Not to go too far OT, but what other archetypes/characters do you hope to see in future DA games for the LGBT characters.

For me, I'd love to see a non-straight dwarf.  I don't think we've had a single one yet outside of The Warden.

I'd also love to see Mae show up in a future game.  She's so damned badass.

I think I'd also like to an innocent, naive gay/bisexual guy.  We've seen it played out with several females (Merrill, Bethany) and with Alistair, but never with a gay/bisexual guy.

And, of course, our gay KISA.  And, since others have brought it up, the dark knight side, like a Bishop type character.

I'd be happy to see any of these show up in DA 4 (but the KISA gets my first vote!).

Hmmm....to the dwarven question, I'm totally down for a gay male dwarf, as long as he's not anything remotely like Oghren, because...ew....

Although I'm all for having a innocent, naive guy, it's not really my type. I prefer more assertive guys personally.

KISA is definitely a must have in future titles.

Now, for the Dark Knight type, I can see that be very...alluring. While a gay one would be nice, I could easily see a bisexual warrior fitting that trope as well. A guy that could fall in love with you, and yet wouldn't compromise his own "darker" or questionable beliefs. The more I think on it, I think such a romance would be pretty freaking awesome if it was written very well.

Branka and Hespith were both femDwarves in a relationship.  A gay male dwarf would go against the typical physical stereotype of gay men in media.  I'd like to see one.

I always forget about Branka and Hespith (because I HATE that damn Deep Roads segment), but they should get called out more often as a positive thing. Have we ever had a confirmed gay couple that was important to the plot, but not a companion before?

Wow, I'd heard people refer to that line in MotA, but I didn't realize it was all caused by a bug.  It definitely came across as Tallis being uncomfortable with Serendipity herself.

As for future LGBT romances, I really hope to see a butch lady someday.  A dwarf or qunari or just a strong warrior lady who digs cute girls.  I'd especially love her if she were a KISA, or the stoic broody type, but I'd take any kind of butch female character at this point.

Huh. I always read that scene as Tallis thinking it was awkward that Bran brought a prostitute to the event. It never even occurred to me that it could be read any other way.

I'd like to see a butch lesbian. Or, really, a hardass chapstick lesbian warrior. Which is sort of how I played FemShep. Just non-nonsense, not afraid to take extreme measures to complete a task that she thinks is worth it, weather that means killing ten people to save a hundred or even romantically. Once the player makes it clear that they're interested, she's just coming after you with everything she's got. That scene in ME3 where Jack punches MaleShep in the face and then kisses him? I want that.

Weeeell, Branka and Hespith's relationship was not a good one by any means, though.

Wade and Herren are supposed to be a gay couple, but there is no clear indication of this in game.  You can sort of see it if you squint, but to the casual eye, they can just as easily not be considered a couple if the viewer wishes due to a lack of evidence.  The only thing confirming their status is 'Word of god' via the devs.

At first, I just thought they were kinda quirky friends. Only in hindsight was it blatantly obvious for me.

That's true. I was mostly talking about how they were just a terrible couple that happened to also be gay, rather than a gay couple that was horrible.

Hmm when I first encountered them I thought, is this a joke? Because it seemed like both were talking with very affected voices, and just... I don't know, I smelled something funny. So when DG confirmed they were a couple, I was kind of annoyed... Wade and Herren are like a caricature of a gay couple, imo.

I think they'll do better in the future though. Hespeth and Branka were great (um, minus the horrific tragic ending). But after Wade and Herren, I'm pleasantly surprised they're not both decked out in plaid or something lol

I actually loved Wade and Herren. Didn't know it had been word of God'd but I tbh I'd assumed it was meant to clear they were a couple all along.

I see where you are coming from about about the caricature but I'd really hate for it ever to be that camp/flamboyant gay characters can't be shown for fear of it being called stereotypes. Plenty of gay men are camp as a row of tents - and nothing wrong with having them shown as well. Plus I really liked the idea of this huge queen who just happens to also make the badass armor and weapons :)

Adding my voice to the we need a Gay Knight brigade.

White knight would be cool. Dark Knight would be cool. I almost died when I saw Blackwall, then almost died from holding my breath that he was on my...*ahem* our team. But alas. We must wait again. It's kind of frustrating that Hawke and Amell are related. Because I created the warden after an amalgamation of me and Cortez from ME and my Hawke as the same with my Fiancé *blushes as I show off ring* and my headcanon for Robert (Steve's husband from before). Then I find out they're related...

Hawkeward...

I think it's the fact that there is an abundance of those types of men in the media. But then again, they're usually seen in more traditionally feminine roles. However, does smithing count as fashion design? Because I mean, technically he is making attire.

Oh, absolutely, definitely agree with you there! It's just, when they're the only example of a canon gay (male) couple, I raise my eyebrows a bit.

I want a butch lesbian, but I fear they have permamently been relegated to "bad stereotype" area. I don't think a Butch lesbian will happen for a long time in Bioware games because a lot of non LGBT people call bad sterotype on it drowning out the actually lesbian people who want them. I would hate for flamboyant gay men to have to deal with the same.

As far as characters it would be cool to see as far as sexual minorities?

Gay prince/princesses. A gay Sebastian would have been magnificent for you guys.

A bisexual that is not portrayed as defined by their libido one way or another but just says it out right. Isabela/Jack/Oghren/ Anders/ Zevran/Aveline all had stories of more than one partner. Just have a bisexual do the same except, have them mention more than just one gender. Don't base it on the gender of the pc, just have them be talks of their past or whatever. Or even have them mention it in a conversation with another person.

Trans people like Mae

Same sex hookups from companions.

Going back through the thread and just found this. I have one question...

A bit off topic, but I wouldn't mind having a gay templar as a future romance. And this afternoon, in a sneak peek of a new trailer, we got an image of a rather attractive very dark skinned Templar that got me thinking about having a Templar as an actual gay romance.

Spoiler

HOLY BISQUICK!!! Who is that man?

More religious gay people in general, keep feeling Ashley and Sebastian were straight partly for being religious, despite Ashley never says she is a Christian and the Chantry does not rule against anything LGBT, especially not a hard stance.

I guess this is a YMMV but I always say the Chantry as pretty F/F friendly. In the sense that I always had the impression the sisters, mothers, grand clerics were quite willing to date within the clergy. But perhaps that's because I see Leliana as the template for the devout Andrastian.

She definitely was, but Leli was never actually part of the clergy, but she definitely counts as a religious LGBT character. So you have a good point.

I just meant that I saw Leliana (despite her heretical views) as representative of the attitude to sex you see in the Chantry. Some of her DA:O dialogue is about thinly veiled references to illicit sex among the affirmed at the Chantry. And my recollection of the context was that this comment worked for more women than men.

That's what I was thinking too.  Maybe this is just me pre-coffee talking, but I always felt that F/F relationships being more open might be another result of the power structure of the Chantry.  Since women are considered closer to the Maker than men (via Andraste,) they might have more liberties than the male members of the clergy.  Still, I also think that a devout member of the Chantry that's a gay man would be quite welcome.  While it's been made clear that LGBT relationships are generally considered not a big deal, I'd like to see more of the M/M side of it.

To the first part, I actually think that's why Jack was only a M/F option. When she was first revealed, there were a ton of posts around here about how she's "clearly the Lesbian option" and "Why is Bioware conforming to stereotypes?". I'm pretty sure I remember reading that F/F dialog was recorded for Jack, but I could be mistaken. (For the record, I don't think she was changed because of the feedback.)

To the second part...Jack did talk about relationships she's had in the past with both sexes. Which just makes me sadder that she wasn't a Bi option.

I'll say it. I want a Templar KISA. Mostly because you know that would be the shiniest armor around for one, and two, I think it would make a great part of his character. Here he is, duty bound to protect those that society has cast away, and to protect society from those castaways, and being able to sympathize because of who he is.

Lawd I might need some tissues already.

The way Mass Effect 1 and to a lesser extent Mass Effect 2 & Dragon Age 2 were recorded meant that the voice actors read some lines that were intended only for the other gender. The voice actors for Kaidan (in Mass Effect 1), Ashley, Jacob, Miranda, Tali, Jack, Thane and Sebastian did not record lines for same sex romance but same gender Shepard/Hawke had some (sometimes very few) lines scattered around in the files of romance with them.

They had a new system for recording the player character's dialog, and so there is basically nothing like for Mass Effect 3 and likely Dragon Age: Inquisition as well.

I personally wouldn't mind a Templar as the KISA.  Although he/she would be controversial to some of the player base simply for being a Templar no matter what his/her personality is like, I still think the character could work and fit all of the criteria listed in this thread. We've never even had a full-fledged Templar before. We've only had kind of, sort of Templars.  But not really. (Alistair, Cassandra, and Carver- who, in Carver's case, he could just as easily have been a Gray Warden or dead. Plus Carver was only a companion while a Templar for a very small portion of the game. Mostly DLCs if the player chose to take him along.)

Although, depending on what happens in DA:I maybe there won't even be a Templar order left.  Who knows.

*sob* So chances of male inquisitor reading lines for the Cullen, Blackwall, or Solas is nil then  :crying:  I suspected that would be the case. Hmm maybe the female VA's voice could be modulated somehow........... okay I've hit the "crazy" a little too hard again  =]
