You know, if they are in Nevarra next season, maybe we can have a gay Dragon Hunter? Cassandra has an uncle or cousin who is a world renowned Dragon Hunter. Maybe he or one of his colleagues could be a gay/lesbian/bisexual KISA?

A gay dragon hunter?

Ultimate win.

YES.

As long as they haven't said they are not interested in the same gender, I'm completely fine with things like Kaidan in ME3. I think it's fair for a bisexual person to approach different genders differently when it comes to romance.

Exactly. Until a character identifies their sexuality or a dev confirms through Word of God, it's not a retcon.

If they did the reverse and made a gay character suddenly attracted to the opposite sex as well, there would be tons of hate. I see no difference between that and making a straight character suddenly attracted to the same sex as well.

A Nevarran Dragon Hunter....with Cass's accent. I'd romance that gorgeous creature in a heartbeat.

I'd take that dragoon's lance all day ;)

Not to sound too greedy, but as long as he's bisexual, I'd be very very happy.  :wizard:

Oh, but of course! As long as I get him too, I don't mind sharing this one! Such perfection must be experienced by all.

There is a huge difference. There are plenty of straight characters everywhere and comparatively few gay and bisexual characters.

There's no real history of widespread erasure of straight identity, but plenty of gay identity.

I will also add that characters like Cortez and Samantha pretty much indicate that they are gay and whereas Kaidan and Anders do not outright indicate they are straight. Just that they are attracted to women.

But Kaidan never said he wasn't interested in men, as when you're playing with MShep, the only woman he mentions specifically is Rahna, and even then, he only said he cared for her.

For your example to work, it would more akin to making a gay character bi, which if handled correctly, wouldn't be an issue either.

As weird as it sounds, I felt like he was more Shepard sexual. I don't know if there's a word really for it, but he seemed like he was straight, but he fell in love with a Shepard of either gender.

Straight, with a side of bisexuality for Male Shepard?

Alright, the Dragon Hunter is too much win to be exclusive.  Bisexual it is.

Honestly, I do think that an explicitly gay character being made bisexual would be bad.

The thing is though, Kaidan and Anders do not really work in Kallen's hypothetical because they were never confirmed as straight to begin with.

Wouldn't bi-curious still work? Since he falls for male Shep

So it is fine to make a straight person not straight but not fine to make a gay person not gay? You are doing the same thing to both people: changing their orientation to something else. You either have to be fine with both or fine with neither.

Does bi-curious apply here? I have no clue if the term could really be applied in this scenario? Maybe bi-curious does work.

But only Shepard, though.

I guess he's just bisexual, with a primary attraction to Shepard, and may have not experience any attraction to other men.

I wouldn't like confirmed straight characters being turned not straight either - but I still don't think it's the same as turning confirmed gay characters bisexual, for the reasons I've already stated.

The thing you seem to be missing here is that Kaidan never said he was straight. He never said that he was only interested in women. He just wasn't available for romance in male Shepard in ME1. I don't think it's unreasonable that a bisexual man takes longer to realize attraction to or make moves on other men, or anything else like that.

Maybe he's demi-bisexual (if I'm using the terms from earlier in this thread correctly) as in, he's only attracted to people he has romantic feelings towards, but those people could be of either sex (I'm sorry but I see sex and gender as two different things).

Exactly. I don't remember of Steve actually identified as gay or just interested in men. I've never played a female in ME3, so I don't know he turns her down. Samantha definitely identified as lesbian. However, if Steve didn't identify as gay and was revealed to be bisexual, I'd be fine with it. I'd be disappointed because we've only ever had 5 gay and lesbian companions/LIs, but it wouldn't be a retcon in my mind.

I agree that it's not exactly the same thing when a minority group is on the receiving end as the majority group, but I don't think it's off limits.

I might be wrong, but I don't think the game will let you hit on Steve as a female Shepard.
