I'm abit unclear on this... what tools are used for making such a poster? Photoshop? Seems intended for people experienced with such tools and not the average joe? :P

Photoshop primarily for the image work. Likely Illustrator & InDesign for the logos and text layout.

Even if you don't win, it might be a fun exercise just creating a DAI poster... (provided you do have to the tools to create one)

Any reason for excluding a lot of countries from this contest? I'd like to participate but I'm not a resident of any of the countries mentioned in the rules. While I can understand why smaller countries like mine are excluded (Armenia) I can't see a reason to exclude almost whole South America from this contest.

If it's purely for shipping problems, is it prohibited to use personal information of a friend or a relative who's a resident of an eligible country for one's entry (with their confirmation, of course)?

This comes up every time there is a contest, but a lot of the countries have extremely stringent rules and regulations for giveaways. Some they even have to pay for just to be able to hold it. It's real tricky, I think.

I'm not a graphic designer and I don't think I've got a chance to win anything but this sounds like a fun challenge :D

Yeah, different countries have different regulations regarding these things. I am trying to track down someone people can contact if they have questions about the contest...

GIMP - http://www.gimp.org/

GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring.

Inkscape - https://inkscape.org/en/

Inkscape is an open-source vector graphics editor similar to Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, Freehand, or Xara X. What sets Inkscape apart is its use of Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG), an open XML-based W3C standard, as the native format.

Both are an alternative to Photoshop and Illustrator if you don't have them. Good luck =)

Ah, I do have to ask though (I looked in the rules but I don't seem to see anything on it) are we not allowed to add our own images in this?  For instance, we get smoke effects, but if I didn't like those and wanted to make my own would I be allowed to do so?

Aw man. I consider myself an artist but some of y'all are on a whoolllleee 'nother level. xD Good luck! Btw, I reccomend GIMP as an alternative! But the newest version I've never been able to get work with my monoprice tablet. :L Probably no issue with other tablets, though.

I imagine it's done for legal reasons, they know they own the rights to everything they are giving you to work with.

You can get a free 30 day trial of the Adobe CC range which includes the use of the aforementioned programs. Details available here: http://www.adobe.com/

To find the trials, go to Menu > Products > Creative Cloud > See all.

Great alternatives (GIMP and Inkscape) have already been mentioned for those who wish to go the free program route.

If you're looking for fonts to use with your poster, here are some resources:

Font Squirrel - http://www.fontsquirrel.com/

Fontsquirrel provides fonts that are 100% free for commercial use.

Dafont - http://www.dafont.com/

Dafont provides a wide range of fonts, not all of them are free for commercial use, so be sure to look at the license.

Good luck everyone.

Just a heads-up, David Hulegaard is going to find someone to come into this thread to answer your questions. :)

This contest is a good excuse to finally do something productive! I've spent the last few months staring at the screen like zombie and thinking about DA:I all the time.

Now I'll continue to stare at the screen all the time, but in the end I'll do something sensible.

I personally use Photoshop because I like the power it gives over colour experimentation. Also is anyone going to post there entries here?

Also if anyone from Bioware comes in here to answer can I put up edited assets for others in this thread to use or would that be against the collaboration rules? I ask because I'll probably make a few concepts and I don't mind giving away parts from ones I'm not using. Also would anyone here be interested in any wallpaper soze images I make with the assets as I will upload them as well.

Yes you can use your own original artwork as long as it doesn't violate any of the other rules.
