To think the whole thing could have averted if they had included the cut content for Cullen.

Absolutely this. There's a mod out there that allows male Inquisitors to romance Cullen and aside from some clipping issues and missing/unrecorded lines, it appeared as if everything was pretty much in place.

Seriously, if I was one of the winners of the recent Powerball I would have offered BioWare I would fully underwrite Mr. Rees' studio time to record Cullen's missing dialogue.

DAI was pushed back a full year to include different races. I wouldn't have minded if extra time was needed to include Cullen's content included as well since Cullen would have been my canon Inquisitor's LI.

I guess a friendly game of chess will have to do.  :(

I honestly would have preferred Blackwall rather than Cullen. Mostly, because I am tired of the templar redemption and mage vilification themes that Inquisition had plenty of. Also because when the companions first leaked, Blackwall was immediately embraced by the gay part of the fandom, named Ser Bara or Bara Warden, and most expected him to be bi. Both his story and his romance turned out differently, but still, it's a shame.

Still, I ended up liking him, his dialogue is awesome with Sera, and his fumbling is too funny

(-What do you get the Silverite Wings of Valor for?

-For ... ... valor.)

I mean, look at him

Oh my god he is so gorgeous ;;

I would've preferred Blackwall as well. He is just my type of guy. His banter with Sera made him so much more appealing as well... It was so cute seeing him get all flustered when there was talk about sex and Josie!

I'm worried a gay KISA will take a long, long time since it probably couldn't be a sassy gay stereotype they way Dorian was. It makes me think of how everyone threw a tantrum over Steve Cortez either because he was gay, or because he wasn't a stereotype and therefore not "amusing" Enough. Blah!

That was several years ago, though. Maybe people have risen above that sort of thinking.. I hope so but, I sort of doubt it.

The only problem with Steve I had was that I had to go through *three* conversation checks one after another to activate his romance. Judging by Inquisition, I'm inclined to say we won't get a repeat of that. The tone for Andromeda seems different, so I hope that Ryder (if that's his name) will get a strong stoic gay vanguard to romance.

(And Casey Hudson is gone, so no more of "we only included gay romances, because fans made us")

I want a mature, down to earth kind of KISA, over the top and rash doesn't do it for me anymore xD A soldier to the very core, proud and loyal. It sounds cheesy but man I needs it. They took Cullen from me ><

There were two for one of the Dorian paths, which I thought was odd. This is the one where he initiates the first kiss after a <3 in the conversation. I mean, they have heart icons and everything.

Huh I've seen it, and at least this one kinda makes sense, because Dorian is wary of showing affection in public. With Steve, you were practically grinding on him on the dance floor and he's like "are you sure, are you sure, are you sure" and then a paragon interrupt. But it's kind of a ME vs DA thing, Anders flirts and kisses you, Dorian takes lead after the prompts and kisses you, and in ME you jump through hoops and still you end up the one always taking initiative.

@ Battlebloodmage

I remember seeing that before yeah. Although, it was a long time ago and I'm not sure if it has "those" People who were complaining about everything to do with ME3 back then.

I'll be really disappointed if they do a gay KISA and it ends up being another stereotype like Dorian though. Frankly I'll be kind of turned off if the MEA gay romance choice is anything like that at all, there really need to be more "straight" Seeming men who just happen to like men since that's almost completely unrepresented in everything.

@ dgcatanishiri

The problem with Cullen would have been the same issue they had with Kaidan and Anders who were both straight and seemed straight (Not because they weren't flamboyant, but because they repeatedly mentioned having girlfriends and finding women attractive) and suddenly having their sexuality evolve to include wanting their own gender. It just seems... weird. I'd rather just have a new KISA who's actually really gay, not a heterosexual KISA who suddenly decides they want a relationship with the same sex protagonist because you're just that awesome.

One of the points about the whole KISA thing is to not have a stereotype. Like Blackwall or something.

I'm into eyebrows. I can dig it.

I just love President Obama's eyebrows. They're like fluffy black caterpillars sitting on his face and I want to pet them. (Sorry for the digression into weirdness...)

Dorian seems to remind me too much of Zevran in term of personality. Maybe it's just me, but these types of personality just don't appeal to me. I guess I'm more into clumsy, adorkable personality like Alistair or Danse, maybe shy like Cullen.

Well, gay relationships often only get scraps anyway, so I guess I should be content with what we get. Even when adding more options, they just add 2 more options for female. I'm not against that, I just feel like even with a male heavy group of companions, I doubt it ever cross their mind that maybe more options would be open up to same-sex. I've made peace with it, I'm not really looking forward to the next ME to have our back consider their track record, but maybe they'll surprised me. It's cool to just keep a low expectation instead of getting your expectation crushes with DAI. I have zero interest in any of the option, which I go for Cassandra instead. It was the right choice though since she's very adorable and I love Tsundere characters. What I have against Iron Bull the most is not only the relationship is too joke like, people walking in on them or the Inquisitor can't walk for a day after sex, it's the BDSM not being optional. We will have to break off the relationship if you refuse that offer. As for Dorian, I've already told you why I don't like him. Too much Glee's afterschool special for my taste.

I just hope that one day, they just give us an everyday guy. Why is it so hard to give us guys like Cullen, Alistair, and Kaidan? Seriously, the character model is gay, no gay romance for 3 games, and all they give us is an inferior version from FemShep? I'm glad that some of the developing team left, so maybe now that we would get treated with more respect, but I don't really have a lot of hope at this point right now. As I said, maybe I'll get proven wrong.

Not "some of the team" left. Andromeda is being done by a new studio consisting of new people and some DA people (Bioware Montreal worked on ME3 multiplayer maps and helped a little with DAI DLCs). So cheer up, previous track record means little. The guy who was so opposed to it isn't even working at BW anymore. (And Gaider joined the old ME team as lead writer, so I wouldn't worry about the new IP too much - it's not like he never makes mistakes, but I believe the sexy asari lesbians/bisexuals would not have happened in the terrible way it did if he was lead back then).

It's just how I perceive them. I don't like either because the charming rogue is just never my style. I've never gotten the appeal, I guess, but the biggest problem for me was his story, but we had already discussed this a lot already in  term of Dorian. Zevran made a bit uncomfortable in the reason why he likes men. He was basically "trained" into that role or was forced to depending on how you interpret his story. It wasn't just something I've comfortable with.

Oh... I did a male play and started the romance path on one occasion but never finished -- I was never happy with any of my male DAO PCs. I didn't know that. Yeah, that adds an rather disturbing element to it. However, you could also argue something similar with Fenris in DA2, but he still goes for male Hawke anyway.

As much as I like both Dorian and Fenris, I think we just need to have a gay male romance where the homosexuality isn't an issue, or there is no past abuse. It would really go toward the normalization of such relationships that I would like to see in all entertainment media.

that's why I want a gay character with 0 issues because of his sexuality. I don't want a trained male assasin-courtesan, not a former slave and not someone with more baggage than my bottomless carry weight.

Everyday guy, comfortable with his sexuality, no issues because of it, he just likes men because he likes men.

I did like Dorian though, his humor rubbed me the wrong way sometimes because I don't like it when everything is turned into a sass fest or a joke but I think he covered up a lot of pain with it so I dealt with it and romanced him anyways for the lack of another gay option really xD, I really do love him tho, I do.

I do have a type I guess, Kaidan and Danse... I love those 2 more than I love Cullen and I love Cullen a lot.

FWIW, I never got the impression that Zevran was "made" to like men. It sounded to me like the Crows looked for bisexuality to be already present in their recruits, because it makes it easier to seduce and get close to various targets...

But personality-wise, I get why he's not everybody's cup of tea (even if he... and Dorian and Sera and Isabela... and other "roguish" but fundamentally good-hearted characters are totally my type). I mostly support the KISA archetype for the sake of other players, because there hasn't been that representation and experience for a lot of LGB people, rather than any interest of my own. Different strokes!

From the other thread, I just wanted to say, a lot of the things I think about Dorian are coloured by my experiences as a gay man and I realize that. I'm not opposed to any view you have on him, that thread just made me really irritated. Aside from the ritual, which was to change Dorian's orientation, and it makes me irrationally angry if anyone denies that, I don't really feel that strongly about the rest. I like him, but I have far more passion for discussing Hawke, Anders, Isabella, and Morrigan.

(sorry for doing this here, I didn't want to derail the Dorian thread and this kinda feels like home turf. Now back to KISA)

I think he said something more like "I'm not surprised by/opposed to gay relationships, because I was raised in the brothel, so I saw that kind of stuff," but I'm not sure I'm remembering it correctly.

Edit: Found it!
around 24:20
"I grew up amongst Antivan whores, men and women both. My introduction to the subject of sex was, shall we say, rather practical. My only rule regarding sex is that it be done well. It's a certain open-mindedness that the Crows seeks in their recruits, for very good reasons."
So, you're right.

^Thanks for the link! There's also this,

Warden: But I'm a man.
Zevran: *laughs* Oh... you are speaking seriously, aren't you? I do forget that this is not Antiva City. We are... a little more open-minded about such things, where I hail from.
