Garvey is super boring.  When people say that Kaidan is boring, I will now direct them to Garvey as it's not even close.  And I love goody-goody types, but even I find him to be too boringly boring boringness.

Thank God someone else sees that. Garvey is so boring that he makes his entire faction boring as well.

Preston is sort of dull unfortunately. I was pleased at first to meet someone noble and kind, but I just wish I could find something additional to that in the character. Even just more of a backstory would be nice.

In real life, Garvey Preston seems to be the kind of person you'd want to watch your back; He's loyal, reliable and kind-hearted. In game life, you kind of want him to, at least, be a card cheat.

I do like his design and voice actor but he seems to be the personification of the noble and kind character type and seems to lack the interesting spins some of the other characters of the same type recieves. He could have still been the calm and kind character he is with a few doubts like worrying over whether or not the Minutemen might become a mercenary group or oppressors to the people rather than their protectors if they do not keep the spirit of their intent in check.

I have yet to get Hancock to join me.  He's one of only two companions that I haven't gotten yet.  Not sure what I have to do to make it happen.  Frankly, I wasn't too interested in him because he's the "renegade" choice guy from what I can tell.  He likes violence and theft and drug use and being rude and selfishness and stuff like that, so he doesn't seem like a great fit for my PC.  But........I've never actually seen his fact up close like that.  It must be the dim lighting in his building in Goodneighor combined with the hat he wears.   Look, I'm not saying saying he's as hot as Danse or anything, but he's actually better looking for a ghoul than I was expecting.  Maybe I will romance him too......?

That picture is after people give him regular eyes and give him hair. This is what he supposed to look like.

fallout_4_hancock.jpg

He's actually a good moral LI choice. He's not renegade at all. He's more about personal freedom and do gooder. MacCready is actually the renegade choice. MacCready will disapprove if you help out people or do stuffs for free. If you give cure for a life threatening disease to a child, MacCready will dislike that as opposed to keeping it to yourself while Hancock will love you for it. He loves if you do stuffs for free and help out people without asking for anything in return. He's more about killing the strong and do whatever it takes to help out the weak.

All the male LIs are good moral characters except for MacCready. I know people dislike Danse, but he, Hancock, and Garvey will only approve of good behaviors while MacCready will be happy with evil and selfish choices. As I said, Danse is a jerk with a heart of gold. Garvey is basically Alistair without a personality. Not to mention I try to avoid talking to him if possible since he keeps asking me to go helping out the same settlement everytime, his repeatable quests are horrible. It's short and all the same. He's boring, even his quests are boring. Maybe he's there to balance out the rest of the cast who are super crazy. Danse is always grumpy to everyone, Piper is too hyperactive, Curie is a ditz who is acting like a child half the time, Cait is a crack head, Hancock is well... Hancock.

In real life or in the game, I wouldn't want to date him. I feel like he would probably drag me to church or to a soup kitchen or something. In the game, he's too boring and doesn't have much of a personality.

I don't think him being boring have anything to do with him being good. Piper is as goody-two-shoes as you can get, but she has a personality. She's abrasive and nosy and wants to get into everyone business. That's how I would describe Piper, but I don't even know what I should say about Garvey. he has really cool clothes? Even when you go through his romance, he's basically suicidal and you give him a reason for living. He basically has no background. Even though Garvey is boring, he's still better than Curie though. She always rubs me the wrong way due to how simplistic her view of the world is.

Preston isn't a bad character, but he's just not as interesting when compared to the other companions like Valentine or Danse. I think part of the reason why I dislike him is because of the constant quests he gives you. After a while those quests just become repetitive.

Yeah, and unfornately i tried out the romance. Its short and annoying, and he calls me the B word. I am not sure if all the content for him was finished, because it is severly lacking compared to other companions like Piper, Valentine, Cait and Danse. The whole Minutemen faction seems kinda rushed to be honest. To bad for Preston, i really wanted him!

The voice acting being bland as heck did not help at all.

You can get a moment of that but you have to be a MEGA douche to get it. He pretty much is all "oh god we've tainted the minutemen forever." but yeah.

Oh god that video. I was dying.

Also McCready isn't evil? He's selfish yes but he's pretty much what I'd expect someone who grew up in fallout's world to actually be like. Looking out for number one and yours above all else and screw everyone else. But he's not malicious for maliciousness sake. As for the cure there's a pretty good chance you would've GOTTEN that disease at that point (especially if you take a companion since they can give you the disease even if you don't get bite cause they did) so him disapproving of you giving away the cure and healing Austin instead makes plenty of sense to me for the perspective of me and mine matter more than everyone else. And yeah helping people for free would go under this. You're wasting ammo and putting your life in danger. You should get something out of it.

I'm just saying that with MacCready, if you want aggressive and selfish choices, for female, it's Cait, for male, it's MacCready and Strong. Otherwise, most other characters disapprove of that.

Oh aggressive and selfish definitely but I personally would expect that from most people in fallout's universe. He rags on you for killing innocent people and cannibalism like the rest of em. That said even Danse gave me approval for picking aggressive options hordes of times.

They said we could romance all humans. It's funny how most of them, especially male LIs aren't conventional human, and the only male human we couldn't romance is Deacon.

BTW, did anyone realize that Deacon's hair color is actually ginger?

Aggressive actions toward non-humans. Danse actually hates it if you are being selfish and evil toward humans. He's a typical knight, and he looks out for his own kinds. If you do selfish action to humans like keeping the cure, doesn't help people in need, etc, he will dislike all those actions. Cannibalism is something almost everyone dislike, even Cait. They could see it as disgusting rather than an evil choice. You should expect that from most people in Fallout's universe but not your companions. One of the things I'm disappointed about is the lack of evil characters. Most of the good actions give approval for them like Piper, Danse, Garvey, Curie, Nick, Codsworth, Deacon, Hancock. There are only X6, Cait, Strong, and MacCready who approve of bad actions. None of the people in our party are evil. Even the evil ones are mostly selfish, with Strong being an exception of course.

It's strange too, because there are other characters, like Jane Bennett in Pride and Prejudice, that are very similar and I enjoy them just fine. I suppose the distinction is that this game has higher stakes, and he probably should be a little more anxious about the future and reputation of the faction, with it's vague mandate and lack of focus. Especially if he found out...

I actually find Garvey's lack of personality could be something intentional. If you look at other leaders of the factions, they're HUGE jerks, EVERY SINGLE ONE of them, Desdemona, Maxson, and Father are all jerks. The Minutemen is supposed to be your faction. They follows whatever decision you decide to do. Garvey is sort of your yes man, if he has a strong personality, he would probably refuse to do a lot of the stuffs like siding with the Institute or overshadow you and give the impression that he's actually the General instead of you.

I think Akrabra means the "babe" word. I romanced him just to see how his romance goes, he calls you babe as a nickname. Damn it, Danse, why couldn't you give me a pet name instead of that boring Garvey?

That doesn't make him any less of a douche. Also several of those aggressive actions were towards humans (granted of the non lawful kind but hey it wasn't pure racism on his end.) Also he tended to get a bit huffy whenever I tried to talk people down. Persuading for more money isn't an evil action. It's just greedy. Thievery can be seen as such yeah and it's weird that only McCready approves of it but oh well. Regardless he too whines about you killing innocent people and being too much of a douche. I don't know I'd say X6 is pretty neutral evil. Where's Strong is chaotic evil. No one else though. Least MacCready is consistent in his crappy attitude (except oddly with goodneighbor. He has no reason to give a crap about me robbing them but always he instantly turns against me. *sigh* bethesda...)

He's upholding orders. You said it yourself that those people who approve of aggressive actions are non-lawful. I don't see how it makes him a douche for being aggressive to bad people. If he doesn't consider people like synths or ghouls as humans then I don't see it how it makes him bad. It's like people who don't see Geth in ME3 as actually alive, so they feel no sympathy toward destroy them all. As I said, there is a lack of evil characters. If you get caught stealing, he gets aggressive because it seems as a criminal act and everyone will try to attack you, he would help those people instead over you. Bethesda's companions do need to improve the system though since it's weird to see him fire at me even after he talked about how much he loves me. MacCready may not like killing the innocent, but he likes for you to take advantage of them and steal from them. I gave a dying woman a stimpack, he said he wouldn't have done it and disapprove, I gave a beggar a coke since he's thirsty and he disapproves. I demands more money to save people, and he likes it. Yeah, he may not be maniacally evil, but it's a stretch to call him good as well.

From what I can tell:

Piper: Lawful Good

Nick: Lawful Good

Curie: Lawful Good

Codsworth: Lawful Good

Garvey: Lawful Good

Cait: Chaotic Evil (You should do whatever you need to survive, everyone is bad and only look out for themselves)

Danse: Lawful Good (Yes, it's controversial to give him that, but he does his best, talking bullets, and would even sacrifice himself to save his subordinates. They said so as much. He just doesn't consider non-humans as his own race. It's like you don't care about what happen to a dog or a robot if you don't consider them as valuable as humans. He believes what he does is good and could save humanity. He loves to help people and dislike unlawful and illegal actions. Hurting innocent humans or even insulting them would make him dislike you).

X-6: Lawful Evil (He actually follows the institute Laws down to the letter, but he doesn't care about whatever happens to surfacers and wants for them to just die out)

Strong: (Chaotic Evil): This is pretty self explanatory.

MacCready (Chaotic Neutral): He's selfish and only looks out for himself and the people he cares about. Taking advantage of others is all fair games. He does questionable things as mercenary for cash, and stealing is something he approves.

Dogmeat (Neutral)

Deacon (Chaotic Good): It's ok to break the laws and do whatever it takes, as long as it can achieve the greater good. Picking locks and breaking into people's houses are all fair game. He doesn't care that you break the laws as long as you don't hurt people.

As you can see: There are ways too many good characters compared to more questionable moral characters.

Upholding orders of an organization that's fine with hording technology, killing people to maintain their horde because their fanatics and have the delusion that only they can safely use said technology and are patronizing as heck? Heck those buggers were trying to muscle in on my settlements saying they wanted me to "encourage" the farmers to give them crops (You guys will stop my purifiuer cap maker over my cold dead hands and the smoking ashes of the Prydwen more like). Cause god forbid they barter. Oh noes. That's asking too much. I'm not sure why following orders is something to be proud of when it's the Brotherhood of Steel? I like Danse. But he's a super douchey and patronizing to most of the companions. It's not just Synth and ghouls. There's plenty of times in the game I just did a double take when bringing him around. Now there's straight laced good companions in the game yes. But Danse is patronizing straight laced good only those he approves of. The super racism got tiresome too. Especially when you'd think a certain event would make him have a moment of reflection but nope...let's keep our head in the ground. I'd take a chaotic neutral over that anytime. As for MacCready You don't have to get caught stealing for him to turn on you. If you steal anything in goodneighbor he flips out and tries to kill you. I didn't see the dying woman bit sadly so I'm not sure the context but eh. As for Nuka Cola guy, he could've drank some water tbh. I kind of wish I could've given him water. Also it's not taking advantage to ask for payment (decent payment not that 75 caps BS) for risking your life over issues they could handle themselves. You want me to storm a super mutant den for freaking 75 caps? Are you crazy? That wouldn't even pay for the stimpacks I'd waste let alone the ammo! MacCready is probably chaotic neutral yes but he perfectly makes sense given fallout's universe.

Oh yeah there's defintely too many goody goodies. Piper, Nick, Codworth and Garvey pretty much throw a fit if you do anything even remotely questionable. The only really evil companions you get are X6 and Strong. Everyone else is either neutral or good.

But the game gave me dogmeat at the beginning of the game who doesn't judge and can fetch things and works with Lone Wanderer so that's who I use on my evil playthroughs. Strong's throwing a fit over me hacking and lockpicking can screw right off.

He believes the Brotherhood of Steel to be the good guys and upholding the laws. he has an idealistic view on them, but he personally is a very nice guy. Demand tributes are like a tax for BoS, and Danse would dislike it if you resort to hostile actions to take over instead of resolving it peacefully. What do you expect for him to reply to your companions when the MAJORITY of them are what he considers non-humans like ghouls, machines, synths, and supermutant? He's a jerk with a heart of gold as I said. While he's pretty awkward socially and rubs people the wrong way, he doesn't do things that he believes is morally wrong. He follows HUMAN laws, he doesn't consider non-humans as part of that laws, but it's more about what BoS laws and doctrine than anything.

That's false, I stole a bunch of stuffs from Goodneighbor all the time. In fact, that is how I maxed out his affection. I stole all the items from Daisy and Kl-e-0 and max out his affection there. If you're a part of the good guys, you're helping people because they're in need, not because there's something in it for you. It's a random event, a woman is dying of injury in the middle of nowhere, she asked you for help, I gave her the stimpack, he disapproved and said he wouldn't have done that. As I said, if you do selfish actions, he approves. You can compare that to Piper. If you ask money to help people in need, she disapproves, but if you ask money to do something illegal or just personal gain, she's ok with it. There's a difference between doing something good for the sake of it and doing something as personal gain.

He could believe the sky to be yellow and pink too that doesn't make it anymore true. Also lol at taxing people who didn't ask for you to come there that you don't even protect. Just LOL. To treat them the way they treat him for one. Also he's rude to everyone that's not Codsworth (who's a machine ironically) and Dog. Every single one of your human companions gets some snide remark. So no it's not just a race thing it's Danse being a douchemobile thing. If you give the Minutemen the ability to defend themselves via artillery Danse gets pissy about it.

I tried to steal something from goodneighbor (the hotel in particular) and he started shooting at me. Where were you stealing from? The warehouses during Charlie's quest? Also helping people just because they're in need and not getting anything isn't in MacCready's character (not in my character's either. That's the fastest way to run out of ammo and resources.) Also I already said constantly that MacCready is selfish and has a me and mine outlook? Yeah he's not going to stick his neck out for a stranger and finds doing such ridiculous. I just got the woman randomly asking for purified water event not a stimpack. Regardless still makes sense to me. Those are resources you can use for yourself.

Cait is the best for an evil playthrough. If you get caught stealing, she actually defends you instead of helping the NPC shoot you instead. She likes if you hurt and kill innocent, demand more money, resorting to violent actions, insulting people, lie and cheat, stealing, heck, you can even ask her to steal for you. I'm surprised you didn't use Cait.
