When you meet her she had fallen to the dark side. I don't think she really counts.

She has a slip up sure, but after that she fits the archtype. If a slip up makes you not the archtype, then half the people given as examples don't count.

well I havent played Kotor 1 in ages , so I maybe wrong . But doesn't Juhani say Revan is the one who was an inspiration and saved her and gave her a dream to seek the Jedi ?

And knight is the one who does the inspiring no ?

So Alistair and Cassandra aren't then either? After all, they were inspired by others.

Dorian's absolutely great! But I still would like to break the gay mages and rogues stereotype in the DA cycle. All the noble warriors have been straight thus far.

Ah, I understand what you mean. We certainly haven't seen a character like this in Bioware game before, would be interesting. That reminds me, there is a mod for Baldur's Gate II for a gay Cleric or Paladin character, I don't remember how he was called though. Bioware should definitely take some ideas from modders as they seemed to have gotten there first. ;)

I'm actually quite the opposite. I'm kind of sick of knights in armor we girls keep getting, so I would like someone like Bishop from NWN2 for a change, even though its unhealthy for our sanity and many people hate this type of character.

What's this about Fenris being raped by Danrius? While that would explain Fenris' behavior, I don't remember it ever being implied in the game.

Well to be honest I never saw Alistair as a knight..unless we are talking class ?? and Cass fit the knight cose she taking charge in recruiting the members for inquisition...

So maybe its more how do you view a knight

I think that this is funny.  Bioware keeps rolling out this archetype from one group who is kind of over it (I've seen numerous other straight gals say this too) and there is another group of players who keeps begging for this story to be told from their perspective and.....zip.  Hopefully they'll mix things up next time and try out some new archetypes.  Starting with this one.... ;)

I don't think I've ever seen a gay knightly type in other media. Can anyone name some examples?

If BioWare did this, it would certainly be quite unique.

Oh I agree so much. I'll buy 4 copies of this game if that ever happens. To be honest I think you will be getting your shining knight earlier than we will be getting our dark knight, if ever. All the knight types Bioware produced were great but I think it simply isn't good at making really dark and dangerous characters.

As someone who has been enamored with the paladin archetype since I was a kid, and especially lady knights, the idea of having a f/f love interest who is a knight in shining armor would be amazing.  Of course I'm all for the male version too, and honestly I'm surprised that a gay/bisexual male character hasn't fit this role in a Dragon Age game yet.

For anyone saying "you already got LGB romances, why are you still complaining", it's about diverse representation.  Genuine representation means as many different kinds of LGBT characters as we already see of straight characters.

The closest I've seen is Loras in the GoT show (not books).

I was recently reading about a children's book that got published recently in which a prince and knight (both male) embark on a journey to save the princess (I think the implication is that whoever saves her gets to marry her), but on the way they fall in love with each other instead.  (I think they still rescue the princess and don't leave her stranded..... "We're in love now, so bye Felicia!")  How f-ing cute is that story?!?  Where was that book when I was a little gay kid pining for my own knight!

I'm for there being diverse representation, unless it comes at the cost of representation of others, in which case I can't support it.

Can't remember where I first saw it, but a quick google search makes me think it's "The Bravest Knight Who Ever Lived".  My details were a little off, but I'm pretty sure that this is the one that I was reading about.

...I honestly think part of the problem is the Dragon Age universe itself. Homosexual relationships are still considered at least "quirky" if not disapproved of in many Thedas societies. Gay marriage isn't recognized by the Chantry and probably not by the Stone either. Characters like Aveline and Donnic marry for love, so it's not like it's just a matter of political benefits and child bearing. Gaider has confirmed that homophobia exists in the universe (which makes sense, considering how the male PC can react to Zevran and Anders)

The universe is already at least somewhat exclusionary, even though it did not have to be.

Got to say as much as I want the nice shiny knight, I would also love an actually black as pitch evil guy. More along Morrigan's type - but much meaner and without the softer side :P Dave had a crush on the Prince from Sleeping Beauty - the first crush i ever remember was Venger from the Dungeon and Dragons cartoon. I'm really not sure what that says about me...

What about Dorian ? He seems quite noble and wants to save his country from corruption.

Although Aveline isn't a LI, she is also an example of a straight character who fits the knight in shining armor archetype.

Aveline isn't straight. She responds to female Hawke's flirts the same way she does to male Hawke's, and even kisses her if she flirts with her at the end of the Donnic-setup quest.

Otherwise, I am in complete agreement.

Oh, I agree with this wholeheartedly. I have a hard time not romancing Alistair because I'm a sucker for the noble, chivalrous characters and their romance tropes, and a lady knight akin to a bi/lesbian Joan D'arc would make my heart flutter. It's rare to see straight female warriors - I think the most prominent one is, what, Brienne of Tarth? - but I'd really like that, especially if it didn't fall into the manly lesbian stereotype.

I had my hopes up for Cas and got seriously heartbroken that she's straight. I spent a good weekend nursing a bottle of booze and listening to rolling in the deep and everything; very sad breakup mood, tragic really. I got such a huge crush on her.

Why can't I give you ten likes for this post.  Venger?!?  That's awesome.

Of course, I liked the blond ranger and leader of the group.  And, also of course, he was dating the red-head thief gal....  Boo!

Are we sure the kiss is romantic in nature? I know that it happens if you constantly try to flirt with her, but she gives it in thanks for helping her with Donnic.

That's what I thought as well. I didn't read it as sexual or a romantic kiss.
