Morrigan's straight and she seems to enjoy sex and flirts with the Male Warden. Sera's homosexual and she definitely enjoys having sex with the Inquisitor. In fact, she makes that abundantly clear to everyone at the endgame party.  :P

I don't think the highly "highly flirty & enjoys sex" personality type is exclusive to bisexual characters but yes they do seem to get that a lot.

Eh, there's a difference in my opinion. Morrigan and Sera are assertive about being attracted to the Inquisitor and wanting to get in the sack, but Zevran/Isabela/Bull are vocal about doing the same thing with multiple other characters both seen and unseen. I don't remember Morrigan and Sera doing that.

Oh that does makes sense then. That said though, we've had eight bisexual romances in the Dragon Age series but only three of them act like nymphomaniacs. Leliana, Merrill, Fenris, Anders and Josephine on the other hand are much less promiscuous about their sexuality.

And I don't have anything promiscuity necessarily. Unless I'm possibly getting involved with someone, I generally don't think it's my business. As love interests, I'm indifferent about Zevran, love Isabela, and dislike Iron Bull, but it's just not a trait I find attractive and the repetitive nature of it with bisexual characters leaves a bad taste in my mouth since that's already a incredibly common and destructive stereotype about bisexuals (and to a lesser extent other queer people).

Oh I completely understand this, I'm dating a bisexual guy,  no threesomes were ever offered.

Technically we only have had seven bisexual romances. The Iron Bull is pansexual.

But yeah, Zevran and Isabela are the only ones who are actively promiscuous. Leliana was in her past but has stopped. Anders has had a few lovers if he is to be believed, and one for certain. Fenris' only sexual experience that we know of was being raped by Danarius and possibly sleeping with Isabela. And Merrill and Josephine have never been with anyone. So it is actually pretty equal in terms of a spectrum.

Yeah, I give them credit for not making every bisexual promiscuous (and if we include Mass Effect, both Liara and Kaidan are great representation too), but even if not all bisexuals characters are promiscuous, making all promiscuous characters bisexual is still perpetuating stereotypes.

Basically I just want the next member of their club to be straight and I'll stop my bitching.

I'd say the only big recurring trope I see with women in every Bioware games is that their is always one dark-haired snarky chicks with attitude like Bastila/Ashley/Morrigan/Miranda/Jack/Isabela/Cassandra/Vivienne and their is always one nice and calm girl like Mission/Liara/Leliana/Tali/Merrill.

Dont forget the blonde pretty boy trope alister/anders/cullen

Since you mentioned Mass Effect, does Jack count as a promiscuous heterosexual?

Maybe next game if we get a Orlesian chevalier compaion (which I hope we get) they can fit this trope.

Please no. I really don't want a Chevalier anywhere near my party.

Definitely, but I'm specifically talking about DA regarding the promiscuous bi(pan)sexual trope. I only brought up Kaidan and Liara to illustrate that I don't think Bioware is specifically out to disparage bisexuals. I just hope that they notice they've got two recurring traits in tandem and it's getting to the verge of being a problem.

Always annoyed me how some people dismissed characters like Merrill & Fenris as being playersexual just because they didn't act the stereotypical bisexual way, was always fun hearing peoples arguments on why Isabela was believable but a virginal character like Merrill wasn't

I figured you were mainly talking about DA only, which is why I didn't bring up Jack until I saw Mass Effect talked about so was unsure. Glad I was right.

I think they have. For example as I pointed out in the last two DA games while one bi/pan LI was promiscuous, there was also another as the virgin option of the game. So they recognize it enough that they at least have the polar opposite side of the spectrum represented as well. DA2 did a better job spreading it out even more but then it does have twice the bisexual characters as DAO and DAI does.

Or the comments that Merrill looked like a little girl because she had (what appeared to be) a small [US] size B cup.   "She looks like a little girl, she's not really bi."

While I do think that she comes off more as demisexual than anything else, I never felt that Merrill looked like a kid due to breat cup size.  Hell, most women with...larger tracks of land would look flat-chested next to Isabela.

My two cents:

I think it'd be cool to have a bisexual KISA with a preference for men (like how Leliana preferred women). Additionally, since most bisexual characters thus far fit into the stereotype of being... "experienced," it'd be interesting if said character was a chaste, "wait for marriage" type. Templar has been done already. Unless Ser Barris makes a return. Or maybe a Chevalier? Or an honorable qunari warrior, like Daelan Red Tiger from the original NWN campaign? Daelan was definitely not what you would expect of a half-orc.

Also, Bioware could spread that drama around a bit more? A dwarf warrior from the Legion of the Dead determined to die an honorable death in repentance for his crimes?

Woohoo, another dwarf fan!  Also, I'm betting that daveliam is going to love this post.  He's been wanting a LoD warrior for quite some time now.  :D

Elves are my favorite, but I like all races...except human.

To make it extra dark, the hero and his dwarf love can make a death pact, so the epilogue ends with the hero joining his LotD KISA on his journey into the Deep Roads :crying: . If the hero does not make a death pact, he ends up all alone in a pool of his own tears.

Then of course if Bioware does the 2 for 2 romance again. The other gay romance option can be a happier one.

Nothing personal, but I draw the line there.  The tragic gay love story has been done quite a bit in media, and to be honest, I'd like a little more of a happy ending.  Kinda like your last scene with your LI in this game.  That wasn't the final-final part of the game, but it indicates that the couple is still together.

That being said, I would welcome it as one of a few outcomes for this (or any) romance.  I wouldn't want it to be the only option, but that seems like a cool choice.

Well, racially, I would be lying if I said I'm not hoping for another human for the next gay character, but I would be ok with a qunari (as long as he's not part of the Qun) or a moderately dwarfy dwarf (meaning in the vein of Varric rather than Oghren). I'm just hoping he's not an elf. If he's Dalish, I might cry.

In other media for sure, but that hasn't really been the trend in Bioware games or video games in general, I think.

I can't even think of that many RP games where I can make meaningful choices that indicate my character is a gay male.

Besides, some people really like drama, and might enjoy such a romance. Some of the more popular romances are the "tragic" ones. I think everyone should have the opportunity to experience both fluffy and tragic romances.

1. Monkeys

2. Sebastian Vael

3. The Dalish (Merrill isn't so bad though)

That's what my Inquisitor would have actually seen in the Fade instead of those spiders.

That's why I said I'm happy for it as a choice.   I would not want that to be the only way the romance ends.  I have no doubt that some folks would enjoy that.  Solas' romance could be considered pretty tragic and he's still popular.  I just wouldn't want that choice forced upon a gay/bisexual KISA.

It would be nice for a change to have the chance of a happy ending for a gay couple.  Dorian was a great start, but I think the DA team could do better.  Their track record hasn't been very stellar.    Heck, just look at the NPC list of gay/lesbian romances:

Marjorline/Leliana: Abusive relationship, taken up to new heights by the end of the Leliana's Song DLC

Branka/Hespith:  Hespith tainted, feverish, after watching her lover turn her House into darkspawn

Anders/Karl: We remember what happened there.

Wade/Harren: Had to be confirmed as a gay couple.  Not to mention that they largely came off to me as a couple where the love died years ago but YMMV.

Anders/Male Hawke could also count, given what Anders does in the game.  I find the "crazy bisexual" trope a tad old, but that's neither here nor there at the moment.

I've noticed that there isn't a lot of gay couples that are alive in Inquisition.  We're usually finding a ring, a body or a letter that we have to take back to the unknowing widow(er).

I have no problem with a tragic romance.   I just would not want that to be the only option for a gay/bisexual KISA archetype LI.  That's all.   :)

I wouldn't be happy with a forced tragic ending. There's enough Bury Your Gays out there to begin with and even DA has been pretty bad about it.
