I'm just going to be salty that Kaidan counts but Steve doesn't. *crosses arms petulantly*
Also, I tend to like many types of men on many different days. So that picture could work, or a more Alistair picture could work. But really though, if DA4 is in tevinter, I'm voting on Ser Barris as our Templar escort... I mean companion. And hopefully Felix for a mage! (I may have a small crush on... OMG fanfic time)

I wasn't trying to overlook Steve.  He does count as well, and someone like him would be great as a full-fledged companion.   Sorry about that.   :(

I need to do the Templar side soon, but I've been pacing my DA:I playthroughs.  I'll have to see if the game has Ser Barris live regardless of side.  It's tricky to add in a character as a companion that could be dead in someone else's game.  I went mage-side and I never really saw him except as the lone voice of reason among the templras in Val R.  That's the only time I saw him, to my recollection.  Still, I'm willing to meet the guy and decide for myself.  He is very cute, I must admit.   ;)

Felix is complicated.  If you haven't done the mage side storyline yet, you need to do so.  The story is good and it gives more insight to Dorian, Felix and his father.  If you haven't done the mage-side story yet, don't read the spoiler tags.  Unless you don't mind learning about this.  I would highly recommend you do the story for yourself.

I don't think either Steve or Kaidan counts. Kaiden is the ME equivalent of a Mage while Steve is a pilot. An ME KISA in my opinion would have to be a soldier. Like imagine if Jacob were gay/bi (and didn't dump you... because a true KISA would never dump his beloved :P)

I did the mages on my first play through, and while I liked Dorian, I was absolutely smitten with Felix. I've gone so far as to kind ponder what the story would have been like if Felix and Dorian were combined into the same storyline with Felix being the companion.
And as far as I know, they don't mention the fate of Ser Barris if you side with the mages, just like you never hear of calpernia.

Wow I thought this thread was a pretty safe space, but I guess I was wrong.

It's okay, Blackwall's beard. I will protect you. You are so important to this world.

Kaidan and Steve are definitely both soldiers, and Kaidan has proven it time and time again over the course of the series. I'm not sure why they wouldn't count, no matter what their "equivalent" might be.

Add to the fact that the Kodiak is Steve's noble steed and there you go.

I just don't like it's attitude. If it and Dorian's outfit could calm down, I'd be just fine. Lol

I don't know, I just can't agree; I mean, EVERYONE is a soldier in ME, technically. Maybe I am too influenced by that guy who drew Kaidan as a mage <3 But like Thane or Garrus don't count in my opinion as straight KISAs because they are snipers/ninja/assassins.

A KISA is a knight... a warrior... he makes you swoon... he lifts you up onto his steed, holding you in one arm... it's supposed to be an impossible ideal  In Dragon Age I think only Alistair, Sebastian, Blackwall, and Cullen qualify. And Alistair is so goofy and incompetent he almost fails the test :P

I have seen a lot of threads like this one. I'm giving my personal point of view, will ya?

The main problem lies within the players : everybody want his own experience, want characters that match his own desire and want to travel with guys he is feeling great with them. But we are in a video-game and they are limited slots of compagnons.

It remembered me of an J-RPG : Dragon Quest : Sky's Sentinels. At the beginning of the game you CREATE your whole crew that you will have by your side until the end of the story. So, why don't try that at HD game?

At the encounter of a new party member, you will have the possibility to select the race, the gender and the straight/******/bi way. And even make the whole face, after all, why stop here! With this method, the trilogy stuff will be hellish to made so it is better limited at one game.

Okay, it need atrocious amount of voice-acting and a lot of possibilities of choices of mood at the creation means a lot of work to implement that in the final game...

Only for next gen and PC I believe... But what a fun thing it will be to travel with our own and personal team!

gasp, Dorian's outfit too????

Wow its time for you to accept the NPC's hair and accessories in the game don't revolve around you, and their attitudes are a reflection of their very material desires and needs... They aren't there to coddle the player. Geez. :P

Dorian's Skyhold outfit is an affront to my eyes

In all seriousness though I like how it hints at Rome/Greek ... the toga-look. Cause isn't Tevinter supposed to be kind of Latin-y?

I have 0 problems with it, but I also genuinely, not ironically, love PLAIDWEAVE, so my tastes are probably not to be trusted.

But but... I'm privileged! And bioware needs to pander to me because I'm shoving my agenda down their throat and blasting them in the face with it! My needs must be catered to!

To Steve's credit, he was a fighter pilot and led a squadron. He was even being groomed to lead a rather large force. So he's basically space calvary because the only reason he's on the Normandy was he was retro fitting the armory at the time of the attack.

I completely get your viewpoint.  For me, having a gay KISA like this liberates me from years of frustration waiting for my Prince Charming/Lancelot. It would allow me a vision of a very different past - 'gay was okay' long, long ago, before even Disney started getting cynical about depictions of true love.

To Steve's credit, he was a fighter pilot and led a squadron. He was even being groomed to lead a rather large force.

Others envision a better future, and might see Prince Charming as a trope - a reminder of past exclusions of all things not straight and white. Then throw in the fact that some people loathe the idea of being carried or rescued. :D So I completely get this viewpoint too. It focuses on the character and their deeds much more than the imagery.

And the older I get, the more flexible I become with imagery. But I most definitely remember lying in bed, imagining a gay version of a true Fairy Tale romance. So that's something I'd be totally fine with in a gay KISA.

I'm admittedly too much of a "strong independent black mage who don't need no mana" for a true snow white/sleeping beauty tale. Prince Charming was never really my thing, I like the more soldier type than the princely guys. Like Captain America vs Prince Eric.

Well, I just met Ser Barris for the first time (my third playthrough and I'm finally doing the templar quest).  Good lord.  He's a hottie, huh?

I tend to think that the male KISA's in DA are Alistair, Sebastian, Cullen, and Blackwall.  I know that some dismiss Sebastian because he's a rogue, but he's a combat focused rogue.  Everything else fits him like a glove.  If DA 2 allowed warriors to be ranged, he'd probably be a warrior.  The 'rogue' status is a gameplay (not story) restriction.  I've had a bit of a change of heart about the class thing.  If the person is a combat focused character, I tend to think that they still count.  That's what I think of for a KISA.  A person who can handle their own on the battlefield.  Sebastian counts for me, but I can see why people would dismiss him.

For ME, I think that Kaidan definitely counts.  Steve?  Not so much.  He's a support character and there's really nothing in his story-arc that lends to him being a KISA.  There's very little of the "I'll protect you" swagger that a KISA has.  His story is more about Shep helping him get over his husband.  It's classic Carth Syndrome and, while a sufferer of Carth Syndrome could still be a KISA, I just don't see it with Steve.

I'm not sure about the ladies.  I'd say that Cassandra and Aveline are both KISAs in DA.  In ME, it's a little tough for me to figure it out.  Maybe Ashley?  Probably Samara?  I'd say that those might be it though.

I was going to edit my post, but I don't mind being chatty. So for DA KISAs it would go something like:

Valor>Justice>Barris>Cullen>Alistair>Sebastian
And
Aveline>Cassandra>Lysette>Cauthrian>

I count Steve because like I said, he was support by circumstance, and there was talk about how whenever Shepard steps into the Kodiak, he'll do everything he can to protect him. So Yea, it's a bit of a stretch, but meh...it's my headcanon. Lol.

Very little screen time, yes. But something about her completely drew me in.  Thank you so much for mentioning her!

Yeah, Cauthrien's a good one.  I forgot her too.  I wish we knew more about her.  I feel like I don't see enough of her to make a proper judgment on her KISA qualifications!

Headcanon away!  I support you.  I can see the argument for it.  In fact, I could probably come up with an argument for OR against any of the people that we talked about (except for Aveline.  Girl was straight up KISA to the max!).

Edit: I'm moving Cauthrian above Lysette because at least she had motive and character. That and her fight was hard!
