They don't do it on propose so I don't hold it against them.
They sure seem to be doing it on purpose.
For example, what type of weaponry might we want to see with our gay KISA's? Are we strict sword and board fans? Claymores? Warhammers? I've personally always found mace and shield warriors to be hot. Or one handed axe and shield.
I would like if they were able to use a kind of lance or some other pole weapons, though that may be because I want those in Dragon Age.

Absolutely. While sure being able to explore a demisexual romance would be nice, I'd be more than fine with it if they just had them as a non-romancable companion. Just like I've seen some transgendered people being more than pleased if we have a transgendered person like Mae as a companion even if they aren't romancable. Eventually both groups would want a romance option to be them, but even having a companion who is would be a huge step and one welcomed wholeheartedly.
Then I think you and Sandal were interpreting the discussion in radically different ways. When you talked about a gay KISA character who isn't romanceable, he very reasonably considered the finite number of characters they have to work with, and that it would be a shame if some people who are interested in having a romanceable gay KISA ended up having one in the party and out of reach romance wise again.
It isn't that unlikely that there might be three gay companions, but it is unlikely that there would be three gay companions who all fit the KISA archetype. Sandal expressed the wish that as many people might have enjoyable options as possible.
Don't suggest an idea unless it involves sex with the protagonist, got it.
^ He was very definitely not shutting down suggestions, or implying that options involving sex were the only ones welcome.

I suppose you're right. We're lucky to get three genuinely good characters like a KISA at all, let alone all of them being LGBT+. Maybe after they make some as romances, they can make one who isn't.

Let's try to keep the discussions steering less towards demisexuality writ large (there's a thread on this after all) or comments towards specific individuals that might be perceived as personal and more towards gay KISA's, huh?
For example, what type of weaponry might we want to see with our gay KISA's? Are we strict sword and board fans? Claymores? Warhammers? I've personally always found mace and shield warriors to be hot. Or one handed axe and shield.
I really can't decide. I think sword and board is the most iconic, but there's something so imposing about a two handed sword wielder that it's inherently kind of sexy.
Whats the problem with staff?
I don't recall anyone in this thread implying that there was a problem. In fact, a few people in this thread expressly prefer the idea of a tank LI because they as players love to be squishy range characters, and they enjoy the notion of having the LI play the protective role on the battlefield.
Unfortunately, the implication that the request for variety indicates a complaint with the current offerings has been a recurring misconception in this thread.
A food metaphor usually serves as a handy counter. I.e. "I love chocolate, but I'd like to have other options as well. May I have strawberry at some point in the future?"

I think I like sword and great sword, something traditional. Staff as in magic would be yet another gay mage character that we have. I would really prefer if it's a warrior to be honest, unless the staff is used to knock out some heads.
Anyway, it would be cool if they're loyalty. Both Alistair and Sebastian are the only straight options in their game and they're both loyalty. I wouldn't mind a noble or prince, combining knight in shining armor with prince charming. I probably would lose sleep over such a character if it happened. ![]()
I'm still deciding if I want a KISA to be a bit of a jerk. I don't want him to be too perfect or a doormat like Blackwall. Probably still my obsession with Danse character. I like how much of a jerk he is, not because he's a jerk, but he's a conventional KISA and it fits with what the traditional view of knights. I don't really want a completely friendly guy, but definitely can't be evil. More like a jerk with a heart of gold.

Yes. He can definitely be a bit of a jerk and opinionated, as long as the romance is every bit of prince(ss) fantasy I've hoped for.

I'd like to see a Halberd just because it looks good. I will settle for a sword and shield kind of guy/gal OR a combat staff wielding bad ass with 0 magic talent

I do hope he's more reserved though. Most of the gay characters are either experienced or kinda sexually liberated. Danse kinda hits the trifecta for me. I would have mentioned Cullen, but he's not romanceable. lol. I wish he wear his lion helmet more often, he looks more dashing in it though. With ME, not sure which faction in the next game could qualify a character as a KISA though, maybe space peacekeeper or something, not sure. XD

So maybe a tal-vashoth qunari? There's banter with IB and Sera where he talks about how Qun keeps their savage natures in check and if he presses those feelings down they could break out and he could end up hurting someone he cared about. I think they could work this angle pretty well in the romance, it'd be awfully cheesy but so good!

Well thanks for confirming this place is a hugbox mod. Sorry for "insulting". Only the post where I mentioned Hanako could even begin to be remotely considered "insulting". You're only strengthening my stance.
How is it even considered a place for discussion if it's more censored than television ?

I'd be so disappointed if the gay KISA would be a Qunari I can't even put it in words. No offense to anyone who loves the Qunari, I just don't ... unless they go back to what they looked like in DA2 ... then I might reconsider

My best guess backstory-wise for a Mass Effect KISA would either be a member of the military/security or maybe one of the new races follow a kind of warrior's code similar to knights. Class-wise probably Soldier or Vanguard would fit best since those are the Warrior classes of Mass Effect, with Adepts and Sentinels being the Mages and Engineers and Infiltrators being the Rogues.

As much as I love Qunari I would love them even more if they went back to the DA2 Qunari.
I could settle for a dwarf though. Human or elf would really disappoint me.
Honestly the only thing I truly need is for them to treat me like a fellow man and not a princess unless I act like it. No IB 2.0 please.

I wasn't being fully serious in that post. I know that romance =/= sex. I've been arguing that a lot in the MEA forums.
Didn't pick up on that, my bad. And those forums are scary, seems like full blown war over there.

It's fun for me to mess with people over there while fleeing to prevent damage to yourself... It's how I survived there with my sanity intact.

I can see where Biotic A is coming from, although perhaps the wording isn't the most eloquent. The "Shepard can't be gay (and male)" debacle was really offensive and insulting. Those of us who were around for it might be holding onto those feelings a bit longer than we need to, but I understand why. You have to remember that we've only gotten 1 ME game with gay male options (one is an NPC with fairly little content and the other was a straight female PC romance repurposed - ie content removed to make it work - for a gay male PC). And that followed two games of being insulted by the Bioware soundbytes about how (paraphrased) Shep can be anything you want him/her to be except for a gay male because in that one aspect for that one gender, he's arbitrarily been decided to be a "pre-set" character. Combined with an embarrassing amount of 'insert foot into mouth' rationalizing about why male Shep can't be gay. It stung and it really put off many fans. I can see why Biotic A is using the term "straightwashing", although it wouldn't be my term for it. So there's still a level of mistrust from the ME team about this kind of content. They've yet to actually provide a well thought out and in-depth m/m romance in that series. So the hesitation is still there for ME: A.
The term isn't the nicest, but considering what was happening, I think its use here is excused. The whole 'you can roleplay anyone, but not a gay man, because *some weak excuse here*' left me really mad at first and later disappointed. I didn't pick ME up until 3 was on its way and gay romances were confirmed. Still, I'm happy MEA is in new hands. With a mix of some DA people and "fresh blood," I think we can expect some better LGBT characters.

It's exused? Excuse you, but the term in general is like me saying "Gaywashed." It's annoying. Or at least to me it is....
