straight, gay or bi).

This might contain some spoilers and I'm writing in a hurry so excuse me if it is a mess.

Don't know if this section really requires warnings about spoilers but thought I'd give heads up anyway.

When it comes to a gay LI though, wether they are a kisa or whatever I sincerely hope they go a different route than with Dorian. Don't get me wrong, I like Dorian as a character very much and think he was quite funny. I usually even have him on my party for the amazing banter so I'm not opposed to him in general, just as a love interest; in the end his somewhat flamboyant demeanor and witty sarcastic remarks somewhat annoyed me, especially when talking to him alone with my Inquisitor... Those three qualities are what most gay characters, were it TV or games or whatever, are mostly based upon. the stereotype that is most remembered but doesn't necessarily represent most gay people.

I do think that they could've made Dorian far worse and he is not as stereotypical as some other characters are but he was still a stripped down stereotype.

I think he could've been much more interesting without those qualities. He is very smart, he's basically the enemy in some peoples eyes at first and he walked away from his family and country and then turned on his mentor - those are things I find really fascinating about him and I think they could've been explored more to make the character even better.

I think I've mentioned it before that I really liked Dorian at first but then my approval points with him somehow plummeted after romancing him.. I think it would've been more serving to the character if he turned out to be just toying with the Inquisitors emotions or even crushing his hopes ála Vivienne and just laughed off at any suggestion of the relationship deepening.

I really like Dorian, and plan to use him on my future play throughs, but as a love interest for my male inquisitor I think once was enough. The sometimes stereotypical responses and back story of a gay guy with daddy issues did a huge disservice for the character in my opinion. the back-story felt so used. On my playthrough my first instinct was to tell him to just tell his father to scram in the meeting, but then it would've kind of went against the grain of how Rabastan was otherwise. This is how I feel about it and I can understand people disagreeing with me, and that's just fine.

What I'd like to see, and what I'd think would be refreshing would be a very plain, kind of average and maybe a little introverted gay character in a future DA or whatever game tbh - and I wouldn't mind if he happened to be available for a romance even if it meant that it would be cutesy or a little awkward (in fact I'd maybe even prefer that)

Maybe the romance could even play a part in him becoming the "kisa" everyones rooting for. And if not romanced, he could give hints about finding someone and then finding his courage in banter (just like Dorian/Bull hook-ups are suggested in party banter if neither is romanced). Like mentioned before, BioWare romances are kind of disneyfied and finding your courage through finding your soulmate kind of fits the bill.

I can imagine that a gay character like that wouldn't maybe make as big a splash as Dorian but the way I feel is that a LI like that would be far more enjoyable to play at least for me.

I don't really know about the general consensus on matters like these, especially when it comes to gay gamers and how they wish to play and interact with gay characters on video games - on the other hand I don't really have that many gay friends anymore so I'm no expert on what would be considered a good kind of portrayal of a gay character on a video game or any other outlet for that matter. So just voicing my opinion, glad if someone agrees.

(God, half of this could've gone to the Dorian topic  :P)

I agree about Dorian. While his story is a first within the Dragon Age Universe, the backstory was a rather large trope that we have seen time and again. While such stories most definitely deserve to be told, it feels like it's the only one ever showcased in any kind of media.

Would be fine with both actually, but if I'd have to vote I'd give it for the latter one simply cause it would probably suite my own taste better as I mentioned before

And I wouldn't mind the looks so much either... It could be someone who looks like Channing Tatum or someone who is less of a poster boy and maybe just ordinary, in the end it boils down to how the character is written for me...

Though, they wouldn't have to make him bug ugly just to give us something different  :D

While strong and silent, mild-mannered character sounds good to me on paper, I think that a character like that would run the risk of being "boring."

Perhaps a character with some sort of endearing quirk? Although I can't really think of one right now.  If anyone comes up with an endearing quirk they'd like to see in a KISA, throw it out here.

Oh, I've been playing MKX on and off, and MY GAWD SUB-ZERO.  I wouldn't mind having a KISA like him.  He's got this mentor vibe going with the new young characters, he reformed his clan and made it a force for good, and he even *SPOILER I GUESS* extends an olive branch to Scorpion.

Also, DAT BEARD AND DAT MAN-CLEAVAGE.
