I'm really hoping the writers/devs have taken this thread into consideration.  I know at least some of them have read it.  Long-lasting threads like this tend to get noticed, especially when the conversation is mostly civil and fun.  One of my personality goals is a sense of humor.  More pronounced than Cass, less snarky than Dorian and less immature than Alistair.  The "licked a lamp in winter" comment reminded me of elementary school.   :P

I don't know... I want more of a stoic guy, the cliche knight-in-shining-armor, the tall dark and handsome, aloof on the outside but heart of gold on the inside... kind of guy. You know, the guy that is ALWAYS straight. I don't want humorous or child-like or roguish because that roguish witty kind of dude is always bi or gay (I mean when he's not straight). I can't think of one brooding and handsome gay video game guy OOPS well okay I just thought of Kaidan and Cortez LOL ahem, go ME team??

And agree with Rabastan about Dorian... I have been muttering about Dorian since before the game came out (even dev comments about him leaned heavily on the cliche side) and sometimes would get called homophobic (????) and other rude names by players, so... it's good to see others agree with me on Dorian.

It's like... nice try, guys, I'm happy you did this. But... please try harder.

Same with your sex-loving bisexuals. Please try harder.

(I really think we'll see a change now that the lead writing has shifted, just personal opinion)

While strong and silent, mild-mannered character sounds good to me on paper, I think that a character like that would run the risk of being "boring."

Perhaps a character with some sort of endearing quirk? Although I can't really think of one right now.  If anyone comes up with an endearing quirk they'd like to see in a KISA, throw it out here.

Oh, I've been playing MKX on and off, and MY GAWD SUB-ZERO.  I wouldn't mind having a KISA like him.  He's got this mentor vibe going with the new young characters, he reformed his clan and made it a force for good, and he even *SPOILER I GUESS* extends an olive branch to Scorpion.

Also, DAT BEARD AND DAT MAN-CLEAVAGE.

mortal_kombat_x___kuai_liang_render__clo

YES. GIVE ME MAN CLEAVAGE!!!!!!

Yeah Sub-Zero got super hot in that game.

Regarding Dorian, you see stereotypes because you look for them. Anyone who is openly queer immediately has their gender expression examined with a magnifying glass and a fine tooth comb, even by other queer people, and it's a load of crap. If Dorian had been straight, no one would call him effeminate just because he cares about his appearance, but because he's gay everyone latches on to the smallest details and warped them into what they want to see.

I agree with that. That said, I had kinda wished that they could have gone another direction with his story arc, despite how well written it was.

I think this is a little harsh and rather reactionary, and kind of the reason why I usually remain mum on Dorian. I was told this was a friendly thread but oh well.

It was rather caustic, but it wasn't aimed at you, I believe.

"Dorian" is a bit of a trigger word around these parts. For good or ill.

Also, inbeforeSub-ZeroisnotaKISA.

I just meant a KISA with qualities similar to those of Sub-Zero.  A physical similarity certainly won't hurt.

Lmao Luvy.  I can always count on colorful analogies coming from you.  Or are they metaphors?.....

Yeah. Big beefy and bearded. I really want to see more gay male characters of this physical type in media.

Oh, and I can't mention MKX without flying into a rant because I've been ranting for months now.

MILEENA IS FUQUIN FABULOUS AND I AM SO ANNOYED WITH WHAT HAPPENED TO HER IN STORY MODE.

Urgh.  She is surprisingly beautiful with lips, but I feel like the only reason her facial design change was made specifically for *that scene that will not discussed*.

/End totally OT rant.

The fact that Scorpion and Sub-Zero had a tea party was something I thought to never see in canon.

Anyway, while I'll always like me some Scorpion, Sub-Zero's unmasked look in MKX is his best to date.

That being said, while I'd like to see the whole knight in shining armour character similar to Sub-Zero, I'm one of those people who was actually really pleased with Dorian (being my favourite character alongside Cole). I mean, he was not what I would be actively looking for for a gay male character (moustache, mage, showy and all), but he's good and fulfilled his role, in my opinion. Now that he's done, they'll have to try something different the next time around. We most probably won't be seeing another Dorian-type character, and there will have to be a greater chance for a gay/bi knight.

But I won't say no to a light-hearted and charming knight.

If Dorian had been straight, no one would call him effeminate just because he cares about his appearance, but because he's gay everyone latches on to the smallest details and warped them into what they want to see.

When I started the game I had no idea about the characters, or their backstories, I hadn't even seen pictures of some of them and when I first encountered Dorian I assumed he was gay. I didn't find that to be a problem, I just thought; hey, this guy's probably gay.

And to be fair, Dorian being witty and sarcastic are not "smallest details" - they make quite a lot of his character. And you are the first one to bring up his more 'effeminate' qualities.

Like I said, my issue with him was that there is so much more to him, yet they emphasis on the exact same thing all media does. The portrayal of all gay characters always consists of the same building blocks even though there is more go around with.

It's not about his sexuality, never was for me; it's about how his sexuality is depicted with the use of the same old safe bets.  Not all of us are witty, sarcastic or even so funny... Would be nice if that was acknowledged too. Not every gay character needs to be a jokester with issues regarding their sexuality or family ties.

Now now boys (and girls and everyone else), let's play nice. This IS usually a pretty friendly thread. Dorian does seem to be a bit of a trigger. Whether it's around stereotypes, his personal quest, or the 'is Dorian a KISA?' debate, one thing's for sure, we love to (hate to) talk about this guy.

Can I just say that I bought MKX and played it a bit. Mainly because I wanted to vote with my wallet and given them my money for creating a gay character. I have NOT played as Sub Zero though. That is a tragedy that needs to be rectified ASAP. Dude is haaaawt!

OMG!  Sorry for the OT, but I had to share this.  I'm honestly in tears, because I didn't think that the US was truly ready for this to happen.

The US Supreme Court just ordered all states to legalize gay marriage!!!  By a 5:4 decision, and the ban has been declared unconstitutional.

The thing that I love most about this particular timing, is that it's just before Jon Stewart leaves the Daily Show. It's like Kismet.

I can't wait to watch the news over the next few days. Real news, fake news, fake news pretending to be real news.

So uh... I'm not expecting any respones for a good time on this thread (at least from Americans) because every American is probably busy partying because same sex marriage is legal all over the place! WOOO!

In regards to Dorian (am I still allowed to say a teeny tiny thing about him? if nah, tell me and I'll edit him out); I was afraid that he was going to be perceived as stereotypical and in some ways he seems to be a divisive character like Vivienne or Sera. Still: I'm really happy for those who found him great/perfect the way he is and I can totally see why some people would be disappointed with him. You can't please everyone, but I still believe Dorian was at the very least a step in the right direction.

And Sub-Zero from MKX really reminds me of this rugged lumberjack type of guy.... Would be really cool to see a tough rugged lumberjack dude get all misty eyes when he sees his boyfriend walk around the corner :D ... Why am I suddenly imagening a gay Blackwall?

But... But.... Fenris? :c I mean, look up "brooding" in the dictionary and Fenris is right there! As far as fenris being handsome goes... that's your own fault :P should've been born with better tastes (just kidding) beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so Bioware is guaranteed to miss a few swings there :P

I know. :(

But seriously, it'll be worth it. In twenty years, they could be looking back at this moment, and Stewart will be one of the reactions they show. I'm hoping Colbert makes an appearance.

I trust him. If he thinks it's time to break character, he should break character.

But I definitely think there have been times where he's managed to walk a fine line, maintaining character but letting us see how passionately he feels through that.

That wasn't an insult. I was just curious if you were wanting him to be completely sincere or have him be in his character from the show? Personally, I'd rather see him in character since we've seen his sincere thoughts about this while he is not in character.
