If you play FO4, Danse is pretty much a typical KISA, although the more classic sense like the crusader than the modern romanticized version. He's a lone wolf who has no one except you, so his romance can be very sweet depending on how you interpret it.

I guess these games are all about trials and errors. Did you know the first gay superhero died of AIDS after he was bitten by an AIDS vampire? Bruce Banner almost got raped by a bunch of gay guys in YMCA. Yeah, we have come a long way to what we have now with gay Green Lantern and gay Iceman. Fire Emblem finally allows gay relationship. I'm just hoping we finally get an actual gay KISA whose sexuality isn't tied to his story. Dorian was a big disappointment for me. For the first gay companion LI, they tie too much of his sexuality to his personal quest. I'm just surprised that we got a gay KISA in a non-bioware game considering how Bioware games are all about inclusion and diversity.

I'd still buy Bioware games regardless, and I'm looking forward to the next game to have a KISA. It's just gonna be a long way off and it's not really a sure deal. We'll cross that bridge when that happen. I just hope they get inspiration from how other games handle gay characters in the meantime. I really like the way they handle Danse. I just hope Bioware could give us a knight to guss over like for Bethesda. :P

Even rogues characters like MacCready is also very adorable, especially the parallel between both the protagonist and him being single father. Despite being on the shallow side, Bethesda allows us to tell many great story and RP with our LI.

Yep. Yep. Touched upon that in the exegesis. And Northstar was written to be homosexual from the very beginning, but the editor-in-chief at that time (Jim Shooter- and blame him too for that near-rape scene written in for the Hulk) and the comics code authority prevented any outright say-so, and they could only so much as hint at it until the early 90s... The Young Avengers' Hulking and Wiccan were almost written differently- initial concept notes for Teddy were to have him written as female but as a shapeshifter, she'd have no gender, and it was a very round-about way of sneaking in a same-sex romance (or something close to it). Luckily, the editor for Allan Heinberg was like "dude, just make them gay. It'll make things easier."

Technically, Fire Emblem, Fallout... they allow for bisexual characters, not so much gay characters... which is great for bisexual representation. But still, I'm waiting for the outright "gay-only" feature from them.

Screw it, I write and draw ****, I might as well live in my own little world for now until then...

Honestly, I'm ok with playersexual. Whenever they have set sexuality, the gay ones are often being gimped. We ALWAYS have less options. SWTOR didn't have any gay relationship because of their so called set sexuality, DAO, DA2, DAI, ME1, ME2, ME3. Yeah, I'll take playersexual over set sexuality any day if that's how they want to handle it. Set sexuality is good if they want to implement it properly like equal number.

This is where our opinions differ- put me in the camp for set sexualities.

Before I go any further, just note, that I'm only talking about sexuality. I can note that well written characterisation exists without so much as delving into their sexual orientation, but this just concerns when sexuality is something that's to be brought up in a character.

Now, I'll still push for better and more varied representations, relationships, and stories regarding characters who ID as different parts of the queer spectrum. Yet, it's the perceived "convenience" part of playersexuality that just doesn't resonate with me, because it doesn't allow for the characteristic nuances directly tied to sexuality you'd find in people who are gay or straight.

I mean, I'm probably gonna play Devil's advocate here, but in Fallout 4, (and I'm genuinely asking this), have any of the companions mention past same-sex relationships? Because while they're all bisexual/polysexual, those I have heard who have engaged in previous relationships were in opposite sex ones. Correct me if I'm wrong. In terms of "playersexuality" it's easier for the developers to just hand everything to us and say "there you go! You make up the queer facet of this character" while inputting heterosexual ones canonically in the story. As a writer, I would want more effort than that.

Considering the ones I want to romance in DA games are always on the other side of the spectrum with people like Alistair and Cullen, it would be less heartache and headache to just do it that way for me. Maybe when Bioware gives us more variety than what we have. Except for MacCready who had a wife and Cait who flirts with everyone, all the characters are asexual since they don't mention any sexuality at all. There is no indication that they're bi, straight or gay. Personally, I would prefer that than the afterschool special with Dorian. If that's how they choose to show sexuality then no thank you. Let it be a part of their sexuality like mentioning a past boyfriend or something rather than making it revolved around the characters.

Piper gets hot and bothered if you take her to see Magnolia. Not sure if she reacts to any male NPC. So she is at least bi.

Haylan has a conversation about Danse comforting her. It's the only somewhat romantic information we have about him. I personally think Haylan has feelings for him and he is always very complimentary of her. It's not very strong but the only in-game info seems to suggest straight to me.

Hayden actually has a crush on the other guy, not Danse. Danse himself said that he has never been close to anyone and isn't close to anyone that when he's around you, he doesn't know what to act. He's treating her like a subordinate. He seems like a military type who focuses on work only. You can ask Danse about Hayden, and he would deny it straight out. There is nothing going on between them.

It never occurs to me that she's bi. I guess you can intepret it like that. Maybe she's just a bit embarrassed due to how flirtatious Magnolia is. Piper shuts down Cait pretty quickly when Cait makes a flirt comment about a threesome. Out of anyone, if there's set sexuality, I would put him as gay and Piper as straight. MacCready as straight while Cait is bisexual.

Piper asks "is it warm In here" after Magnolia says one line, and her line was not flirtatious. Piper may just not be into Cait, or threesomes with Anyone.

i didn't say anything about there being an actual relationship. I just recall Danse starting a conversation about Hayden where he comforted her after a tragedy. It's the only real level of emotional interaction I've heard about him having with anyone.

Interactions in Fallout 4 are thin all around so there isn't always that much to work with for any of the characters.

That's what was intended I think. Even Piper's line can be opened for interpretation. I see Danse's lines as in someone who care for his subordinate seeing as the decision he made had an effect not only on him but on his subordinates as well. It was more about his decision making that he was questioning that anything, even Hayden herself has a crush on the other guy, not Danse. I don't see it for him. Piper can be seen that way though. I guess they try to avoid giving the companions any sexual leaning since all the characters are playersexual, and it would allow more freedom to have the characters be opened for intepretations Most Bioware games, even the bisexual options only attract to females mostly. I see it as why I don't like how Bioware handles bisexual options. It's like they're only gay for you and straight otherwise. Bethesda keeps it ambiguous which I feels was good for their game since it's more of an open world RPG rather than story driven game like Bioware.

I'm sure it's hard to realize sexuality in a game with it being such a fluid thing and extremely different from person to person.

The only reason I'd prefer playersexual is because Bioware always keeps the hottest LI straight (the exception is Dorian but they pat themselves on the back for it enough)

Set preferences are more realistic but I'm selfish and I want it all ...

I prefer playersexual too. If it comes down to each VA recording a few more lines so people can romance who they most like, I think it's not too much to ask for.  Of course this is coming from someone who also had to mod to get romances I was interested in (Kaidan in ME 1 and 2, Alistair, and Cullen).

They can still have set backgrounds prior to meeting the PC and be fully fleshed out characters.

For those for set sexualities, I'd love to see the reaction if the KISA is only gay in the next game, and the hot Miranda type is only lesbian, leaving quirky characters for opposite sex options...

Does anyone ever wonder what Hancock looks like? They restore Hancock by removing his ghoulish features and give him the blonde hair as in the concept art.

Fallout4-2015-12-15-22-07-23-49.png

Not as pretty as Danse, but he does match the description when the other NPCs said how handsome he is before the ghoul transformation.

In comparison, with his skin on
