Aria falls exactly within the typical bisexual stereotypes in DA.

* Uses sexuality? Check

* Criminal or nefarious past? Check

* Morally gray?  Check

I can understand why people like her, but she seems like the opposite of what this thread is asking for......

That's a good point. I think Sandal is asking for an idealised "Joan of Arc" type character and I can definitely get behind that (giggity) but the thing that bugs me with S/S characters is that it's always a thing to some degree that needs discussing. So I'd like to add to Sandal's request that in addition of being morally above reproach and fervent in their desire for good the Gay-knight-in-shining-armour also have their being gay a complete non-issue.

Although I do love those bad girls.

You know, I never really thought about it like this before. When I picture the typical bisexual stereotypes I picture Isabella and Zev. While the things you listed are true for both Jack and Aria, I don't consider them to be the same type of character. Am I alone in that?

I was under the impression that Aria was a lesbian, or as lesbian as an asari can be, anyway.

Yeah Aria appeals on the power house badass lady in charge lesbian level. If she was bisexual, she'd fall into more of that tired trope, but even with that,.the thing I like about her is that we aren't supposed to fix her, or command her, or whatever. She's not ambiguous or shifty, she straight up tells you who she is and she means it---she's not hiding a puppy dog heart. She also makes a good contrast to the ME f/f options.

KISA > all, but. Unf.

It's a very specific/limited list of characteristics, so the characters have a range of idiosyncrasies that define them as different. Zevran is the more moral of the four to me, largely because his morals are flexible because of a job which he clearly indicates there is significant separation from toward the end of his arc. Isabela, Jack and Aria are about self-preservation and from that their morals develop differently.

I guess it really comes down to what you mean exactly by "type"?

I lied it then I played it and decided to take the like away.

That's going to haunt me for a while!

Better, still not good but better.

Exactly. Until a character identifies their sexuality or a dev confirms through Word of God, it's not a retcon.

And frankly even when a character says it that's not necessarily definitive. WOG is different, but sexuality isn't always obvious to people.

If Alistair decides to try some lampost in DAI that doesn't mean he didn't view himself as straight in DAO or that Bioware retconned his sexuality.

I thought I was straight until I was 19, did I retcon and erase my own sexuality? :lol:

Boy if you could do that, I'd retcon a good chunk of high school away.  :P

Oh I don't know, not on my end. If there was a romance with a character like Aria, it would appeal to me as a f/f one even tho I'm bi and love having bi LI. I actually haven't even played Omega...I need to get on that. :lol:

I think the issue here is labeling, no one needs to label the LI anything, it's just a matter of what that LI responds to in-game. Sorry I'm just having mental imagery of "DON'T PUT ME IN THE BOX JOHNNY!!!".

And this is all why I'd like our KISA, if he or she ever appears, to be a brand new character.  As much as I was excited about the possibility of Cullen for about a minute, we would have been inundated with retcon threads.  I want the KISA to be free of that kind of 'controversy'.

Or what the LI labels themselves in game! Samantha Traynor made it pretty clear she wasn't into dudes, wouldn't be cool with that being changed.

There's a place for stories about gay characters falling in love with opposite sex characters, or realizing they are bisexual...but with how unique and important the gay characters are still right now, it ain't Bioware games.

I'm still bummed about Cullen. I heard from a friend (who knows people I'll be very vague here) a long time ago that he was a planned bi LI, and idk if she was confused/lying to me, or things changed, but I had taken that as a given so it's taking me awhile to get over that disappointment. My fault I suppose for getting attached to it, lol.

I do agree though Dave, the retcon charges would have been awful and as a bisexual who hasn't always been open or even aware of it, I already find the Anders/Kaiden discussing upsetting enough. Also Cullen is such a polarizing character, haha.

From what the Devs have said the M/F LIs were IB and Blackwall and the M/M were IB and Dorian. Cullen was a later addition with Solas.

Yeah, Cullen and Solas apparently came on due to the extra year.

Yes and she said they were adding him as a bisexual option...But again, she might have been confused or working with faulty info, or they really did want to and couldn't fit it in. Doesn't matter either way, since he's straight in the game. I'm sure she was just wrong though. But it bummed me out. Don't believe friends lies! :P

And yet you are completely fine with stories about straight characters falling in love with same sex characters or realizing they are bisexual.

Smell that? It is the smell of hypocrisy.

Do I really have to explain how "making a gay person bi is not okay but making a straight person bi is okay" is hypocritical?
