So I've decided to join in after a bit of lurking (plus hey! first post).

But yeah, it would be nice to have a KISA in the next DA, especially since ME did that already. Although in a way (for me, at least) DA2 did it with Hawke (his relationship with Anders was one of the most tender m/m romances in fiction I've ever seen). Anyway, I have faith in Bioware and DA4/Andromeda, the gay romances are miles ahead of the rest of the game industry and made me feel more at ease with myself as a gay man.

Also, it's awesome that most people here love Danse. His romance is great (but would have been better if Bethesda didn't drop his story line like a hot potato). It would have been nice to see him change a little, there's a lot in the game that says he doesn't really despise ghouls. The kid in the fridge, getting pissed at you if you mock Kent from the silver shroud quest and so on. Not to criticize Fallout too much, but the shallow interactions with companions make me appreciate the way BW does it even more (that plus no stupid vertibirds exploding and killing npcs mid-conversation with them).

I love the randomness in Bethesda games. Also Welcome and yay for the first post.

Hmm. Food comparable to the gay KISA... maybe Earl Grey tea with milk? Respectable, healthy, but also a bit unusual.

I do feel like Bethesda was influenced by Bioware in term of creating romantic content. Instead of "Single lady, put a ring on it" in Skyrim without learning about them first.

Danse is my favorite because he's a complex and conflicted character. While his teaching tells him to dislike ghouls, his compassion also makes him sympathize with them and like to help those in need. There is a slight change after he realizes his identity. He used to like it if you talk trash about synth and hates if you sympathize with synth. After that, he hates it regardless of whether you hate synth or love synth. He becomes conflicted about his identity. All of his life has been a lie. What he believes in, what his background have been a lie. He blames the RR for not even bother to give him a good memory of family or siblings. He had a false tragic memory being an orphan and growing up, he's facing even more hardship. Basically his life is full of hardship and half of it is not even real. He's a very tragic character. I think it's a pretty good attempt. Still, I wish they would acknowledge the romance more around other people though. That would make the experience so much better. I would love to see marriage being introduced in there.

It does seem to fit Danse, meat has a masculine tone, that dish also has a country vibe to it. I was thinking of chicken steak but smoked bbq seems to fit him as well. Danse is a real boy scout though, he goes to the bar and asks for non-alcoholic beverage.

I think it would be nice if they're a part of a militant group. I think I want it to be as close to KISA as possible. Kaidan has shades of this, but just seems lacking in term of defining a KISA. Maybe the demeanor, he seems a bit too casual, but then Alistair is not very formal either. Not sure what. lol. I love Kaidan though.

I see where you're coming from. Kaidan has the nobillity, the idealism, the romanticism.

And yet something doesn't quite fit with the KISA archetype. It might be as simple as his combat style, which is more space sorcery. I think it's more than that, though. I think it's something in his demeanor.

Gomez! I always learn about wonderful things when you're around. <3

Cheesecake is heaven.

IT IS. <3 I went with sopaipilla cheesecake because it's delicious it looks fairly unremarkable on the outside, but on the inside it's squishy and sweet and tastes like diabeetus (I'm not saying I just want the warrior version of Safiya but I just want the warrior version of Safiya).

And speaking of learning wonderful things...

I've thought of mine.

For a male KISA, steak tartare with black truffle salt. Nuanced and distinctive, with a hint of unconventional flair.

For a female, milk chocolate and passion fruit ganache. Charming and comforting. Individualistic but not aggressively so.

Brilliant! You've a flair with words, my dear!

Hello and welcome!

Oh god.  You reminded me.....

Kent from the Silver Shroud quest.  I had to start over 3 times to keep him alive.   I can't take it.  He's so friggin adorable.  Him and the Giddy up Buttercup guy, Arlen.

I CAN'T!!!!    I CRIED WHEN ARLEN PLAYED THE HOLOTAPE.

I don't know, it's not bethesda's MO to expand on the main story, they usually do something totally unrelated, probably they'll add some comments from the companions and call it a day :/ But there's always hope

Oh they definitely were. Especially with the approval triggering conversations. But they kinda flunked the pacing, I've maxed out FemShep in an hour by just opening locks.

He is complex and tragic, and that makes it even more frustrating that they didn't develop more on that, they had a fantastic setup and just dropped it. I know about the change in approval and it seems to fit, but I don't know how much you can trust it (in the mission with Covenant he hated every single outcome, so some of the approval triggers are glitched). On that subject, I haven't gotten to that point yet, but is there anything that says that his memories are fake/fabricated by the railroad or was there a paladin Danse and the institute swapped him at some point?

Yeah it would be nice to have someone acknowledge the romance, but again, seems more like a bioware thing

Yeah I had to do it like 8 times, because he must live (he is adorable) and something kept clipping through the wall and triggering the conversation without me there... And Arlen - I think I saw him and wanted to talk to him, thanks for reminding me!

It's funny, Kaidan does fit the KISA archetype for me. Maybe I just like a different kind of KISA.

Danse about broke my heart, despite watching his romance like a hundred times on YouTube I still got so sad when he gives you his speech after idolizing you

Actually, his story was cut short. He's supposed to have an extended follow up storyline where he and the sole survivor go to Elder Maxson and challenge him for the seat. Afterward, he's no longer an outcast and lead the BoS alongside you. You said that while he's a synth, his heart is with the brotherhood and the Institute is still a threat.

One of the terminal somewhere stated that they released synths close to where Danse coming from. On top of that, the Institute NEVER releases synth they couldn't control, the synths always know their purpose. There is absolutely no reason for them to replace synth with a human if the synth has the human memories and is not aware of it. They use the replaced synth to gather info or spy on the Commonwealth.

I think Skyrim had marriage, but I'm not sure why they don't have it in Fallout 4. They have all the components, wedding rings, dress and tuxedo, a pastor, a church, a previous marraige sidequest.

I'm still a bit salty about DAI and how they treat romances just the way they handle it with extra romance options for one group, restrict gameplay element like removing the elf brand and story element about the brand itself to it, then the DLC comes and you can only marriage with either Cullen or Sera. I don't even play DAI's last DLC because of it.

What even more sad is if you two breaking up, he blames it on himself being a synth and said that's why you're distancing yourself from him.

The thing with Danse is unless you bring him along and see what he said and reacted toward other people, you may just find him to be grumpy. While he stands for protecting the weaks, he's also struggling with what the BoS teaches him about the danger of ghouls and synths. He himself likes to help people regardless of whether they're humans or ghouls or even sometimes synths. He's actually the voice of reasons within the BoS.

I wondered if they cut it because of time, budget, or just decided they don't want to go in that direction.

Him going through the railroad was the most obvious, but I had doubts since Deacon or anyone in the RR should have known *something* about Danse. It wouldn't be a reach to think that the institute had a "let's release them without them knowing their origin and see how far they get" phase, but I have to play more to get more info on that.

They could do marriage in skyrim, because the mechanic was simple and changed little, something like that wouldn't fly in F4. I blame it on whatever scripting engine they have set up, if main missions have clipped dialogue and janky pathfinding, a wedding would explode the game.

I've heard about the elf brand (and was kinda creeped out by it), but I haven't played the last DLC yet so I don't know about the rest. I just heard that some people disliked where they went with Dorian's romance.

I think it was cut mostly because it implied you becoming an Elder and Danse a Sentinel, and well it wouldn't work really. An outsider cannot become Elder just like that. It would be disrespectful to the lore. As far as i know that is the only quest content that was cut from the game, so it was probably not a question of resources to implement it, mostly it just didn't fit the game and said lore. That is just my take on it though, i haven't read up on it extensively, only listened to the cut speech from Danse.

Also more Curie!

EDIT - Sorry if this is spoiler stuff, i just don't see anyone else using the tags, so i am letting it all out there.

How about either "Yes, Elder Maxson!" or "Pound away, you supermutant hunk!"

It has to be something he wouldn't say in the heat of the moment... so supermutant hunk it is.

With my BoS ending, I basically can't go anywhere with Danse since they're setting up posts all around the Commonwealth. I just hope there's a solution to have Danse around. Maybe replacing Maxson with a synth. :P

Many people still believe and follow Danse, so I don't care about becoming the Elder, I want to have Danse become the Elder if possible. He's actually like to help people regardless of whether they're humans or ghouls, even against torturing synths, regardless of whether you completed his personal quest or not. Maybe there is a requirement like somehow convince them or prevent the data showing that Danse is a synth, he still knows he's a synth but we could find a way to fabricate evidence with the help of either the RR or the Institute.

why are you telling me those things? There's only so much Danse angst I can handle :o I'm trying so hard to play a rom com game instead of a wasteland war mess lol

I like broken romance where you're their support pillar. That's basically what Danse is, a broken man. A bit of angst is not bad. I'm not a fan of comedic romance like they have with Iron Bull. It wasn't my definition of romance when Cullen and the others walk in on Iron Bull and the Inquisitor.

I wondered if they cut it because of time, budget, or just decided they don't want to go in that direction.

Him going through the railroad was the most obvious, but I had doubts since Deacon or anyone in the RR should have known *something* about Danse. Railroad is a loose organization. They don't keep records, some synths go through facial changes, some are just identity. Not everyone can keep tracks of every synth out there. Some of them they have to do in a hurry if you go through their quest. As for the Institute, even if that's the case, they would know about the existence of Danse, but they never had, nothing in the terminal indicated they're keeping tracks of him. There's just no reason to do so. All the synths being replaced know their purpose.

I wonder how hard it would be to have a few lines changes. Modders do it all the time, Skyrim does it all the time, so I don't suppose it should be that hard. It's more about recognizing a certain vicinity before the scripted line activated. They could also do random generated lines when entering area like some companions had, so they could include romance lines throughout the commonwealth. I don't think how wedding would complicated it, maybe additional lines when talking to them, seeing as they have all the wedding components in the game.
