That makes me kind of angry.  Not the protected part.  The part where they 'ran out of time' and now we don't get to romance him.  I agree that it's too late to 'change it', but it's really ****** bullshit that this happened.  Okay.  I'm actually taking a step away from the forums for a bit because I'm that ****** angry about this.  Seriously ****** pissed.

I will admit, that if we found out about this sooner, like say right after they revealed that both Blackwall and Solas were straight, then I really would have been pissed off as well.  It is unfortunate, though.

As happy as I am with Dorian, I'm more than a little miffed about this. I just desperately want to feel like I get to make a choice when it comes to playing as a gay man in a Bioware game, just once. Of course they can't write to everyone's taste, but that's three games in a row that one of the guys is completely repellent to me as a love interest. It would have been so satisfying to actually get to choose between Dorian and Cullen.

I agree. As of right now, I can only see my gay guy Inquisitors with Dorian. With all that I've heard about Bull in the LI department, I can't romance him. Cullen would have been great. Sigh.  I will stay positive though.

Rats, so close then.

Still though, I will be happy with what I got in DA:I, and hope for a future gay/bi KISA.  I don't expect them to "change" Cullen now that he is straight in the base game. Honestly, I don't think they should at this point.

I would lose a lot of respect for Bioware if they did change it so Cullen was suddenly bisexual in a game where on release he was heterosexual.

Basically the reason why I'm glad they kept Cullen straight. And as eyezonlyii said, we'll probably get a KISA without all of Cullen's baggage in the next game which works just fine for me.

Granted, I haven't romanced him and I haven't seen his romance on Youtube, but I've heard that he has dialogue about being the dominant one in the relationship and wants the Inquisitor to be submissive. All the time, no exceptions. I'd like my Inquisitor to be equal in all aspects of the relationship, and it is easier to see that with Dorian.

He only says that in one line IIRC. Personally I thought his romance was a bit sweeter than Dorian's, but overall, I find them both kind of scummy in their own ways.

To be fair, that point is only in reference to the bedroom. Everywhere else, you're in charge. And there's banter with Cole about how the Inquisitor is *actually* the one in charge because, "...though he submits, you serve..." Basically Bull does whatever the Inq is comfortable with, though as he says, Cole is "ruining the mystery". However, if you're talking about sexual inclinations, then Bull is always a top, even when he gets with Dorian, so at least it's not inconsistent.

Yeah, you've described it pretty accurately.  It becomes more clear as the romance goes on that the Inquisitor is actually the one in control and Bull is simply providing what he thinks the Inquisitor needs.  If you go along with the romance, it's true that it's what you need.  However, it was a little tough to accept at first for me.  It definitely puts you in a submissive role and Bull manhandles you (in appropriate ways).  They also make no bones about the fact that Bull is the top and the Inquisitor is the bottom. Bull flat out says it in one the romance scenes.  It took me a few scenes to decide if I liked it.

That being said, I did actually like it.  It's not as good as Dorian's, but I'd put it about even with Steve's for me (3rd/4th place overall out of the 8 m/m romances in Bioware games).  He's surprisingly sweet when you complete his romance quest.  I ended up a fan.  (Dorian is totally my 'canon' romance, though)

Also he whips out some serious emotional manipulation if you don't go along with what he wants. I know what you need. It would be disrespecting you to give you what you say you want. It's great if you're into his dynamic from the start, but if you question it, it's like an emotional abuse 101 course.

Okay. Perhaps I will give his romance a chance eventually. I will simply have to roll an Inquisitor who actually *wants* to be the submissive one *all the time.*

I can understand the concern.  I'll say this, though.  It's probably worth it to try it out.  It might not end up being your cup of tea, but it will be nice for a change of pace.  And, besides, if you get to the "katoh" scene (I won't spoil it, just remember that for later) and still don't like it, you can just break up with him and go for Dorian.  My dwarf still flirts shamelessly with Dorian, even after he told me that nothing could happen because I'm with Bull.

I'm sorry guys. :( I just saw about Cullen. Like I think I said before, I had a friend who is close to some devs who told me he was supposed to be bisexual, and I guess she was right. What a bummer. Not sure why they choose to do human and elf lady for Cullen instead of maybe race gating him further and opening him up that way, but I suppose we will never know all the factors that went behind that.

And yeah, that's why I can't romance IB. No disrespect to those who enjoy him, but. Not for me, and I'm sad, because I like his character and I am 1000% okay with BDSm, but the way it plays out just doesn't work for me.

Luckily, Dorian is there for all my male Quizzie's needs. <3 <3

In Bull's defense though, he tells you from the start how it's going to be and that you can back out any time with no hard feelings. So at least he understands that not everyone is into that sort of relationship and gives you an out. He leaves it in your hands what you want to do with the relationship.

My fiance romanced Iron Bull and the first romance scene was bizarre. He asks you what you want to do, but no idea it is BDSM if you get it early. It seems really disingenuous. The worst part about it is the prize of never needing to say your safe word which is one thing that needs to change in the BDSM community as a whole. The pressure community wise not to say it is unhealthy and I think Bull could have been a great romance if the tying down bit was explicit beforehand and they never comment in banter and especially not the ending dialogue as not saying it.

That was one pretty creepy.

That's not leaving it in their hands, he's actively trying to manipulate you to go along with what he wants by saying that he knows what's best for you better than you do. It would be leaving it their hands if when the Inquisitor brought up changing the dynamic, he said, "No thanks. This is what I'm into and if that doesn't work for you, I understand."

Could you explain this a bit more? I'm not really in the BDSM lifestyle so I'm curious.

I counted during the first scene.  There is four chances for the player to back out.  He gets into the power dynamic; it's strictly in the bedroom.

I sum up the relationship with the Bull with the following screenshots:

And pretty much every scene until you cement the relationship with the necklace. I think there's a total of three separate scenes, each with multiple chances to end the relationship. One of them is even the safeword.

I actually called my husband in to watch the "kiss him" cinematic (where he smacks the Inquisitor on the ass and he turns around and gives him a playful shove, shakes his head, and then grabs his (Bull's) face to kiss him, then turns around and rubs his ass as Bull walks away with a smile).  My husband doesn't like video games, but he totally found that scene cute.  Bull's not for everyone, but if you can accept the relationship for what it is, it's endearing and enjoyable.

I watched the video of it on YT and thought there were some super cute moments in it, which is another reason I wish it worked for me.

I had chosen to black that out from my memory.  But you are totally right.  You did say that Cullen was supposed to be bisexual and then wasn't.  ARGH!

I think it's worth it.  Graeme and Bull are super cute together.  I recommend Bull and Cadash.  There's something about the size difference that makes it better for me.
