What do you mean?

At any rate, now I'm trying to picture how he walks up to the war table. I can't recall right now.

If I recall correctly, it's the same swagger that he uses when he walks off in your first cinematic conversation with him in Haven.  The one after you have your first flirt and he glances at you as he swaggers away and says, "As I was saying....." (or something like that).  It's cute and it makes so much more sense now knowing that he was intended to be bisexual.  I couldn't, for the life of me, figure out why he'd flirt with my Inquisitor like that right after he (Inquisitor) flirted with him if he (Cullen) weren't interested.

There's a little bit of a sashay, with his hand resting on his sword.

I've never flirted with Cullen.  I figured, what's the point?  Now I will have to just to see this. It only happens at Haven, I assume?

Yeah. I did it once with mystraight brother in the room, after I told him about this thread and the revelation of Cullen's near bisexuality. Hr looks at me and goes..."Are you sure they took it out?"

It's actually really cute.  The first time I did it, I had a little pang of disappointment that he was straight because it was cute enough to woo me away from my intended Dorian romance for sure.  Now I do it with all of my male characters because I think it's cute and it adds a little to his character to flirt a little with a male PC when he's (Cullen) straight.

ETA:  Here's the clip, sandal:  It's at about 1:27.

It's not overt, but it's definitely there.  I think it's a remnant of the intended m/m romance.  Similar to how he's very open and vulnerable with a male PC in the lyrium quests, which seems odd given that he's your military commander and you are his boss.  If there was a chance for romance, it would make a little more sense.  Not that I'm complaining.  It's just interesting to see a few hints to what might have been in the remaining dialogue.  Again, nothing overt, but I definitely wondered about it when I did my first playthrough prior to knowing that he was intended as bisexual.  It was enough to make my gaydar ping just a touch.

A pity.

It's looking more and more like they actually did take it out, and not that they 'planned him to be straight from the start and wanted to have straight story archs as well' or 'couldn't make his bisexuality work.'

Oh well. In the end, I hope it was due to not having time for the cinematics.  I guess we'll never know for sure.

When he turned you down, did he say, "all I can offer is friendship at the moment", or did the line end at friendship? Because that could lead to some implications... Lol

"That's.....I would value your friendship, but I could not offer more."

Not that I've had it burned into my brain as a reminder of what might have been or anything........ ;)

Actually, I *think* he does that regardless. I never flirt with him, but now that I see this, that little look and body language at the "as I was saying" part happened with me as well without the flirt.  I'm pretty sure.

The whole clearing of his throat thing right after the flit (which isn't even a flirt. Maybe the smile that the Inquisitor flashes, but definitely not what he says), showing that he is slightly flustered was nice though.

That make sense.  I'm not surprised that he does that either way.  Actually, I'm pretty sure you are right.  My lady dwarf didn't flirt with him and he did it with her too.

I think that the flirt directly prior to it changes the context a bit, though.  And I love every second of it.

I make it a point to flirt with him and Vivienne just so they can turn me down. I may be a glutton for punishment...

At least he rejects at haven...Damn Cassandra and her smutty literature scene. I went into this game blind and got all the way to skyhold before she rejected me. My dreams of a female KISA were dashed on the battlements.

I was just so "Wait whaaaat?" after that moment. I knew he wasn't a romance but he looked very flirty.

Me neither to be honest. Also I can never bring myself to flirt with him because of that horrible smile the inquisitor tries to flash.

To be honest: I've longed for a gay/bisexual KISA in a Bioware Game for so long that I think this is what it's all about:

Longing for something because you cannot have it.

I think if they really added a gay/bi KISA I'd find him far less interesting that I'd imagine him to be now.

Would I really choose a gay/bi Alistair or Sebastian or Cullen over Anders, Fenris, Dorian, Kaidan?

I doubt that. Bioware has given us many interesting bisexual/gay companions so far.

I do not disapprove of this idea however. It would be nice to see one gay/bi KISA for once and then

see if I would be really excited or if I just wanted him because I couldn't have him.

I think it's a bit of both. Even if those characters were romancable by men, Dorian and Kaidan would still be my top two, and Sebastian couldn't get me if he was the last man alive, but Alistair and Cullen would both easily beat out Zevran, Fenris, Steve, and Bull for me. Probably even Anders, although I do genuinely enjoy him as a love interest unlike the others.

Anyway, it would be nice to have the option. Even if I would end up choosing Dorian over Cullen nine times out of ten, I would appreciate Dragon Age offering a queer character who isn't an inherent outcast, which isn't exactly the same as the KISA dichotomy, but it does bother me that if you put DA's queer characters all in the same area, it looks like the island of misfit toys with the exception of Josephine.

It's the smirk combined with the look in his eyes. They're playful, but not in the friendly sort of way.

I dunno, it's just a feeling?

*busts into song*
"MORE THAN A FEELING!!"
But truly, there are smirks and there are smoldering grins. Cullen was closer to the latter.

Well, Jacob has biotics too. His biotics are awful, but they technically exist. (Personally, I think the devs hated him too. Who thought Pull/Incendiary Ammo/Barrier was a good skill set?) So, one could consider him a "mage" as well, depending on how they compare ME classes to DA classes.

But then again, I'm more interested in the personality/motivation/social standing of a KISA. I don't really care about whether they use a sword or not.

Not to hijack this awesome gay KISA thread, but Jacob's biotics go very well with Miranda's. Pull, Warp. Pull, Warp. Pull, Warp. It's like watching a lava lamp.

For the overall purpose of this thread, if Dorian with his looks and character was a warrior (or even rogue), would you consider him a potential KISA? In other words, can you be flamboyant and camp and still be a KISA? (I say yes, it's about nobility and sacrifice rather than "masculinity", but I understand why you might want a gay KISA who's not very obvious.)

I think you could create a camp and flamboyant KISA. As long as he maintained the righteous, noble, protective, do-gooder aspects. That being said, I don't see Dorian as a KISA. He's a little too much of a rule-breaker and rebel. And he's got a bit of a mean streak at times.

Don't get me wrong, I love Dorian, but he's not a KISA.

Honestly, I want for a masculine KISA just once for breaking the stereotype. All the KISA have been pretty stereotypical straight. A character who happens to be gay but with characteristics like Kaidan or Alistair. Who actually prefer guys instead of girls would be a nice change of pace.

The funny thing is I remember lots of straight guys saying they thought Alistair was gay back when Origins came out. Which is sort of confirming that you can still be a KISA while not being full on macho guy.

That said, I agree with you. I'd like the KISA to not be flamboyant and camp just because we're due for a change and a break with stereotype.

I once got into an argument with a guy who insisted that Alistair was the bisexual male romance in DAO and Zevran must be straight, on the grounds that Alistair had flirted with his male character. (I explained that he was mistaken, and told him that I had played the game eight times and would know. It then turned into an argument about who knew more about Dragon Age: obsessive fangirl who played it nine times and romanced everyone, or some guy who played it once but was clearly more knowledgeable about games because he had a penis.)

Personally, I blame the lamp post conversation.

My favorite Alistair moment.  And that's saying something because I actually like that guy.
