I've just never seen or related to how fiction tries to compare my experience with sexuality to, basically, having superpowers. Like True Blood. Being bi is not like being thousands of years and and having the ability to fly (eventually). Or X-Men. Again, being bi, not like shooting lasers from your eyes.

I just think Alistair is too insecure to fit the trope as I think of it. I think part of what makes a KISA work is a kind of - confident fervor. That's something Cassandra has, even as she struggles with self-doubt re: her faith, that I think Alistair is missing.

That's fair, I just think of his personality as being a different type of character. Albeit he does quite literally get shinning armor.

The only parable I've actually related to is the IB. Because what he struggles with his his identity and place in the world. That resonates with me a lot more.

But these depictions are not supposed to be a 1:1 analogue to real world situations. The writers take real world concepts, like discrimination, and work them into a fantasy setting with people who control time, and magic warriors who slurp a singing mineral. Characters struggle with addiction, but lyrium clearly differs from real life drugs. And mages may seem similar in struggles to LGBTs, but they are very different. Especially since mages are not stand-ins for LGBT people, since they also exist in Thedas.

 

And I've related to some of the struggles Anders went through, while Bull's story didn't really do much for me. LGBT people are a varied group and many stories, while not being coded as directly related to our struggles, may speak to us. Much what Anders said about mages resonated for me on some level, but that doesn't mean being a mage is a metaphor for being gay. And you finding Bull's story compelling doesn't mean leaving the Qun is a metaphor for coming to terms with one's sexuality, for example.

People are afraid from they think to be dangerous: for example mages in Thedas (or the thinking people in many places on the real world). The people will try to keep under control these dangerous persons. Whoever gets the task of control over another people, gets power over people, for example templars in Thedas.

 

People who are given power over another people, can easily misue his power, and become a mad / monster. Than mages and than templars (and lots of other examples from real life).

 

Those who think more important the order and security than freedom, they approve the strong control. Those who consider personal freedom more important, they do not approve of excessive control, and if it is not reduced they begin revolt.

 

That's so simple, do not need to seek another allegory (which does not rule out the possibility – The fact that someone is paranoid, does not mean that he are not persecuted. ).

Like, sure, it's not the same as shooting laser beams out of your eyes, or being able to grow bone claws, or telekinesis, but like those abilities, people who aren't able to do that get scared of this thing that's different, that makes you separate from them. That's the idea of these stories.

Back to the KISA thing... have you all discussed gingers yet? It's not my type normally, but it would be super fun to finally have a ginger LI. Although we had Leliana (LI) and Oghren (not LI) with red hair, the only follower that was a true ginger was Avaline, but she wasn't an LI.

That guy is like a sexy Poseidon! I I prefer him with the chest hair, he looks a bit strange with a waxed chest. He's honestly older than I would normally go for, but I wouldn't kick him out of bed!

 

TBH though, I've never found the Qunari attractive and don't think that's going to change. They're just too alien looking for me.

I'm always going to prefer that the gay LIs be humans or dwarves, with qunari lower on the list, and elves at the bottom of the heap.  (That said, I like IB and Fenris just fine, so it can work).

 

You mentioned "alien people."  When it comes to literal aliens a la Mass Effect, I don't think I can do it.   Personally, I really, really hope they don't give us a gay male alien romance in ME:A.  Even if the alien is a new species.  With the way they've depicted the male aliens thus far:  Turians, and Drell, I don't think I could do the romance without it being weird.  I can't do the carapace or bug eyes thing.

*adjusts spectacles* We have crunched the numbers, and have come to the conclusion that a ginger dude is long overdue.

Y'all crack me up. I do think a redheaded fella would be a nice change of pace. (What was with Sebastian's color scheme, anyway? Sort of reddish hair, tan skin, ELECTRIC TEAL eyes?!)

Let's see... for the gents we've had three blondes: Zevran, Anders, and Fenris (err...sorta), one brunette: Dorian, one baldie: Bull (who has dark stubble but still!), and zero redheads. And for the ladies... one blonde: Sera, three brunettes: Isabela, Merrill, and Josephine, zero baldies, and one redhead: Leliana. Did I get them all?

Clearly we need a ginger dude and a bald lady. (I was soooo in love with Safiya from MotB, and I'm forever bitter that she was supposed to be bisexual before the moral guardians stepped in and changed it. She's clearly in love with the PC regardless of gender, BUT I DIGRESS.)

In a fantasy game does not bother me so much the alien look, but I'm also prefer in the romance someone who is less alien. (The DA2 qunary apperance was not too alien for me)

 

Fenris's romance not that's why was so good, because he is a beautiful elf – I think. At first glance I does not interested his apperance.

Yeah I didn't find their faces attractive in DA2 but I liked the less human features to differentiate them from the "tall ashen skinned humans with horns" that are DAI's Qunari. Plus I didn't mind them strutting around Kirkwall in leather gear.

Because I'd still want to bonk someone human looking, just wearing a warrior's outfit or a mage's easy-lift robes.

 

I guess it depends on what you consider unconventionally handsome. The Poseidon guy I would consider conventionally attractive, just not the conventional age of sexual desirability. I don't need a male model, but I would rather someone conventionally attractive, whether that's a rugged dwarf or a more angular human, over a conventionally unattractive guy like IB. IMO. Personality and Qunari aside, I find IB's face very unattractive. His proportions don't match.

I would enjoy a gay male dwarf, as long as he's more of a Renn and less of an Oghren.

 

I am personally not attracted to alien romances, but I also don't want m/m options limited to aliens because it would feel like pushing the "less desirable" romance to gay players. Female aliens are attractive, mostly green-skinned women. Male aliens are not attractive and usually more of an animal-human hybrid rather than human-lite. I know others will disagree, this is just my stance on the aliens we've had so far in ME.

 

I mean, if there are six romances in MEA (and then I'll stop being off topic), straight guys get one human and one asari, straight women get one human and one drell/turian/new species, lesbians get an asari and a human, and gay guys get two aliens, that would not be fun. I doubt that will happen though.

And Samson has that beaten down drunkard puppy look, and I find it alluring. He looks like someone who has never been loved and cared for, and I'm SUPER into those kinds of men, well, in games anyway. His voice makes my loins burn, too. Damn that voice, so amazing.

Humans have the tendency to be boring, especially next to races like dwarves and qunari. A game that allows you to romance someone, but your option is the one that you can see millions of in real life? No thank you. I want something new, interesting, cool, weird. That keeps me interested and wanting to know more. There's more allure to a dwarf or a qunari, maybe even an elf. Human's don't have that allure if you don't go the unconventional handsome path.

 

Games usually have conventionally pretty people, for a reason of course. But I find myself NOT really into that, in games anyway, where there is a possibility for so much more than what is offered in real life. I will probably go kick a puppy if the next gay LI is going to be a short-haired human with a little scruff. That's not fun for me, when I could've had more, unless their story and romance is beyond fantastic, then of course I can forgive a little.

Honestly, Samson looks like he has a skin condition. That doesn't make anyone with skin conditions less attractive, but in his case it seems to be a result of all that red lyrium. He looks really unhealthy and a drug addict.

 

I like to pretend that Sebastian experimented in his reckless youth and found out he enjoyed the company of men too much, so went running back to the Chantry.
