I wouldn't like confirmed straight characters being turned not straight either - but I still don't think it's the same as turning confirmed gay characters bisexual, for the reasons I've already stated.

"Making a gay person not gay is terrible, but making a straight person not straight while bad isn't nearly as bad." Got it.  <_<

The thing you seem to be missing here is that Kaidan never said he was straight. He never said that he was only interested in women. He just wasn't available for romance in male Shepard in ME1. I don't think it's unreasonable that a bisexual man takes longer to realize attraction to or make moves on other men, or anything else like that.

You mean ignoring the times after ME1 when Bioware referred to Kaidan as straight? Earlier it was agreed Word of God counts.

Then again, it isn't the first time Bioware retconned character's sexualities to be more LGBT-friendly.

So it could be a reverse Kaidan?

...My mind is in the wrong place.  That sounds rather kinky.  :P

Plus, the cover sayin about Rahna, the girl from his youth, is hardly compelling evidence. He calls her special but then goes on to say that everyone cared for her and protected her. It's probably intended to say that he had romantic or sexual feelings towards her, buts it's not explicitly said anywhere. His sexuality was never clearly defined anywhere in the setting.

Do you have a source for that?

Frankly, it seems to me that it's similar to the reason why you weren't as up-in-arms about Fenris being revealed to be bisexual but were deeply offended when Merrill was. Why? Because Merrill represented you and you want to see more of that representation.

In context of historical and contemporary gay discrimination and lack of gay characters in media? Yea, that's it exactly.

Assuming that is correct, you'll need to bring up your sources.

I don't really pay any mind to the whole Rahna thing because Kaidan can be romanced by female Shepard anyway (finding her beautiful etc). And also makes comments about asari and finding EDI's new body hot.

Fenris was already said to be bisexual by one of the employees at Bioware before the GaymerX this year. They said there was 1 heterosexual(Sebastian), 2 bisexual(Fenris and Isabela), and 2 ambiguous(Anders and Merrill).

Do you have a source for that?

No, I don't. When I look it up all the results are about his change in ME3.

Apparently 7 year old tweets aren't the first things to come up. :P

It's hypocrisy and double standards like this when it comes to these issues that really yank my chain and stops any real progress from being made. You don't care about equality for everyone, you care about equality for you.

Anders had been confirmed as bisexual by Gaider on his On Naders blog post last year. I've never seen it confirmed about Fenris. Are you sure you aren't mixing them up?

What??  I've read for several years that Anders was bisexual.  I can dig up posts going back at least 3 years confirming that Anders was bisexual.  I only learned about Fenris and Merrill being bisexual at GaymerX.

Let's reign this in. This is supposed to be a constructive thread. About our love affairs with gallant heroes who love the women and men who love them.

Yeah, this.

I am sure. I remember that for each group it was one human and one elf.

Not saying Gaider didn't also say Anders was, but I saw Fenris said to be one as well.

You need to realize that you can't really equate the cultural significance of straight characters to gay characters. They are not the same. Treating them the same is ignoring so many important things about inclusion and representation of gay characters in media. If you can't understand that, then I imagine discussing this further is pointless.

A person is a person. A character is a character. They are exactly the same in terms of being treated equally.

If you can't realize this, then people will always be divided on the issue and progress will never occur.

Okay, I'll take an Alistair/Cassandra mix for the lesbian/bisexual ladies, and you guys can have a good Blackwall/Alsitair mix with a dash of dragon slaying badass for both of us.  Sound good?

Yes please!

Opening scene for the character has them swoop in and take out a high dragon solo...
