I'm not sure if it's been mentioned here, but Ser Gilmore from DA:O fits in quite well (albeit in mod form...)

He's by far the best romance I've had in the entire Dragon Age series, even more so if you're a Human Noble. He's a Warrior Class Champion. He willingly gave up his own life to save you and you used to be lovers until your parents decided to split you up. CAN IT GET ANY BETTER?!

I didn't care for the Inquisition romances. I preferred having a choice when talking to someone rather than press X button to start romance. Seems rather...forced.

Inquisitor: Hi Companion/Advisor, you're annoying, ugly and boring. You're also wrong about eveything, so just go die.

LI: That hurt...

Inquisitor: (Press Heart button)

LI: I love you sooooooo much my love.

:/

I've always been super annoyed that I never got a chance to play the Gilmore mod.  He's definitely the type of romance I'd like to see, but, alas, I'm a console player.

Wonderful mod ... (Attention: Don't works together with the "Elf cat" hehehe) ;)

And they even create mods for him until now. Look, a new mod for DA:O, for Gilmore: http://www.nexusmods...age/mods/4335/?

A wonderful friend of mine even made a german translation for it: http://www.nexusmods...age/mods/4350/?

I think you're setting yourself up for disappointment by doing that

I think at this point, if there's spoilers, Michel is more likely to pop up in Trespasser.

Yeah, I have to figure that anything for DA4 is in VERY preliminary stages right now, not even having a solid plot setting. It might be something being DISCUSSED, but I don't think they're anywhere near ready to start locking down any returning characters.

And personally, something rubs me wrong about Michel altogether, and I'd really rather not see him return, at the very least not as a LI, and honestly, preferably not at all. It probably has something to do with the Chevalier 'graduation' ritual - hunting down and killing elves. Like that's an official part of the end of the training for a Chevalier. Personally, I see that as disqualifying him for a position as a 'knight in shining armor,' since that's outright murder. And he has no guilt or remorse about this over the course of The Masked Empire.

Also, I'm really kind of anti-Orlesian in general. I'd sooner have someone else.

Call me a skeptic, but Laidlaw writing the word "spoilers" in response to a question about an upcoming game =/= confirmation of the information asked about.  It simply means that he won't discuss spoilers for DA4 at this point.  You know, if he answered "No, Michel is not in DA4", that would also constitute a spoiler, right?

I know Michel is a popular choice with a lot of people but given that he may or may not be alive depending on player choice I don't see him being a big part of DA4. On top of that its been fairly heavily hinted that the next game will be moving away from the South of Thedas, and i'm not sure how much sense he would make in a story outside of Orlais.

And like Daveliam said, confirming that he wouldn't  be in it would be a spoiler just as much as confirming he would :)

As a console-peasant, I had to live vicariously through Let's Plays for that. But it's not the same as playing it yourself because there are times when I'm like "No! Don't say that!" at the person playing. And I'm shithouse at playing games on the PC (WASD controls to move? The hell? Where's the controller?).

Here's to hoping for someone new, though, because I see a lot of hang-ups with supporting characters who could potentially die. Better off starting with a "clean slate" of a character. I'll probably have rethink of my ideas and hopes for our knight in question now that Trespasser DLC looks to be a make-or-break epilogue...

I've never let Michel die, but from the grainy youtube video I saw, I'm sure the body at the end is wearing a helmet, so you can't actually tell it's Michel.

Also, the wikia says the elf thing is informal at best.  The Spartans did the same with their slaves, except that really was the final test to prove yourself, but that hasn't stopped the media and popular culture from glorifying them.

That said, I don't like the chevaliers as an institution and I certainly don't approve of Elven slaughter, but they can't be worse than the possible magisters we'll be getting in DA4.

I think/hope we'll get the typical Magister and then more of a Calpernia type, if not Calpernia herself, (who imo is the far likelier returning character). Or maybe it would be more interesting to have the same situation but with a conservative Laetan vs Maevaris angle.

As for whether or not chevaliers are automatically disqualified from being a KISA, I would argue that they aren't. What matters is how it's presented, if at all.

To be fair to the chevaliers, we only know that the elf murdering happened in one location at one period of time.  We don't know that this is actually part of the initiation into the order writ large.  My understanding is that it's never been addressed outside of this one instance.

I don't think it's necessary to immediately rule out a chevalier as a KISA.  There are many ways that it could go down without the chevalier getting the blood of an innocent on his/her hands.  The elf in question could have been a known villain (perhaps killing someone the chevalier was close to in the past).  The elf could force the chevalier's hand by attacking when s/he explains that they don't want to hurt him/her.  The chevalier can conspire with the elf to allow them to escape and faking the 'murder'.  The chevalier could be from a group that doesn't have the elf-murdering initiation.  The chevalier could have committed the murder but been so grief and remorse stricken that s/he commits him/herself to reforming the order to stop it from happening again.  There are plenty of ways it can be written plausibly to avoid making every chevalier a murderer and allowing them to still function as a KISA.

I've never read the Masked Empire.  Did Michel kill elves for his initiation?  I'm assuming so, but I couldn't get a confirmation from the wiki.  It looks like it, but it never flat out says that he did.  I'm assuming that the book confirms it, right?

If I remember correctly, the book implies that he did in fact kill an elf as part of the initiation.  It doesn't go into details in the form of a descriptive flashback or anything.

Those are all good ideas for the backstory of a Chevalier.  I personally would not oppose having a Chevalier companion, but I am skeptical as to Michel specifically being in DA4.  Basically everything about him in Inquisition was not what I was expecting after reading the Masked Empire in regards to his looks, his characterization, his voice, his apparent age, and his tiny role in the Imshael plot. Too lackluster IMO.

I liked him in the book, though.

I expected all of the Masked Empire characters to have a little more spotlight than what they had, especially Michel and Briala. I'm still a bit resentful they received so little attention.

Oh no frigging way. I would seriously cry if I finally get a gay KISA and he ends up being an elf-killer.  I mean of all things for elf-lovers like me

Oh, p.s., agree with all of this, too.

Would also add Celene. What a disappointment. (Also was no overfond of Briala's look - which did not match the book to me.)

Well to get something, you have to give something, that is the ultimate universe balance. So basically if you want a gay KISA, you or others who have different likes have to swallow a big piece before they get the all times wanted KISA... I think that it's a good chance to build a good story for the KISA, he might feel huge remorse for killing that elf... or may be he wasn't given a choice and was forced to do it... like our warden was forced to drink from the blood to become one, actually all participant was forced to do that... so I think the situation with Michael is the same... when you look it this way, I don't think that it's such big problem, right? It will give extra lines and extra emotional state to his background and story... for once I am looking forward for that... if it will happen.

I can't create men on the CC so a Bisexual Knight in Shining armor would be just fine (I'm so sorry, I... Just can't, they either look too girly or they look way too young)

Ha, that is a good point... but I would definitely hope he's remorseful, unlike Dorian, who's like, yeah we keep elven slaves, but it's not as bad as you think... Say that again to my face, pal

Nah I want him to be gay because straight player characters have been hoarding the straight KISAs, so now it's time for the other side to get their due :P

You know what, I'll be happy if their a gay one for you and a straight one for me, so we'll both be happy. (I make girly men, I'm serious, they look more like girls then men! I don't do men that well, I'm better off playing ladies becuase i make them look decent at best) And by the way, you get DORIAN! The worlds most awesome character in all of DAI (you got your due with Dorian, the guy Is... HOLY CRAP AMAZING) and that's a straight fan girl fanning over a gay dude, good job Bioware.

I like Dorian so mutch that I don't want to use a mod to romance him as a female. Hehehe somehow betraying him if I would do. Bioware have done a great job here.

I NEVER thought that a character like Dorian (not only that he is gay, but he is also a little bit-ch sometimes  :D  ) would be a favorite of mine. I just LOVE him, as a straight women. B)

On the whole topic of this knight, I kind of don't want this to turn into "which minority demographic needs this romance more?" because I've seen enough arguing in online spaces. One of the main points is, it would be fantastic if the Knight-In-Shining-Armour archectype (if there is gonna be one in the next game, because who knows? Bioware would probably not write this character altogether) so happened to be LGBT+ character for once, so bisexual, pansexual, asexual... I'd be pretty stoked anyway, so long as they're written well.

If they turn out to be heterosexual... oh well. In the very end, my feelings about that would entirely depend on how I feel about the LGBT+ companions in the next game, knights or not (and yes, I was quite happy with Dorian this time around, so I have no complaints...).

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see how appearances could impact your gameplay to that extent. I don't want to seem presumptuous, but I think It's perfectly understandable if you just prefer playing female characters, appearances aside.

I don't buy into the idea that there's something preferable about a love interest that's only interested in my gender. It seems kind of possessive to me. Among other things.

If it were about evening out the representation, then both the gay and bisexual LIs have yet to include this archetype. ::shrug:: I have no dog in that particular fight, but I'm in the little-tiny-group that considered DA2's approach fantastic.
