Noble (adj), not A Noble (nobility; upper class citizen)

Ahh.

This is not something I'll personally support, as more often than not, warriors rank at the bottom of the list of characters that I like. But I won't begrudge you your desires.

Yeah, I'm imagining that it will be about 2017-2018 when that one shows up.  But the DA team would need to be working on the story development (including characters) towards the earlier end of it, right?

Well, it really depends on their own discretion. Apparently DAI ideas were being discussed before and during DA2, so we will probably never honestly know when they really began working on DA4 stuff. It could be that they have a bunch of stuff in the works right now that they had opted to not put in DAI and to save for a later date.

Yeah, companions seem to be nailed down very early in the process. Makes sense since ideally they would be well integrated into the plot.

Just to chime in with the date of the next game - remember with DA:I there was a pretty major change to a new game engine which i imagine is fairly huge. Assuming the next game will still be on the same game engine quite possible that there won't be as much of a gap as between DA2 and DA:I. Or at least I hope so :)

p.s. Damn you insomnia

Wouldn't that just end up with you being the affair after he marries his queen?

I want a character who is a cool knight, someone who has an awesome personality, who just happens to be gay.

I'm pretty sure my King Warden and Zev made it work :P Plus, no big fall out when she falls for Lancelot - nice friendly political marriage and both have lovers on the siide. Win win!

Not what I meant lol. I want a Knight of the Round Table boyfriend, minus their drama. It's the archetype that I am more interested in.

Ah. Now that I can get. I was wondering what was desirable about the whole king drama nonsense. XD

I really want a villainous male (that's competent, intelligent, charming and sadistic, driven and yes evil but not stupid evil). Hopefully in DAI we can both get our wishes XD (plus I want actual bad boys not I'm a misunderstood woobie we usually get).

All human warriors are straight - Cassandra, Cullen, Blackwall, Aveline and Alistair - and they also all occupy influential positions in respectable society. The other heterosexual companions either have respectable backgrounds - Sebastian, Wynne and Oghren (married to a Paragon, remember) - or they don't operate within traditional defined boundaries of society in Thedas - Morrigan and Solas. Which may seem unusual at first, but which also means that Morrigan and Solas are examples of heterosexual companions who may not be respectable but who are also not strictly speaking working class, since...

Every LI who has a working class background is homosexual or bisexual - Sera, Iron Bull, Isabela, Zevran and Leliana.

Further, all LIs who rebelled against their backgrounds are non-heterosexual - Dorian,  (arguably) Merril, Fenris and Anders (a mage fleeing the Circle when you first meet him).

Solas might be an exception here, but we don't know much about him (he could be a working class city elf who rejected his roots).  Josephine also does not seem to fit the pattern, but we know next to nothing about her personal history.  I've not mentioned other characters because either their sexuality is unclear or we don't know enough about them yet.

And I'm just observing the (currently known) facts: the patterns I outline may be purely coincidental. At worst, there may be among the writers some sub-conscious adherence to certain pre-conceptions regarding sexual preferences. I suspect a mix of both. I certainly don't think there is any ill intent, and I think BioWare does an exceptional job for the most part when it comes to representation of different sexualities.

This. So, so much of this. If they can also be Venger from the old D&D cartoon that's a plus but i (reluctantly) accept that he would make zero sense.

Yep.

And please no love equals redemption. I want him to stay evil. So he can be the poisonous boyfriend to my good characters and the dragon to my evil ones :D

So, this is something that I've seen tossed around in many a romance related thread. I figured I'd make a thread for it so that people who would like to see a gay knight in shining armor could consolidate their thoughts.

Regarding the archetypes of the LI's we've had up to this point, the gay knight in shining armor is one that has yet to be explored. The idea of a strong, virtuous, noble human warrior with strong morals has only been made available for opposite sex romance. (Alistair, Cullen, Blackwall, and Cassandra).  They tend to have a 'cute' and somewhat awkward quality about them concerning romance and the PC is implied to be one of (if not their only) romantic partners. It tends to make them seem more "innocent."

Although Aveline isn't a LI, she is also an example of a straight character who fits the knight in shining armor archetype.

Meanwhile, characters available for same sex romance tend to be roguish characters who have a dark streak and/or questionable morals, and tend to be promiscuous. They tend to have a "bad boy/girl" or "edgy" quality to them. (Leliana, Zevran, Isabela, Anders, Fenris, Iron Bull, Sera). Note that this is not necessarily a bad thing, as grayness tends to make for interesting characters.

I would just like for things to be switched up from time to time.

So this is a thread asking for a strong, morally noble (not necessarily of noble status, but that would be good too) gay warrior. (Male and female would be great.)

Note:  Although  we know very little about the DA:I companions at this point, and it may be a bit premature to categorize them in such a way, I am making this thread now because it is a good time for suggestions to be made, since presumably the next DA game is in an early enough stage where new ideas can be put forward and possibly implemented.

I am not complaining here. I am happy with the fact that I have two guys to romance (Dorian and Bull) but I would like to see the archetypes of the LIs change up a bit in the next game.

i think Dorian will be the answer to this, but we don't really know his personality yet, but he seems to be a good guy, he might be a gay knight in shining armor (even though he is a mage not a warrior XD )

Gay knight in shining armor, Bi Evil Boyfriend then? :P So we can share.  <3

The jealousy banter between evil boyfriend and the knight would be amusing XD and hopefully they'll both have good endings none of this dramatic love ending or dumping you because of plot reasons (or at least have it be moderately avoidable D: )

10/10 OP, this is something I would like to see, as well. Julien and Nicolas from the books are good examples, and even though her character was, uh.. a bit tumultuous, I had the hugest crush on Aribeth from NWN. She wasn't always good, but when she was, she fit the Knight in Shining Armor trope to a tee.

And OT but someone earlier mentioned Bishop - *fans self* Lawd, what I wouldn't give to have an evil, ruthless, self-serving jackass male LI. The closest we got was Morrigan, and she got soft on you at the end! :P

See?  I've never played NWN2, so I just went and read up on Bishop to see what the big deal was and ended up falling for Casavir (different developers; same straight knight thing.....) based solely on the description I read.

I'm such a sucker for this trope.

Oh, I love the idea of Casavir. A handsome older man, a noble knight who ultimately chose what was Good over what was Lawful... it's his implementation that was disappointing. But NWN2 suffered from a lot of that.

That's why I <3 Mask of the Betrayer so very much. But I'm still bitter that Safiya and Gann are "straight" due to Executive Meddling™ even though the devs saw them as bi. :(

I remember Baldur's Gate fairly well, NWN i played but never completed (no longer remember why but probably computer at the time not up to the job) and NVN2 i missed completely. Now feel i should correct that - if nothing else will give me something to do till launch date :)

Kaidan is like the closest thing we've gotten to this so far, but I don't really count Kaidan since he was not made an option until the last game.

It'd be nice to get to play though, so I hope devs are reading this thread.

100% agree, Kaiden is the closest we've come (as well as being generally dreamy). I hate not having a LI in game so come ME3 I had to have my male Sheps dumping Tali, Jack and Miranda respectively. I felt bad about it too. But really Kaiden was pretty much irresistible.

I say this every time this topic comes up, but I'll never forgive Alistair for trolling me with his lampost licking conversation.

Although I personally would prefer someone a lot more femme gay guy, with softer/androgynous features that what we've had recently. Fenris was close to what I'm talking about, but he was still pretty masculine in the end in terms of (1) his face and (2) his awesome, sexy, sexy, sexy voice. But that's just my type.
